What an excellent book. The EasyStop method helps smokers to stop smoking even when everything else has been tried had has failed. Patches, gum, cold turkey ... these are just the easiest ways to fail for most smokers ! The simple exercises in this book take a smoker through the process of stopping, one step at a time. You do it at your own pace ... no pressure, in control, and you simply stop smoking when you are ready. Then work your way through the excellent advice in the extra section at the end of the book to address any other issues, and make 2008 a great year. If you don't smoke yourself then buy this book for someone you love and who needs to stop smoking now !

This book is powerful beyond measure....the missing link on finally stopping smoking once and for all compared to any of the books out there to date. You will stop smoking for good no if's or butts pardon the bun!) - simply follow it and do the simple exercises Elliott gives you and you'll quit for good.

This guy is terrific with huge experience in this specific area and really, really knows his stuff!

As someone who works in the addiction field myself, working a lot with very high profile CEO's and Celebrities especially in Hollywood as both a Success Coach and `Therapist' and nothing ceases to amaze me the awesome power of our minds and how we can positively re-program ourselves.

Having worked with many, many people over the years on numerous personal areas with them and working with clients removing chronic self-sabotage & limiting believes of achieving our life goals, weight loss solutions to vaporizing severe phobias and fears in just minutes let alone depression etc where all else has failed to reversing pain from physical ailments and so forth and let alone done lots of quit smoking programs for people etc, I've said all this because it takes a lot for me to be impressed - I often research the best of the best out there regularly to keep up with things and frankly, I have never seen anything so brilliant for explaining a simple A to Z about every single element to finally help ANYONE quit smoking permanently wow!

Yes Gosh Buy the book!! (It's only the same cost of a few packets of what your about to give up!) and get the book for your friends and loved ones...read it, do what he says within the pages (simple, and powerful) and yes, YOU will QUIT Smoking...

I feel a best seller coming on!

Founder of the Center for Renewal in Houston, Elliott was able to do over 300 interviews with persons who are leaders in successful civic organizations. Although their ethnic, social, and religious backgrounds vary widely, there is a common thread running though all the diverse activities--namely, improvement of urban life in general or some specific group in particular. And the many individuals Elliott portrays on the basis of her interviews do this with singular and exemplary imagination, commitment, and effectiveness. Elliott goes beyond only praising the individuals by uncovering their motivations and describing their work to also go into the founding of their programs, how the programs are run, their interactions with communities and government at different levels, and the keys to their survival and success. Thus, readers are given not only engaging portrayals of exemplary social activists, but also outlines of their innovative, relevant programs which can serve as models for ones in other urban centers.

In an extra-biblical epistle written in the middle of the second century the author, Mathetes, writing to his friend Diognetus penned these words: "In a word, what the soul is in a body, the Christians are in the world." In Street Saints Barbara Elliott has captured the soul of America's cities by shining the light on scores of people, programs and strategies that God is using to change lives and transform communities. If there was one book to recommend to those who wanted an overview of what God is doing in cities and were looking for inspiration, models and effective practitioners my recommendation would be this wonderful book.

As someone who was too young to experience "Trudeaumania", this book gives me a lot of insight into who Trudeau was and also who were the men and women behind the scenes of those Liberal governments that changed Canada.

As someone who grew up during the Mulroney and Chretien governments, it made me yearn to be a little older so I could experience what happened during that tumultuous times.

Trudeau was an enigma wrapped in a riddle and this book does an amazing job in conveying that story and passion that drove him.

While I, as an American, do not have the intimate knowledge that a Canadian of my age would have of the times, this biography of Trudeau gives me an insight both into the character and career of Pierre Elliot Trudeau and into this era of Canadian political history. Trudeau's fights within and without the Liberal party and against those who changed the Quiet Revolution into the politics of succesion are engrossing and fascinating. Also striking is the way that the Canadian (and European) study of political economy, as opposed to American political science, gives one a greater insight into the times and the economic forces at work in the political sphere. The only reason that I didn't give this five stars is because I don't feel qualified to judge Canadian political scholarship.

Spiritual Healing from Childhood Abuse

Review Date: 2007-08-17
Tracy Elliott's beautiful smile as the winner of the 2006 Mrs. Texas pageant hides a secret past, which she boldly reveals in her new memoir.

Co-authored with Jenna Glatzer, the narrative reads like a novel. Orphaned at age six when her mother died of alcoholism, Tracey grew up in the projects in small-town Georgia, raised by her grandmother.

Also living in the house were several drunken, violent uncles who verbally and sexually abused Tracy, breaking everything in the house except a lone wooden china cabinet, which survived intact, like she did.

Now married and the mother of two sons, Tracy credits her early faith in Jesus for bringing her through years of trauma, which later included living as a stripper and drug addict.

Even after being married to a wonderful man, Tracy struggled with perfectionism as a mom, wanting to give her husband and sons everything she never had.

The author's honest, real faith is captivating to readers, proclaiming the truth that Jesus has the power to heal anyone from a stained past. This is a beautiful book, with a message the world desperately needs to hear: just because you had a bad childhood doesn't mean your life can never be whole again.

Story of Triumph

I received inspiration and comfort from reading Tracy's story. It is told well, and is a story of triumph and healing. The only issue I had was her insulting view of what she called 'metaphysical' or 'new age' spirituality she encountered in her rehabilitation program. I am not saying all 'new age' philosophies are healthy, just as not all 'Christian' churches preach healthy spirituality. But, what I guess is called 'metaphysical' spirituality (for a lack of a better label or term) is what I embrace and follow and what has been profoundly loving, uplifting, empowering, and healing for me. Also, Jesus and metaphysical spirituality are not mutually exclusive. I do not think Jesus is only the domain of contemporary Christians, or those who call themselves Christians, and go to a conventional Christian church. To me this is spiritually insulting and all to often becomes a form of possessiveness, religious greed, and sometimes even spiritual abuse. Jesus belongs to everyone and he is very important in my life. When I was reading some of Ms. Elliott's views of Jesus and the Bible, etc, I felt disconnected from her story and I had to work to remind myself we are both on a spiritual path that is healing to us and I have to honor that her expression of a spiritual path is different than mine. That is ok, as she herself discovered in her in-patient rehabilitation program that was so healing for her. But, despite this obstacle, there is much wisdom, inspiration and insight to be gained from this story. I recommend it.

Review Date: 2001-01-19
Paul Elliott's book is very well-researched and entertaining to read. It doesn't go into a great deal of detail but the author manages to fit quite a bit of information into the seven chapters. The cults covered are the Greek and Roman Mystery cults (one chapter each), the Knights Templar, the Assassins of the Middle East, the Thugs of India, the Ninja clans and the Chinese Boxers. Each chapter stands by itself but there is a fair amount of cross-referencing which helps tie the whole work together. Stylistically, there are a couple of very minor problems such as strange grammar (which may just be a difference between American and British conventions) and the odd use of exclamation points here and there. These shortcomings are easily overlooked, however. If you are interested in history, martial arts or the truth behind certain myths and legends, this book is for you.

Christopher Lloyd was a passionate gardener with much practical experience from running his own extensive gardens at Great Dixter, Sussex. This book with over thirty sections under six main headings covers almost every aspect of gardening in a fresh and questioning manner, often dispelling long held opinions.

In addition the book is illustrated with many of the author's own photographs (1973 edition). It also has a glossary and substantial index.

Christopher Lloyd's writing is outspoken, opinionated, witty, entertaining, authoritative, practical, informative, one could go on, but above all it is a sheer pleasure to read. Without doubt Christopher Lloyd was one of the greatest garden writers, and this book must rank among his best. This offering notwithstanding its age is an absolute gem; with so many shallow gardening books now being published writing such calibre only goes to highlight the dearth of able garden writers today.

Whether or not one enjoys a similar climate to Lloyds South of England garden, the thinking and principles behind his writing can only enlighten and benefit gardeners wherever they be.

Chock full of advice.....

THE WELL-TEMPERED GARDEN is a classic book, filled with all sorts of advice from one of Britain's leading garden experts--Christopher Lloyd. Lloyd is responsible for Great Dixter, one of the premier gardens in England. WELL-TEMPERED GARDEN was first published in 1973, and this version is the new and updated and somewhat expanded version.

Whether or not the inexperienced gardener can use this book is debatable. GARDEN contains tons of information, but the paperback contains no photographs. Unless you are an experienced gardener who can picture the plant varieties Lloyd discusses, I would think GARDEN would prove more confusing than not. I am an experienced gardener and I found many interesting tips.

Lloyd is a plantsman, and he has a good deal to say about many of the plants generally found in gardens in the temporate regions of America as well as England, but his discussion is confined to examples of plants grown at Great Dixter (past and present, failures and successes). I struggled through the text, trying to read it like a 'book', and then decided it made a better reference work. If you're interested so-called 'tricks of the trade' regarding garden staples such as tulips, peonies, pansies, primulas, or climbers, shrubs, and roses, you can find the item of interest in the index, locate it in the text and read about it.

Lloyd shares his accumulated wisdom about a large assortement of plants, providing the sort of information one usually finds only in specialty books on particular plants, not in a general gardening book. For example, he says, "What is an azalea?" He then goes on to discuss azaleas in terms of their botanical classification (they are rhodendrons), notes that there are many kinds of azalea, and suggests that one sort or another may work better depending on what you are attempting to do.

Many of Lloyd's comments are better suited to the gardener in England (lots of stuff on roses). However, he also discusses plants of interest to Americans. For example, his text concerning Buddleias is quite relevant for gardeners in the mid-Atlantic region. Lloyd suggests Buddleias are in the top flight of second-rate shrubs. They grow fast but are sadly sketetal in winter. However, he suggests, they are indispensible. He then goes on to discuss the different kinds of buddleias you might want to grow. I don't think he quite says why they are indispensible, but anyone who knows their colloquial name 'butterfly bush' knows why.

My sense of Lloyd is that he is like an old maiden aunt or bachelor uncle, full of information that could save you a bit of work and heartbreak if only he would 'spill the beans'. For the most part I have little idea why he's sharing what he's sharing (he starts his sentences in the middle), but every other paragraph or so he drops a gem.

More than just a ghost story, this book also deals with topics such as false judgment, overcoming fear, and trusting others. Even though some parts were dark and somewhat scary, i also found it quite humorous at times as i read it to my eight year old. I enjoyed it as much as he did. This book is suitable for all ages, so i highly recommend this one to other parents.

Kalb's books rank the greatest athletes in their sport, and this time he tackles golf. The Nicklaus chapter is priceless, and while I'm still not sure if he should be ranked ahead of Ben Hogan and behind Tiger, I enjoy Kalb's viewpoint. It's hard not to enjoy a book that stirs debates like this one does. You can't believe the pictures that are included in the center of the book. Some are stirring, some are humorous. This book has everyone it should...including great old golfers like Middlecoff, Demaret, and the like. Sam Snead fourth all-time? Ahead of Bobby Jones and Arnold Palmer?

I've bought both of Kalb's previous books and while he's enraged me with some of his opinions, he has also intrigued and entertained me. I think his golf book is his best yet. It's more readerly and isn't as bulky as the other two. I found myself wanting to take in all of the entries. His pick of five female golfers was quite interesting and rounded out the book. Great photos by the way. Some real fun stuff!

[review for hardcover edition]

Doug Elliott is a natural storyteller both on stage and in print, and it shows in this delightful book. The writing comes straight from his experiences and his heart. Many of the stories are anecdotal accounts of his encounters with nature over the years mixed with comments on some of the more interesting human animals he has encountered as well. This is an extremely well-written book that grabs you right away. The illustrations, also by Mr. Elliott, are simply gorgeous and really add to the aesthetics of this fine book.

If you love nature writing and/or folksy storytelling, you will love this book. I will read it again and again. Simply a joy.

ELOQUENT AND HUMOROUS NATURE WRITING

Review Date: 2002-01-04
Eloquent nature writing with a sense of humor, sure to delight any reader of down home country living. Author Doug Elliot's chapters on the natural world are lovingly researched anecdotes on the critters, plants, folklore, and people that compose North America's natural environment. An ex-hippie, Elliot is adept at speaking naturally with a scientific appreciation of the mystery and wonder of nature, whether he's hiking for an elusive mystical Ginseng root, or revealing a prized recipe for Dried Apple Stack Cake. Stories of native American folklore, particularly stories of Coyote The Creator, a hapless though efficient god-like being are delightful fables retold here in amusing moral ending style. Mr. Elliot has also illustrated his companionable book with splendid artwork revealing an artist's eye for the love and fascination of the natural world.
