Excellent description of the complex relationship between these two
famous WWII leaders. Both faced tremendously difficult odds against
Germany in June 1940, when the German armies quickly invaded
Benelux and France, throwing the British divisions back to England.
At a time where the US was only standing by, and France was overwhelmed by
a vastly superior ennemy, Churchill had the courage and vision to support De Gaulle's refusal to surrender and subsequent negation of the (collaborationist) Vichy government. The author also provides an excellent
description of the two men, describing their trials and highly tempestuous relationship, including their enduring -if severely tested- friendship. In the end, it becomes clear that both men indeed truly loved France -and what it stood for, expecting it to fulfill its European role after the war. The book also describes Roosevelt's persistent attempts to undermine De Gaulle while pressuring Churchill to do likewise -- perhaps the origin of the strained rapport betwen France and the US ?

This is one of a four volume set that is indispensible for anyone who is interested in modeling aircraft of the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps, or anyone interested in seeing the finest photographs ever put together of naval aircraft to the date of publication. The author is a career Marine Corps veteran, and made it his formidable task to organize mounds of data regarding the subject for future generations. Included are the standards for painting and marking naval aircraft into the 1990's and his interpretation for how well they were or were not carried out. The photographs were carefully chosen to illustrate the text and are of superior quality in their reproduction. There are also many beautiful color illustrations painted for these volumes that often have humorous aspects in them that only enhance one's overal enjoyment of the book. You will find all types of naval aircraft here from fighters to floatplanes, transports and lighter than air craft. To top it all off, there are paint chips in the back of each volume that were produced with the greatest of care from original examples. This particular volume is interesting because of its coverage of the period of the transition from reciprocating engines to jets. I visited the Silver Hill Md. Restoration Facility of the Smithsonian Institution during the time this series was being released, and the publication of each volume was advertised on the bulletin board. There can be no higher praise than that! This series deserves to be reprinted.

This book is full of great recipes. I have used at least 30 of the recipes and their variations. One of the best things about this book is that is almost always gives you additional ways to make the recipe. For example, if you've made the plum torte, but want to try it with apples, you can, because they give directions for using apples at the end of the recipe. I found this to be extremely useful.

Katherine has put together an excellent org com textbook: well-written, concise and very well organized. From Time-Motion Studies to Maslow to Theory Y, Ms. Miller gets down to the point, uses tremendous examples and gives excellent bibloigraphic information for further study.
I took Org. Com. as the first communication class I ever had, and although it was a 400-level course, Kathy's book helped make it not only a pleasure and a joy, but the defining class in my determination to pursue an MA in Communication in the Fall of 2002.

Elliott and Minor have given us Anton Chekhov as many of us know him and love him. As usual there is nothing romanticized. Everything is written in a style that is sparse and cool. Chekhov stays true to his refusal to give more than the mildest pity to his characters, many of whom are ignorant and foolish but still have a certain dignity, a certain humanity that deserves more than what happens to them in the course of their meager, often petty lives. As he said in a letter to a friend written in 1892: "When you portray miserable wretches and unlucky people and want to stir the reader to compassion, try to be cooler."
Not all the stories in The Other Chekhov are equally brilliant, but each has something insightful to say about this human dilemma called living. Each story also has something to teach, especially if you're a writer, especially if you want to read a genius who is nearly always a poet in prose. Of his work Eudora Welty said that when she read Chekhov it was like angels singing to her. That's what this captivating selection does--it sings.

This was the first archaeological study in downtown Phenix City, Alabama. This work was done prior to the construction of the Amphitheatre on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The findings include a wonderful discussion of a woman named Frances Waccisser, who endured a series of husbands and made quite a success of herself. The City of Phenix City panned the report because of its title. The title was MY idea!!!

I have been working with this product for several months now. I sleep better than I have in over two years. I even wake up feeling better. But the real miracle is my performance on the table. It gives you triggers that put you in a focused state right NOW! It's nice to finally be able to concentrate and do what I'm capable of doing whether I'm practicing or performing. I'm a different player now. It's obvious. You can't even believe how different you'll feel -- more confident and capable. If you're like me and have been struggling with the mental stuff for years, spend the money and get this program. It's worth every penny!

The engaging photos in this book are irresistible thanks to Elliott's strong narrative voice; she will lure browsers to their nearest armchairs and turn them into time machines. Elliott will entice, by the merest suggestion in a caption, even the least romantic peruser of this book into a thousand daydreams. Some will awake and go on with their lives, but others will be more securely hooked; they will be prompted to find out more about something only glimpsed, to visit a library, to visit Oxford, to read a novel, or write one. This book is as much a gift to the creative spirit as to the history buff. Those interested in Victoriana and particularly in recreating rooms with some authenticity will find the college interiors circa 1900 themselves worth the price of the book. Among these rare perspectives are the dorm room with its curtained, pillowed alcove and its rocking chairs and the reading room with its tablecloths each anchored by an attractive potted plant. The book concludes with a tantalizing look at ten "notable residents of Oxford" among whom are the infamous Moon sisters, journalist Whitelaw Reid and composer Edgar Stillman Kelley. This is the sort of book you will want to share with friends; for that reason, serious collectors will want to buy two.
