superb interview with America's premier "classical" composer

This is a short ( 100 page ) but very interesting interview with Elliott Carter conducted by Enzo Restagno, an Italian professor of music. The interview(s) took place in the wake of a series of concerts in Turin (1989) celebrating Carter's (then) half century of active composing. As Carter is well known as a lively, witty conversationalist and Mr. Restagno poses sensitive and erudite questions, the interview provides telling insights into Carter's artistic conceptions ( not restricted to music ), his memories of many great musicians ( Ives, Varese, etc ) and his thoughts about contemporary music and its often misunderstood role in American culture ( Carter has received far more commissions in the last 20 years from European sources ). Highly recommended to long time "Carterians", this little volume should prove valuable to newcomers as well. This is a worthy successor to the unfortunately out of print "FLAWED WORDS AND STUBBORN SOUNDS", a series of interviews conducted by Allen Edwards c. 1969 and compares quite favorably with the equally sympathetic and insightful series of interviews with another genius of contemporary music, Iannis Xenakis ( "CONVERSATIONS WITH XENAKIS" by Balint-Vargas ). These are books that connect with the interested "common listener" and avoid the type of musicological analysis more appropriate to the academy and advanced professionals.

A Touching and Humorous Look at Humanity

Elliott Erwitt has a wonderful outlook on life. In this book, he focuses on the human hand and shows a lot of love, humor and humanity in the process. The variety includes a man kissing a woman's hand in Poland, an argument between an elderly couple in St. Tropez, people praying in Moscow, beautiful sunbathers in Rio, children playing in New Rochelle and travelers in Budapest. Most of the subjects aren't famous which is a strength. The book shows everyday scenes that could have happened anywhere. The book also includes some famous people including: Jacques Cousteau, John Updike, Richard Nixon and Nikita Khrushchev. This book is a joy and a smile. Erwitt has great vision and compassion. Many people would have walked right past these scenes without even seeing the potential to communicate by capturing touching and humorous images.

Elliot Erwitt continues to show the humor in how humans are so closely related to the canines. Fortunately for the canines, they appear to be the more intelligent of the two.

A must read book for position traders

This book is awesome, it teaches you a way of technical analysis that nobody else can even imagine. It implies that the markets are patterned, and that those patterns repeat themselves in all time frames, from 1 day to even 5 years or more.

Elliott Wave consists of 13 basic patterns. These patterns are formed by waves and/or market movements. If you can learned to recognize this patterns you can make a lot of money by been able to identify the next move.

Elliott wave analysis has rules and guidelines that will help you to know where to place your stop, how to recognize these patterns, how to make the correct wave count within these patterns, will give you the tools to predict price objectives and time frames for those price objectives, and a stop or a limit that will negate the whole thing if been wrong. The result is method that offers high probability trades that works the majority of the time if you are a discipline investor.

This book alone won't be enough to make you a great trader, but it would improve your trading dramatically. One tip, you need to learn to validate those wave counts and/or patterns by using several technical indicators that should show certain divergences in certain faces of those patterns and/or waves. The combination of Elliott Wave analysis with traditional Technical Analysis beats any other form of analysis you can possibly imagine.

In longer time frames, you need to combine those two with economic cycle theory. I like the Princeton Model. And see the charts and technical indicators in weekly or even monthly basis, and probably in logarithmic scale.

Some said that Robert Pretcher was wrong by calling the market top in 2000. Well he wasn't, neither the S&P 500, nor the Nasdaq has regained their 2000 highs, in more than 7 years. And in real terms, as well as in gold terms, the DJIA is still below its 2000 highs.

But indeed that doesn't matter to me, I am a position trader, an options position trader, I buy calls and puts, and create spreads, with time frames of two to four months. And believe me, the only way to win with options these way consistently, or at least, most of the time, and grow your money fast and quickly is by using Elliott Wave analisys. If you don't dominate this technique, stay away form options. If you do, be discipline, and trade only deep in the money options.

Appling it in for real is a little more difficult than understanding it, and it could probably take several months to learn to do it correctly and to obtain good results consistently, that is assuming you are already a fairly good market technician and have several years of experience investing in the market.

Well, it works for me, so I hope it would work for you too.

Good luck.

This is one of the 2 books that fills in all the details of Elliott Wave research and history in the time period between Elliott himself and today's Robert Prechter. The other book is the Complete Elliott Wave Writings of A. Hamilton Bolton.
In short, this book is a very necessary addition to any serious student of Elliott and Socionomics. It takes you through the history of great market calls as well as providing insight into how the knowledge of Elliott Wave has gotten to be where it is today.

Emotions rocks!

I have had the pleasure of reading Bianca Elliott's The Emotions of Jesus twice. It is a very honest, practical testament of the power of Jesus Christ in the life of an extraordinary woman. Mrs. Elliott takes experiences fom her own life to explain how Christ is a living breathing reality for all who allow Him into their lives. What I find so refreshing about this book is that it is so
authentic. There is no "God wants me to be rich" theology here. Anyone who has found the typical devotional book too "holier than me" will find this book so refreshing. I read this book at a time when I was struggling to get back into regular church attendance. For that time, this book was was my preacher. It helped me realize my need to keep connected to all things spiritual and it helped get me back into church. Mrs. Elliott is the kind of person who inspires teenagers and her adults friends to be more authentic people. The book explains how Christ experienced all the emotions that we all encounter in daily living. It is not a trivialization of the power of The Gospel, but rather a moving sacred recounting of one Christian's struggles and journey. I think this would be a great gift for anyone who has a pulse. (That's all of us,folks.)

Very Good Selection

This is a great compilation of essays from the top evangelical biblical scholars.

Highlights include: - Greg Beale on eschatology as the chief interpretive framework in Biblical hermeneutics - Daniel Block on Gog and Magog in Ezekiel - Ben Witherington on Paul and Imminence - Alan Garrow on interpreting Revelation - Earle Ellis advocating annihilationism - Richard Bauckham rebutting Moltmann's millenarianism - Stephen Williams provides an overview of the work in eschatology in the past 30 years

Overall, there is enough here to keep any student of biblical studies satisfied for a good while. Even though many of the essays are unconvincing (Beale and Ellis for example) they are nonetheless stimulating and enjoyable.

This is an excellent survey of the crucial events in European history during the second half of the 16th Century. Phillip II of Spain and the revolt of the Netherlands naturally have pride of place in this volume, but Elliot also gives coverage to events in Scandinavia, Eastern Europe and the Meditteranean (far too many histories of Europe give excessive emphasis to western Europe at the expense of the eastern and northern parts of the continent). The chapter relating to the waxing of Spanish power is particularly exciting and well written, but then the author is an expert of this period of Spanish history. I would thoroughly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in European history.
