An Artisan of Word.

It is a joy reading Cacophony. I've found Elliott Eli Jackson to know the nature of men, women, fathers, mothers and children. He knows the nature of true friends, lovers and acquaintances. The evidence lies in his work, taken from his life. I can tell this man knew many and gaining his wisdom from his experiences is apparent as his word flows effortlessly throughout this book which he calls Cacophony. Cacophony means jarring and discordant, yet the most jarring force of Mr. Jackson's words are far from discord. They are truly sweet euphony, bouncing me from memory to memory in sheer elegance.

His poems paint vivid scenes such as Avante Garde, a poem about a woman who sees beyond all the games men play and Dad's Chair, where the universal fantasy of pretending to be Dad lifted my imagination by jettisoning the gentle, yet playful minds of his brothers and sisters pretending to be Dad. Something truly universal. Many precious and enduring moments seeming to be suspended in time are brilliantly executed from moment to flickering moment, page after page. Mr Jackson's heart and mind are clearly connected and because of this he executes his work as a true artisan of word.

When I read this collection of verse about life, love, and spirit; I thought it had been written for me, about me, and concerning me. It is almost as if this Elliott Eli Jackson and I are one. I believe every home in the world would benefit with Cacophony contained in their librate assemblage of polite literature. A must read as well as a must give to every person you know!

Elliott Jackson is a breath of fresh poetic air.

This compilation of poems to me, was not only new but old at the same time. One may wonder, what does this mean? New, in the fact that I have never heard such heartfelt realism, passion, and insperation broken down in three catagories LIFE, LOVE, SPIRIT. A Cacophony of words so jumbled, and yet make so much since. Old, in the fact that these are catagories mankind has dealt with since the beginning of time. This book will make one ponder on life and the things gained or lost during the journey. Love, how it is discovered, lost, infatuated, or distroyed and kept in a persons soul like a lockbox with one key. That key, SPIRIT.

I highly recommened this book to all Gods creatures, and eagerly wait for Elliott E. Jackson's next performance. encore!!!

I came across this book in one of my many sessions of surfing for books on Amazon. This book is worth more then 5 stars! It is an easy read and the ladies give you so much information in a simple format. If you have any spiritual leanings and know anything about the law of attraction I suggest getting this book in conjunction with "Attracting Perfect Customers." This second book helps you really flesh out a mission/vision statement for your business and is also written by women.

Don't let the title deceive you because it really should have been called "Entrepreneurship for Dummies." It explains everything you need to know about launching a company but didn't even know to ask. A must read before you start writing your business plan.

Ok..Close your eyes. What would the world look like if women had access to capital markets and economic empowerment? It would look far different and we know it. Now close your eyes and cultivate that business concept that stops you working for a paycheck and gets you into that morphic, entrepreneurial state. Please feel free to move forward and change the world with confidence. Why? Because these authors, these mentors, these thoughtful women have shown up and delivered a superior "play by play" manual. This manual includes all the tools and examples you will need to get started, stay strong, and finish first. Make no mistake, these women are out to change the economic environment for all women. What legacy will you leave the women in your life? Buy the book, and cultivate your dream to life!

A Must Read for Women Business Owners

Don't be fooled by the title of this book. This is not another "networking" book or a simple "how to start a small business" book. It is also not a feminist propaganda disguised within a business development manual. If you are serious about starting, expanding, or reinventing your business consider reading this book. If you are a woman, definitely read this book!

From page one, the angels (read the book to understand why I refer to them as angels) who wrote this book make some basic assumptions: the reader is interested in paving a way in the business world, the reader has the drive to make their dreams come true, and the reader has passion, vision, a pioneering spirit, and the tenacity to make it happen.

But be prepared for lots of hard work. This isn't a read me and set me on the bookshelf type of book. The toolkit provided in the appendix (58 pages) includes checklists, to dos, and touch questions that need to be addressed. The Digging Deeper sections in each chapter provide expanded definitions of important concepts and the Summaries at the end of each chapter provide an easy way to review the important points.

Thanks to all that made this book a reality! It has a permanent place on my desk as I move my business to the next step and is already highlighted and dog-eared.

A book every woman business owner should read.

This book is jam packed with advice on every page. The inspirational stories give insight on "how it is done" as well as showcase highly successful women entrepreneurs; the tool kit provides a useful blueprint to follow right down to sample legal forms; and the down to earth style makes it easy for women just starting a business to easily follow along. That is not to say seasoned women business owners will not benefit from reading the book to take their business to the next level with the "how to's" spelled out for you.

GPS uses General Relativity

Review Date: 2006-05-18
[A review of the SECOND EDITION, 2005.]

In the last 15 years, GPS has moved from an expensive and specialised application to a mass consumer market. There are numerous books on GPS; mostly directly at that mass readership. These typically concern how to use a device with a GPS receiver.

By contrast, this book is meant for the engineer who has to design such a device. It is a compendium of technical papers covering many aspects you are likely to need. And undoubtedly some you won't, which should be reassuring. Because it means that you do not have to read all of this book for it to be useful.

The sensitivity of the GPS satellites and the resultant GPS ground resolution is amazing, as can be appreciated from some of the papers in the book. Due mostly to the stability of the satellites' orbits and their onboard atomic clocks. Chapter 7 describes how GPS requires corrections due to Einstein's Theory of General Relativity! Not just Special Relativity. As a physicist, I found this fascinating. GPS is perhaps the first field where General Relativity is used, not to be tested, but as providing a necessary quantitative model for getting correct results. Akin to how Newton's Equations have been used for 300 years in ballistics. Granted, most readers will be engineers, who might find GR a trifle exotic.

The book also has good coverage of the Russian GLONASS system. Perhaps for those who also want to use this for redundancy. Or to combine the signals from this with GPS for enhanced resolution.

I've been an engineer and PM working with GPS and GPS systems since the inception of GPS in the mid-80s. While employed by a major DOD research lab I was fortunate enough not only to have access to practically every GPS book and article available, but I also had the opportunity to meet many of the key people responsible for the design and development of the system (many of whom contributed to this text). From system design to receiver architecture, this is by far the best general reference I have found on GPS.

This is a great book to read if you plan on developing any type of GPS tracking system. While the book covers the the basics, you'll need some further resources on interfacing GPS receivers and such hardware to real-world devices.

An interesting article entitled "Tracking a Vehicle With GPS" can be read at www.closerworlds.com

A lot of mobile solutions are soon to hit the market such as mobile phones using GSM or GPRS to track a person. This book will help to understand how it all fits together. It would have been nice if the book could have touched on how older communication systems like VHF radios can transmit GPS data. For that you'll have to visit www.closerworlds.com or some other website with such resources.

I really liked this book, it's one of my favorite in the genre of travel writing, with some very funny stories from the author's travels. I do wish he took more of a postive approach though, it seems nine out of ten stories show the negative side of travel, though I guess it's good to tell it like it is. Highly reccomended for a good laugh!

Former flight attendent Elliott Hester takes a leave of absence after the events of 9-11 and opts to take his own journey around the world. We are taken along on the trip with him in an assortment of amusing and embarassing anecdotes. He starts in Miami going to Argentina, South Pacific, Australia, SE Asia, India, North Africa, and into the European countries before landing back home. He regals us with stories of topless Scrabble addicts, Dehli Belly, transvestite islanders, the dangers of driving in other countries, sauna in Finland, impersonating Samuel L Jackson in Czech, and other great stories. He runs continual risks of intenstinal problems and is not above humiliating himself. All in all, this is a splendid book showing you how you too can go across the globe on $60 a day. As with most travelogues, it loses a star because the book would have been benefitted by the inclusion of photos he took on the journey. Fast and easy read, I'll be picking up future books of his.

Chris is still deepy & achingly in luv with Pamela Sue Martin

Review Date: 2005-12-16
And that's the reason Chris interpolated THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE into DADDY'S BOY. Pamela Sue was at the apogee of her scrumptiousness in 1973. In the squeezy-wet summer of her sweet goosey youth. Don't be fooled by Chris's distractionary references to "the leggy blonde in the wedgie sandals". Carol Lynley means nothing to Chris. There's only you, Pamela Sue. Only you.

If Bobby Darin was a triple-threat, Bobby Elliott was a megatuple-threat: "When I entered his world, he was at his height. You couldn't turn on the radio without hearing his deep manly baritone belting out a lilting romantic lullaby. You couldn't go to the movies without seeing his rock-solid shoulders and receding hairline fill the screen, and you couldn't go to the supermarket without seeing his cherubic face emblazoned on the labels of Bob Elliott's Famous Salad Dressing, or Bob Elliott's Popcorn, Chewing Tobacco, and Turkey Franks. He monopolized the talk shows and gossip columns. His appearance could turn a boring party into an 'event'. He composed, he performed, he lifted weights, and he painted all the murals in the lobby of the RCA Building. He was King of Comedy, King of Drama, and Teen Beat's Hunk-of-the-Month at age 53."

Let it also be known that Chris shamelessly borrowed a bit of shtick from THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE: "He [Wulfgang Herbert] also felt that since there were no right angles in nature, there should be no right angles in anything man-made, including architecture. Every attempt at constructing a Herbert school without right angles met with disaster before the school could be completed, and so classes were held outside, literally on 68th and Lexington."

Chris appropriated Monty Python's Trim-Jeans joke with complete peace of mind: "Still later that night, with my mind lost in the parking lot of the Bates Motel, my nostrils filled with the familiar Mum aroma. I woke immediately, and there, standing in the doorway, was Daddy. He was naked except for a pair of inflatable undershorts. (The undershorts were something he had seen advertised on television. Supposedly, if you wore them to bed, you could lose weight in your sleep.) He stood swaying in the doorway for an eternity. Then, in a hushed voice, almost a whisper, he implored: 'If you eat spaghetti, please watch out for the bay leaves!' He turned and was gone as suddenly as he had appeared."

But the best reason to hate Chris is for the following passage: "The twins, A and B, shaved their heads, moved to Iran, and opened a chain of Bob's Big Boys, and the rest of the thugs were at Stanford Medical School trying to come up with a cure for those obnoxious people who insist on closing their eyes whenever they talk."

It just so happens that some of those eye-closers are thinking of Pamela Sue Martin. And there's nothing wrong with that. Isn't that right, Chris.

Chris Elliott had, prior to writing Daddy's Boy, proven himself to be THE interpreter of tortured genius Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Reading this tour-de-force gives us an insight into how one so seemingly insouciant as Mr. Elliott could render such pain so forcibly yet tenderly as he did in his one man show where he played the presidential paraplegic and tempest-tossed castaway. For we see that his own life has been a nightmare picaresque, a bob-and-weave in the eternal boxing match with the father. Daddy's Boy is a roller coaster ride through the bowels of hell from start to finish. If you liked Richard III, The Epic of Gilgamesh, and A Night Without Armor, you will run naked through your mother's boudoir due to the thrill you'll receive from Daddy's Boy.

One of the highlights of my summer was attending the Hopper exhibition at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, for which this volume (published by the MFA) was the companion text. At 288 pages, mostly filled with suberb reproductions of Hopper's paintings and sketches, this volume is comprehensive enough for even the most devoted Hopper fan. Perhaps only Gail Levin's "Catalogue Raisonne" offers a more comprehensive look at the artist. No matter how many art books you may own, clear a spot on your shelf or coffee table for this one. You will not be disappointed.

The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition: "Edward Hopper", organised by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; and the Art Institute of Chicago, 2007-2008. It comprises a series of nine essays by different writers, and concludes with Notes, a Chronology, a Checklist and Figure Illustrations and a Selected Bibliography.

This is a handsome volume large in size and almost square in format, illustrated throughout predominately in colour. The informative essays, each dealing with a specific period or genre, discuss the artist, his work and his methods, are illustrated throughout, with the relevant works appearing on or close to the page on which there are discussed. The illustrations are excellent, virtually full colour throughout, the black and white images being mainly drawings or period photographs. Many of the paintings are reproduced half or full page size, with a few full page bleed images of a detail from selected paintings. The quality of reproduction is excellent, often revealing the brush work and surface texture, and the colour rich and vibrant. In total there are 202 illustrations of which 180 are in full colour, they represent works in oils, watercolours and prints. A very desirable publication.

Plenty of catalogs and art histories have featured the works of Edward Hopper, but what makes EDWARD HOPPER different is this emphasis on his strengths from the 1920s-1940s, when he produced many of his greatest works. A focus on European influences, critical reactions to his productions, his themes and choices, and his special challenges makes for detailed insights on the personality and ambitions of Hopper, while full-page color illustrations - some 150 in all - provide visual emphasis. Perfect for art libraries and for public lending collections seeking even one definitive Hopper coverage.

My kids absolutely love Racer Buddies. What a great idea to write a kids book about auto racing, especially one that is interesting, entertaining, and beautifully illustrated.

The book is well-balanced in that the author has subtlely incorporated educational information about the auto racing sport without being heavy-handed and ruining the story.

The characters are so well crafted and the illustrations so compellingly drawn that my kids are not only interested while we're reading the story, but they can't stop talking about Ace, Snap, and Spark the rest of the day. We can't wait for the next Racer Buddies.

Although the book is a big hit with my 3-year old and 5-year old, I think it would be interesting for older kids as well, especially those already interesed in NASCAR racing.

The proof is in the pudding (well, my kid, anyway)

As a guy interested in racing, I needed a counterbalance to the horse stories my wife was reading to our young son. I picked up a copy of racer buddies. Actually, I bought three to give away some gifts. My son likes it that much. After just the first read, he was caught up in the drama of Ace trying to defend his record at Daytona. And that he has some other buddies to race and learn with. He keeps telling me that "Ace has a broken wheel, but the man fixed it" since there is a great animation of Ace in the pits with the wheel off.

So I have 2 pieces of advice:
1) buy the book and enjoy it with your kids
2) keep an eye out for the next one. I think there is a real series in here, something that can keep kids occupied...and something with a little more crossover appeal than thomas the train or a horse story ;-)

Perfect for NASCAR fans of all ages

Racer Buddies is a perfect book for NASCAR fans and their children. A great story, loaded with racing vocabulary (glossary included) and, best of all, fantastic illustrations. William Harper's drawings are full of action and personality. One can almost hear the roar of the engines and smell the cars' exhaust. I'll be ordering all the NASCAR books for my library. Here's a little secret for readers who are not familiar with Mr. Harper's creative art work - look for the chickens cleverly hidden in the drawings. There are at least seven!

My daughters love this book and my husband loves reading it to them. The characters are interesting, the pictures engaging, and the story keeps us turning the pages. We can't wait for the next one to come out.

Before I opened this book I knew virtually nothing about website development and design. A couple hours later I knew the basics and the questions to ask about website development. This book is designed to de-mystify the website process and help you choose an ethical, honest developer that you can work with to achieve the website you want. It also guides you on developing your own website. It breaks down the actual costs, teaches you how not to get ripped off and allows you to make informed decisions. The $25.00 cost may very well save you thousands. Not only is Website 411 a must read, it should be your first read.

Mr. Elliott has written a concise and helpful book for any business owner looking to establish an Internet presence. His writing style leaves out the tech jargon and uses plain language so that a newcomer to the web will understand his points with ease.

Given the amount of sales hype and inflated promises that exist in the world of web development, Mr. Elliott's book is a breath of fresh air. Highly recommended as I found it very helpful!

Before I share my opinion, I will first qualify it. I am a web site professional. I work mostly with traditional design, but I sometimes recommend various turnkey packages. I have been in the Internet industry for about 11 years. My business (which I founded in 1997) has consulted a portfolio of over 4200 clients and provided service to over 2300 web projects ranging from site development to search engine marketing. Needless to say, I lend a critical eye to any new book on the topic of web sites.

That said, I found Website 411 to be an INCREDIBLY VALUABLE resource. It is a book written to help business leaders make informed decisions, yet I have also found it to be an EXCEPTIONALLY USEFUL tool in my role as a web site service provider and consultant. It provides CREDIBLE, SUBSTANTIATED, and OBJECTIVE information to consumers (web site clients) in a way that is straightforward and easy to understand. It is evident that the author has INSIGHTFUL and RELEVANT professional experience with the subjects of web design, search engines, web usability, and marketing. Probably the most significant detail, however, is the simplicity with which these topics are conveyed in plain language (no computer jargon) so that non-technical business people can understand what they need to know. This USER-FRIENDLY book is a worthwhile resource for both the web site customer AND the web site professional.

As such, I have been successful in fulfilling two clients' needs by simply bookmarking a section of the book and asking them to read it. In short order, their questions were satisfied, saving everyone time and money in the consulting process. I will be keeping my copy of this book close at hand in my future consultations. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that every web site shopper reads it, and that every web site professional references it to their clients.

This was a Christmas gift for a dog-loving friend who also loves wine. She loved all the great photos in the book! I was initially dissapointed at the size of the book (did not look closely enough at the description and thought it would be a full-sized coffee-table book), but in the end that really didn't matter. Would highly recommend it!

Light the fireplace, pour yourself a nice glass of wine and curl up with your favorite 'pooch' to really enjoy this great little collection of the first edition of American Wine Dogs!

It's not about the wine, but about all those wonderful canines that inhabit various wineries, often greeting visitors with a friendly tail wag.

It's a dog lover's delight!

Not only are all the pictures delightful to look at, but the the bios are all unique and fun to read.

Makes a great coffee table book and it's sure to have you looking for the friendly welcome of a 'wine dog' on your next visit to a winery!
