This book is a wonderful intoduction to different types of cuisine that is avaiable in france. Its real insight to the interesting combinations of food and preparation techniques, not to mention a great cursory intro to the wine regions in France. I would definately recommend this book to the first time novice in French cuisine!

On a recent trip to Paris, my father-in-law brought along the dictionary part of this book. A bit excessive, I had thought. However, we used it in just about every restaurant we visited - French, Moroccan, Vietnamese, you name it. It defines every imaginable food and preparation type. The English to French translation is not quite as complete, but it doesn't diminish the book's value. Well worth the money and the trouble carrying it (at least the dictionary section). I'm buying this one and the Italian one for myself.

Bulimia is a complex syndrome primarily affecting young women. Treating bulimia poses a challenge to the therapist, who must consider how the interactions among sociocultural, individual, and family factors maintain the symptoms.

In this book beginning and experienced professionals will find a sensible and comprehensive approach to understanding and treating bulimia. This approach, based on principles of feminist family systems theory, has been proven successful in a clinical pro-gram devoted to the treatment of eating disorders.

The authors open with a discussion of the complex sociocultural, familial, and individual developmental factors that contribute to the development of bulimia. Family patterns related to eating disorders are traced through the family life-cycle and even through several generations.

Then the authors make a major conceptual contributionâ€"their classification of bulimic families into "perfect," "overprotective," and "chaotic" types. The dynamics and treatment of each family type are illustrated in extensive case studies.

While the focus is on families, the authors recognize that the treatment of bulimia, be-cause of the complexity of the syndrome, must be multidimensional. Their comprehensive treatment program includes thorough assessment (with special attention given to substance abuse and the sexual abuse that many of these women have suffered), consultation (which may open the door to family therapy), individual, couples, and group therapies. The relationship of bulimia to affective disorders and the possible need for medication are also discussed.

Above all, this is a clinical book, packed with intervention strategies and case examples. It will be invaluable to all family therapists and health-care professionals working with bulimic clients.

I feel that this book is excellent for the clinician, the patient, and the patient's family. It provides characteristic of the bulimic individual, their struggles and the family dynamics often envolved with this disease, as well as much more information that aids in treatment and understanding. This author is truely an expert in the area of eating disorders. I only wish that she would write a book on Anorexia Nervousa, not that this book can't be helpful in a variety of eating disorder cases, a book on Anorexia would just better suit my specific needs. I read it a long time ago, and I had to borrow it from someone. This is why I can't be more specific about its content. I just must emphasize that I know that this author is an expert in eating disorders!

Fallon Mates makes for a fast and exciting read. Put aside your preconceived ideas of a Menage-a-Trois. The idea here is in order to save a civilization it requires the DNA code of two compatible males to combine with the ovum of an earth female to conceive the next generation.. if that happens to include some really hot sex scenes between them so be it. After reading the first book in the series, I wanted to continue on with each book as they become available. The stories are well written and has a good storyline that makes this series interesting for your mind as well as stimulating for your libido.

Zeraac d'Amato has lost any hope of finding a mate. He has been tainted by a virus making it impossible to create a child. When he is sent to earth to watch over the friend of his brother's wife, he is stunned by his emotional and physical reaction to her. Ariel is caring for her terminally ill daughter Kaylee. Upon meeting Zeraac, Ariel feels the same
attraction to him.

When Zeraac discovers that Ariel is his bond-mate, his hopes for love are
renewed. But on his planet of Belizar, an Amato must share a bond-mate with a Vesti. Komet d'Vesti agrees to become Zeraac's co-mate.

The two warriors travel to earth in hopes of saving Kaylee's life and convincing Ariel to accept the bonding. But as their relationship is developing, their family is threatened. Ariel, Zeraac and Komet need yet another miracle to keep them together.

Zeraac's Miracle is such a beautiful, passionate story. The desperation Ariel, Zeraac, and Komet feel in their search for love and happiness is heart-wrenching. But the love they find in each other is perfect and touching. This is a truly heartfelt tale full of acceptance, passion, and love. I was captivated by the characters and story line. Zeraac's Miracle is tender, loving, erotic and consuming. Ms. Strong has written a great addition to The Fallen Mates Series!

Ariel Ripa desperately needs a miracle for her daughter, Kaylee. Her marriage had crumbled apart under the strain of Kaylee's illness, though they'd never divorced or separated. Colin, a police officer, had been murdered the previous year. Now, Kaylee has been released from the hospital for the final time, there's nothing more the doctor's can do, Kaylee has come home to die.

Zerrac d'Amato is a Fallon male who has been rendered sterile by the virus unleashed by the Hotalings. He has no hope of a bond-mate or children. His intent is to fulfill his promise to his brother's human bond-mate and then go in search of the Hotalings. He never expected to find both a bond-mate and a daughter while visiting Earth. Zerrac hadn't dared to dream that such a miracle would be possible.

Komet d'Vesti is a Vesti from the Araqiel clan-house. His house's pursuit of pleasure was what allowed the Hotalings virus into Belizair. Even though Komet has never been involved in the family pleasure business, who would want to take a co-mate from a clan-house that had brought so much suffering. Komet had given up hope of ever having a mate and child of his own.

Once Zerrac arrives on Earth, he's distracted from his mission by a child's choking cough and the woman's voice as she talked to her child. Sensing the menace of humans nearby, Zerrac follows the sound of Ariel's voice, saving mother and daughter from the brunt of the attackers' plans. After restraining the attackers, Zerrac turned back to Ariel and Kaylee, only to have Kaylee ask him if he was there to take her to heaven now. Kaylee can see his wings, meaning that she'd have the Fallon marker, so will her mother. Realizing the meaning of this finding for Belizair, Zerrac is caught between his mission for his brother's bond-mate and needing to see to this woman and child. It isn't until, the police arrive and he sees the woman's name on their forms as they fill them out that this woman is the police officer's widow that he'd been sent to check on. Realizing that time is not on Kaylee's side, Zerrac takes a sample of both Ariel and Kaylee's hair to have it checked for the Fallon gene. At the same time Jeqon runs the test for the Fallon gene in Ariel and Kaylee, he also checks to see if Ariel is Zerrac's mate. It's confirmed that not only are Ariel and Kaylee carriers of the Fallon gene, but also Ariel is Zerrac's mate. With Kaylee's time being so very short, Jeqon introduces Komet to Zerrac as a possible Vesti co-mate. Without a co-mate, Zerrac cannot take Ariel and Kaylee to Belizair and begin Kaylee's healing. In order to save Kaylee, Council rules will have to be broken and everybody's happiness put at risk.

FALLON MATES is a series I have loved ever since I first read BINDING KRISTA. ZERAAC'S MIRACLE has further pulled me into the amazing world of Belizair and the characters that inhabit it. I can easily visualize this world of winged men and women resembling bats and angels and the despair that the virus unleashed in their world caused. ZERAAC'S MIRACLE restored hope to not only Zeraac, but also Komet, Ariel, and Kaylee. Each of these people abandoned hope of having any of their dreams coming true until they find one another, even then, they must fight to remain together. Jory Strong's FALLON MATES is a series that I hope will continue for a long time to come. ZERAAC'S MIRACLE is a book you'll want to add to your keeper shelf.

I read this book for the first time back in 1965-1966. I have shared this book with several of my catholic friends who found the book to be exqusided. I have the May 1953 editition. Naturally I had to order the revised edition. Since reading the new edition I find it very, very informative. and I highly recommend it be read by all old and new Catholics. It will answer many if not most of the questions you have about the Catholic Faith. God Bless You!

Fr. Smith's dialogue of truth

Review Date: 2004-10-11
This terrific book has been in print for over 80 years, and after reading it one understands why "Father Smith Instructs Jackson" has sold over 2 million copies. In dialogue form, Fr. Smith guides a curious, intelligent, but somewhat agnostic inquirer to understand the truth of the Catholic faith.

Since it's original printing, it has been revised to incorporate the teachings of the Second Vatican Council. But unlike other similar efforts, the revisions don't feel tacked-on or interrupt the flow of the narrative. Fr. Albert Nevins was able to capture the style and prose of Archbishop Noll's original.

In addition to being a useful catechism, the book is a solid work of apologetics. Regarding the latter, there's an interesting story to how I acquired the book. I bought it on eBay from a seller who included the word "Bible" in his ID. He sent the book promptly and in the condition promised, but he included an anti-Catholic tract that misrepresents what the Church teaches. When I called the seller's attention to his pamphlet, he accused me of worshipping "saints" and a "pedophile pope"--precisely the sort of nonsense "Father Smith Instructs Jackson" so thoroughly debunks.

If you have a Catholic (or would-be Catholic) friend who is turned-off by traditional catechisms, this is the book for him.

I am stationed in Germany and therefore have the opportunity to travel frequently throughout E. Europe. For several years now I have been looking for a travel guide that offers detailed travel info as well as historical and regional information. I finally found it all in Lonely Planet's E. Europe. Although it was an older version (1995) with often outdated prices, it provided an excellent source of maps, key sights, as well as a good, country-by-country historical brief. This book was so good, in fact, that someone in Ljubljana, Slovenia, decided they needed it more than I did, forcing me to buy the latest edition. I'm looking forward to seeing this updated edition.

The Lonely Planet guides are excellent for any locale..but this edition (covering Italy, Spain, Greece, France, Portugal and even Morocco) is a must-read for the quintessential backpacker jumping on a plane for Europa. These guides excel at recommending lodging of many price ranges (from youth hostels to 5-star hotels) and meal choices of the same range (excellent recommendation for outdoor markets.."buy a loaf of bread, a block of cheese and a bottle of wine here"..which is a plus as many guides catering to this area focus on only older travels with large budgets..or persons seeking to spend only a dollar a day or some insanity..it's always good to have the most information possible..and it's included here. Entertainments ideas from free plaza and park visiting to museums, discotechqes, architecture, boat rides etc. etc. are included..good for young and old. It even lists culture-sensitve information such as appropriate dress for visiting churches and monasteries as well as travel-safe tips for women. Book your Eurorail pass and get going.

This trilogy comes from Australia and is apparently only available in e-book to the US. I ordered the first one in print from over seas (which can be done via the author's site - http://www.jenniferfallon.com/DemonChild/main.html). It's an amazing beginning to a unique and well-written story. The world Fallon has created is fascinating and draws in the reader immediately. It's very easy to become attached to the characters also - it may cost me fifty dollars, but I'm ordering the next two installments directly from Australia. I hate e-books, but I have got to knw what happens next!

The Demon Child Trilogy is a really brilliant fantasy series and well worth reading. It is a little bit slow to start, but all series need the introduction. Wonderful characters and an interesting world, Jennifer Fallon is already a favorite author of mine, easily deserving 5 stars. Book 2 in the series, Treason Keep, is even more marvelous, though at this time it hasn't come out in the US. I am looking forward to Book 3. I highly recommend this amazing series, it's very hard to put down!

D'Arcy Fallon-Metaphorical Memoir Shines!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-14
"So Late, So Soon" is a memoir of a young woman struggling with identity questions concerning her own spirituality during a difficult time in America. Her upbringing in a mobile-military family paradoxically seemed to give her an early savvy and fearlessness on the outside, yet it sent her into the haven of a Christian commune to turn her life over to God..the famous, or infamous (depending on how you want to look at it) Lighthouse Ranch, near Loleta, Northern California coast. For over 3 years, Ms. Fallon struggled with her own reasons for being there, her quiet, yet defiant attitude towards the intolerant ones around her, and her confusion concerning her inter-personal relationships within her own family. Her poetic voice is never critical of Lighthouse Ranch, and though she clearly doesn't agree with some of what went on while living there, her valiant efforts to understand her 'here and now' are refreshingly familiar. Her tone is honest, and her stories are sometimes hilarious, sometimes poignant. This book will take you through the entire gamut of what it means to be a real human being, perplexed by questions of faith, the modern world, and false expectations that can leave us empty. D'Arcy Fallon's words will draw you where you need to be once every so often..into your self, teaching you insight. This book is a must-read. We hope she has more of these stories in her.

Excellent memoir -- an enjoyable read!

D'Arcy Fallon is an engaging writer; in the course of 24 hours, both my husband and I read So Late, So Soon - we couldn't put it down! So Late, So Soon captures the reader's attention and imagination from beginning to end. It is rare to find a novelist with the ability to make you laugh and cry at the same time. D'Arcy Fallon has such incredible talent; her readers will delight in her tale as a young, independent woman who falls under the spell of life on a religious commune.

Review Date: 2001-03-20
In this fine introduction to Shakespeare, Prof. Robert Fallon had more sense than to try to "dumb down" Shakespeare. It can't be done--however, you CAN approach Shakespeare simply and cleanly, as the "Dummies" guides absolutely fail to do. The appropriate approach is to present the basics that are required to appreciate Shakespeare's plays, and that is exactly what Fallon has done in an enjoyable, highly readable text with no frills, distracting unfunny cartoons and trivia quizzes. To put my cards on the table, I worked in the recent past in a publishing company where I was not permitted to publish this excellent introductory guide myself, because it did not take a "for dummies" approach. I greatly regretted the stupidity of this decision (ever have a stupid boss?) and I salute Fallon for filling a need on the theater shelves of the bookstores. And bravo to his intelligent publisher Ivan R. Dee for putting out a well-designed volume. So take it from me, a theater lover for ages: This is the guide to choose if you want to begin to feel comfortable with Shakespeare or just want a solid guide to complement your experience of the plays.
