John Muir Law's Guide to hiking in the Sierra Nevada is lush with his artistic renditions of all you might see, and want to identify, as you hike this area. Small enough to carry in your back pack, but chock full of helpful information.

This book is amazing. With all the different species of life.
I'm going to keep it in my car. Some times when we're driving; my husband will say "what kind of bird was that" or "what kind of flower".
It's very imformative and very handy.
Thank you

This field guide is perfect for the hiker and camper or general nature lover who lives near the Sierra Mountain range in central California or who intends to vist that region. The authur has drawn almost all of the animal, flowers, insect and bird life to be found in the Western and eastern Sierra mountain range in beautful color by hand. To identify the various life forms you simply look under the various topies and you no doubt will ID that strange bug or plant. You can trust the author and his work is among the best selling of the genre. This is one of the most readable guides to life in the Sierra's and the artwork is first rate. This little guide is perfect for the rucksack crowd in terms of size and weight. This guide has limited written commitary as the artwork is the key to this field guide. This is a well-designed book, making for effortless page-turning and the writer/artist really get into the detail of the creatures shown. You will enjoy your quick hike much more and will have a dramatic change of atmosphere as you reference the life surrounding you in these mountains of great beauty. I recommend this guide highly.

I have just received my sixth copy of Mrs. Fields Best Cookie Book Ever. My daugher found it at the library-very old, yellow, torn. She and her daughters were writing recipes and trying recipes from it and they are delicious. Maybe this is an old cookbook but it keeps up with modern times. Now all my daughters and two granddaughters have it. What a rare find! Most were brand new and bought used and were in perfect condition. Most not even out of wrappers.

I like the fact that there's a variety of different cookies.
I've also made quiet a number of them. All taste pretty good.
Flavor combinations of the cookies surprised me at first but
proven good aroma and pleasing on the palet. My favorite is
the Banana chocolate chip cookies.Except I replace the chocolate chips for white chocolate chips it brings out the flavor of the bananas. The only thing I don't like about this book is that
I wish it had more recipes.

"Cookies" is almost synonymous with "Mrs. Fields" and that's what attracted me to this book. I expected Mrs. Fields' recipe for her famous chocolate chip cookies to be revealed -- unfortunately, it isn't. The recipes are standard cookie recipes, with an emphasis on chocolate chip types. There's even one recipe that calls for the use of all kinds (semisweet, white, bittersweet) in one cookie. What I like are the pictures. The cookies look just like the ones I make at home and that, to me, is reassuring. I also like the straightforward way in which the recipes are presented. They all look simple and easy to do. The book encourages and gives one the confidence to go into the kitchen and bake.

Its an awesome read. I got hooked up to reading AA Attanasio's works the moment I was introduced to "Hunting the ghost dancer". The clarity of description of the world is the best thing I like about this author. Wyvern is an excellent book for anybody who likes adventure. The book takes you through a wonderful journey from the jungle to the wide open seas. If you like dwelving deep into nature, history and geography this is the book for you.
I am sure readers will love every aspect of the book and will remember Wawa, Mala, Matubrembrem, Jalabawan, Batuh, Pym, Riri for a long time!

I've read alotta great books.
I've listened to alotta great music.
I decided quite awhile back that picking "the Best of..." is something that defines to others what one's sense of culture is all aboot. So - in that sense, and of course with the understanding that there really is no such thing:
Best Album Ever: Abbey Road.
Best Novel Ever: Wyvern.
If you can relate to my album choice then that probably has no bearing on whether or not you will admire this fine piece of fiction laced with the incredible metaphysical observations that seem to reinforce my own worldview: adopted from several sources including this book. Ivy league MBA's probably should pass. Oh - one other thing: for some reason I found the first 89 pages or so rather slow going on the first read. They're now perhaps my favorite part. Has anyone mentioned Candide yet?

When I first read Tolkien's trilogy in 1971 I never thought that I would find any adventure that I liked as well until I read Wyvern while on a backpacking trip. I have since reread it twice and find it as facinating as the first read. I can't believe that it is so difficult to find. I cannot recommend this adventure story highly enough.
Exceptional. Unforgettable.

This was the first Attanasio book I ever read, but certainly not the last. However, nothing has ever eclipsed the magnificence of Wyvern. I've never found anything else (by any author) that quite matches this in its sweeping scope. The setting is also wonderfully exotic and refreshingly different from most books in the historical fantasy genre.

Previous reviewers have said it all - "savour every word"... "hats off to Kim Field" etc - but my enthusiam makes me want to throw my hat into the ring. I've been writing about music for newspapers and magazines for 25 years, as a sidelight to my job as a journalist, and I'm in awe of the job Field has done with this book. It's exquisitely written and packed with entertaining information. The 20th century harmonica world was populated by all manner of rascals, hobos, eccentrics and maestros (often all wrapped up in the same person), and Field tells their stories in a clean, organised fashion that captures the magic while never resorting to sentiment or hyperbole. While it's very much a book for harmonica nuts, I've been reading plenty of laugh-out-loud sections to my partner, whose passion is more in the classical piano mold. Over the years I've collected a number of compilations of obscure harp players, but they're not obscure anymore. Having them expertly set in the context of their colourful lives has made the listening immensely more rewarding. Bless you, Kim, for putting in the research in the nick of time, before many of these people were dead and unable to speak for themselves. And bless you for your highly professional yet heartfelt approach.

It is one of those books that you savior every word. It is very inexpensive for such a valuable, meaty, entertaining resource. Mr. Field, thank you for this tremendous read. This material would make a great PBS Ken Burns type documentary.

Simply delighted with both. He has an engaging, captivating way of sharing his inspiring words. I would recommend it to anyone.

I was not really impressed at the beggining, however I decided to listen it as long as I paid some money. It was a briliant idea. The more I listen it, the more I liked. Full of wisdom, full of ideas and suggestions about what you should do in order to "Lead the Field". I have not been a fan of Earl Nighthingale, thinking that he is from the old school of personal motivation and success, but I was completely wrong. The old principles and ideas are valid today and will be sure valid also tommorow.

I've bought virtually every self-improvement/success audio/video out there, (I've spent over 18K on these materials) and of them all, this multi-CD set is the most powerful and moving set I've gotten, of hundreds.
I have to thank Jeffrey Gitomer for bringing Earls' "The Strangest Secret" to my awareness at one of his excellent seminars, where I bought the cd.
Then I discovered these, via the nightingale website. This set of CDs is the most valuable I've ever listened to. Also the extended "Strangest Secret" 5-cd set and Essence of Success are very valuable.
Highly recommended, profoundly moving to me and something I'll be re-listening to for the rest of my life. Get it. Also get all of Brian Tracy's stuff, it's great. And the Napoleon Hill cds.
To your success,
-Ken

Lynette has become a pirate to avenge her younger sister, brutally raped and left to die when she was just 14. Her pirating activities, while not limited to, focused on her enemy with the intent to destroy him financially. Our hero, Daniel, is caught in the crosshairs when Lynette & her crew come across his loaded ship and take his cargo, his ship, and him for ransom.
I enjoyed the book, while not a "keeper", it did help while away some time. If you enjoy a strong heroine and a pirate theme, then I recommend this book...

Amazing! Just the other day, I was discussing with my friends the fact that there are so few good pirate novels. Then I discovered Ms. Fields delightful first novel. It was beautifully written and deliciously naughty. It made me feel like a Girl Scout all over again. It reminds me of the time I traveled cross country with my friend Mr. Bubbles, listening to our tape of Tibetan yak love songs...but I digress. Kudos to Ms. Fields!

What a breath of fresh air; the damsel rescues the knight. Ok, so I'm a little biased because I went to high school with this lovely author. But I'll admit I was skeptical about her writing romance novels since I'd never read any of her writing then. What a fabulous surprise! Her first book reads like some of the best historical fiction. Better still, she keeps Lynnette and Daniel's relationship progressing just fast enough to keep you interested and just slow enough to drive you crazy -- and not want to put the book down. This reviewer ended up staying up till 3am on a worknight just to finish the darned thing. I'm not sure whether to thank her or kill her. In summary, keep 'em coming, Hillary!

THE MAIDEN'S REVENGE is a superb swashbuckling romance. The dialogue is smooth and the plot in this adventure is very creative. The colorful descriptions make you feel as though you are sailing the high seas with Captain Thorne. Readers will enjoy watching the chemistry grow between Daniel and Lynnette. The scheme to hold Daniel for ransom becomes more complicated than Captain Thorne thought it would be.
Ms. Fields' first romance novel is full of passion, action, and sexy encounters. THE MAIDEN'S REVENGE is a lively and entertaining story. Captain Thorne is a character who shows the reader she can be a strong leader, but she can also be very sensual when the moment is right. This story is a page-turner and a definite keeper.

This book is amazing!! It is very educational. I like how it has only the plants and animals that are specific to New England. The pictures are clear and the blurbs about the animals and plants have just the right amount of information in them for learning. I also like how it has other aspects like the night sky, geology, climate, ect. and it is well divided into those categories. I use this book to teach kids about what they find out in nature. It is easy for them to use and quickly find what they are looking at. It is also easy for them to read and understand. Some of them just like perusing through it to see what is around them. Once again, an amazing book for yourself, family, or for educational purposes. I wouldn't travel in New England without it.

Whether you need to know what kind of Oak tree is in your backyard or want to check out the constellations at various seasons - it's in this book! Great (and small enough) to take on hikes to identify animal tracks, flowers and even mushrooms! Although I have a few birding books, I find this one is easiest to use for identification. If you live in NE and want to know what is happening outdoors this book will pique your interest.

It's nice to have the combination of someone so well researched who is simultaneously an excellent practitioner. Lots of great ideas about transplanting (I hadn't heard of soil blocks before). Many great tool recommendations as well. This is worth the time and money!

This book is awesome. Eliot presents an abundance of information. The information is organized and clear. Eliot does not assume what we already know, and what we have at our disposal. For example, many books will tell you how to create a mulch pile. You need this much brown matter, this much green matter, ... . That is all fine and dandy, but where do I magically get all of this material! Eliot understands this and explains many ways we can obtain the mulch material. He also does not assume your knowledge basis. For example, he will explain what and how a lugume works. This book is a constant resource for the organic gardener.

Got me hiped up for my next several years here in Missouri. Practical, simplified systems for both the new and novice organic gardener. Definitely a fun read. Bring your highlighter. Thank you to the author, and all of the great shoulders that he stood on to get to this point...

Mr. Coleman has packed so much information into this wonderful book! I have started to use many of his suggestions. Keeping the costs of growing food down was one of the first subjects that caught my attention.

This is an informative and creative handbook aimed at the occasional to frequent presenter who may be nervous, unpolished, or just looking to improve. Kevin and Cyndi write colorfully, keeping your attention by using stories and short chapters devoted only to a narrow topic, intentionally making it easy to flip to what you need to know right now. The simple fact that they make the best of what could be dry material is enough to convince me that their suggestions have merit.

I had the pleasure to meet Kevin a corporate training day a few week sbefore purchasing the book. I found him to be one of the most relevant, grounded and effective speakers I had ever attended. Once I found he had co-authored this book, I bought it within days.
This book is one of the finer books on public speaking I've ever reviewed. The beauty of it is in it's ability to be used in many ways. For instance, if you just want to hit key chapters relevent to your particular engagement it even offers which ones to read. It also offers a end-to-end approach which I think flows well for those who need a complete point of view in their speaking.
I would take issue with a previous review noting the lack of A\V embesshiments to speaking such as powerpoint... This is a book on building successfull tactics to speaking. It offers key strategies to prepare, connect and flow with your audience.
I have always dreaded speaking myself, not out of phobia, but out of a lack of confidance to think on my feet. This book really identifies why a good presenter has made themselves good and how we can use those same techniques.
I have attended a few "be a better speaker" workshops which focus on a few of the ideas presented here. The difference in this book is in it's completeness and relevence. I will bring it with me to every speach I make from now on.

Maxey and O'Conner's experience with public speaking provides the reader with useful tips and concrete examples without being "gimmicky". Their book is easy to read and allows you to pick and choose what applies to your particular 'speaking' circumstance. The authors give you lots to think about as you prepare your own speeches, presentations, or lectures. As a university professor, I really got a lot out of the book.

The way the book is designed, you can take whatever chapters you need and use it as a resource or reference everytime you speak. Great to read when you don't have much time but need a lot of infomation. It doesn't get any better than this!!!

As time approached for my wife and I to take our first "river cruise" through Austria, Germany, and the Netherlands, I began searching the web for reviews on recommended field guides for birding that part of the globe. Most strongly suggested the Princeton field guide, Birds of Europe, as their first pick. Following suit, I ordered my copy from Amazon and was not in the least bit disappointed. I used the guide daily and the combined field notes, images and species distribution maps allowed me to identify each species with ease and with confidence. This is an excellent field guide which I strongly recommend to folks heading "across the pond" for some serious birding or simply incidental birding as they enjoy their European vacation.

This is just simply a wonderful field guide, and definitely the best bird book for European species. I also own the RSPB guide to British birds which I picked up on the fly in the UK; however, I chose to leave that behind in favor of Mullarney et al. when I relocated to Germany. The descriptions, field marks, and pictures are wonderful. It also has pictures and descriptions of both males, females and juveniles, which my other book didn't have for all species, much to my dismay (at least 1 instance for a sexually dimorphic species). It's also relatively compact making it easier to carry in the field. The ordering of the songbirds is a little different from Sibley, but this is easy to adjust to. This certainly is a must have for all birders that might be traveling to Europe.

I was going to Europe on a trip where I would be doing some birdwatching, and bought this book based on reviews on Amazon. The book turned out to be great! Each bird has a comprehensive description with details on identification and distinguishing it from other birds with a similar appearance or bird call. Each also has an illustration with the birds in multiple poses, M/F, adult/young, and other features such as common surroundings which was very helpful. There's no quick-key by color - birds are arranged by groups rather than color - but I found this to be a minor inconvenience weighed against the wealth of info in this book.
