I have been a sponge when it comes to Hypnosis, subliminal persuasion and self help for years now. I have attended the Silva "Ultra" lecture as well as staying on the cutting edge of NLP. I have many such products. So coming at this review from this perspective, I must say I am impressed and pleased with this product. Mr. Perper's tonality, timing and script are perfect for producing deep trance states and works on many levels at once at instilling the program of meeting woman easily. Respectfully, J. Faye Grantham has recently inherited Perdition House, a bordello from yesteryear that still houses some of the ladies of the night, but in ghostly fashion.

Faye loves her new home, and she loves her love life. After breaking up with her fiancé she now has two lovers, Liam, a lawyer, and Mark, a businessman. In addition to her busy social life, Faye runs TimeStop, a vintage clothing store.

The ladies of Perdition, however, are far from inactive, despite the fact they are no longer with the living. They are sending Faye dreams. Dreams that show her their lives, and that leave her feeling more than a little randy. Each lady that tells a tale showing how she found her true love will be able to pass into the afterlife to be with him. When Liam starts receiving dreams, too, Faye knows that the ladies are trying to tell her something more than just about their lives. She just has to figure out what it is they want to say.

Midnight Confessions II is a fantastically inventive story with an imaginative plot and lively characters, both living and dead. I fell in love with all of them, and loved reading their stories. What makes this story so wonderful is the characters, which come alive on the page.

Readers will enjoy entering the lives of the ladies of the evening and seeing how they found true love. They will also enjoy watching Faye decide between the two men in her life, and coming to terms with how each one treats her, and what they want for her.

Midnight Confessions II is an interesting trip into the paranormal that will fascinate its readers.

Faye Grantham inherited the run down Perdition House bordello from her recently deceased great-aunt. Sight unseen her plan is to sell the property as soon as possible. However, upon seeing the place, she has a sudden urge in her gut to live here.

Faye quickly learns she is not alone as the ghosts of those who peddled their flesh reside there. They fill her nights with erotic tales of their escapades while her luscious lawyer Liam and business mogul Mark makes those dreams real. As she relishes her new lifestyle, Faye worries that she may still have to sell as she lacks the money to maintain this house of pleasure.

This sequel to MIDNIGHT CONFESSIONS is a delightful supernatural erotic tale in which the spirited women of pleasure provide refreshing pleasure to the entertaining story line. The living trio consists of full blooded characters although the males' blood affirm that there is enough to feed one head at a time while Faye compares their high octane performances not to each other, but to the tales told by her "roommates". Bonnie Edwards writes such a heated tale that the audience will crave more Midnight Confessions trois.

This is a unique entry into the world of mystery thrillers. The hero is a 2-time Oscar-winning screenwriter (Rush Lightbody) who is now a shell of his former self due to Alzheimers. However, he is able to function due to a wonderful computer that he pre-programmed before the Alzheimers set in that interacts with him by way of speakers, microphones, videocameras and pagers. Thus, Rush Lightbody is able to convince the outside world that he is still okay by way of a series prompts and firm instructions that come from the computer.

At times, it is reminiscent of Peter Sellers' movie 'Being There' in that the people Lightbody interacts with over-interpret his incorrect responses as exceedingly wise responses. Often funny, often sad, this book causes the reader to enter the mind of an Alzheimers victim and get a taste of that alternate reality. It never degrades Alzheimers victims or goes for the cheap jokes.

The technology is a bit dated, due to the book having been written in 1995, the author was merely guessing as to the nature of computer technology in the future. Cell phones have basically replaced pagers and at one point Lightbody re-programs the computer in just a few minutes - an impossibilty, as is Artificial Intelligence thus far. However, suspend the techno-geek part of your personality and this is a wonderful book on tape experience.

Rene Auberjonois (From TV's 'Benson' and he played Odo on 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine') does an absolutely wonderful job of reading this novel. He does several characters perfectly, including an aging blonde-bombshell B-Movie actress - his characterization of her was so good that I had to pick up the box and see if there was an actress playing her part. Wonderful job! Seriously, one of the best jobs of reading a book on tape that I've heard (and if you are a frequent listener of books on tape, you know that there are some real bad ones out there!)

Unique, witty, and fun! One of the best audios I've "read"!

The concept of this book is so original! Just when you thought that there could be no new heroes, along comes one with Alzheimer's! How the author manages to pull this off is amazingly clever. It's funny, sad, suspensful, and keeps you riveted to your cassette player. I find myself wanting to read more by this superb author!

Cunninghame Graham is a superb observer and writer. In Mogreb-el-Acksa, published in 1898, Graham describes his attempt to cross the Atlas Mountains and reach the forbidden city of Tarudant. However, he was detained in the mountains for four months by the Kaid of Kintafi, and ultimately turned back to Marakesh. The places he visits and the people he meets come alive, and a current of humor bubbles throughout the narrative. His observations on western vs. eastern cultures, in many instances unfavorable to both but usually funny and profound, apparently made the book unpopular when it was published. I recommended the book to two friends, one a world traveller, the other a Moroccan. Both loved it.

Of all the essays on economic thought that I have read, this is by far the finest collection I have seen. Not only are all of his theories accompanied by precise graphs, but this also makes a swell gift. On a cold night, I love to curl up to a fire of burning Andy Jacksons and this book, along with a stiff drink. A classic for the ages!

Most of the essays collected here appeared previously in the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Economic Quarterly (or the same FRB's Economic Review). The publisher Elgar has provided a valuable service in gathering them into one volume. The book is, however, prohibitively expensive for non-institutional buyers.
Of special note is the preface, newly written for this edition, in which Humphrey pays tribute to his mentoring professors at the University of Tennessee and Tulane. In so doing he also provides insight into his own personal philosophy and approach to the history of economic thought.

This is a companion volume to Humphrey's earlier collection: Money, Banking, and Inflation (also published by Elgar). By an eminent historian of economic thought, the book, in the words of the publisher, "addresses key concepts, theories and tools in the area of money, exchange and production which have proved indispensable to the development of economics. Each essay focuses on a prominent theory or tool, examines its essential elements, identifies its origins and traces its development across a succession of economists, problems, controversies and applications."

"NIne Silver Rules"--A Must Have, Must Read Book

In today's world, where people often talk at and through each other, Ed Horrell has captured the essence of how to talk WITH people, and to communicate with them in ways that inspire, motivate, encourage and elicit positive response. It is one of those books that can be read cover to cover over a nice cup of coffee or glass of wine, or that can be used as a resource center for finding the right way to say just the right thing, at just the right time.

The emergence of email, text messaging and 30 second voicemail has seriously eroded the ability of the human speaker to sincerely and effectively communicate verbally with another. Horrell has captured the essential keys to this valuable skill in his Nine Silver Rules.

I found it to be a companion work to (and much better written) than the book that instructs us on the fine art of cheese moving.
Even if we know the cheese is moving and that the cheese may be gone, we still need to be able to verbally communicate that fact to those affected in a way that is both clear and considerate. Ed Horrell's marvelous little book shows us how to do just that.

After nearly twenty years in sales and marketing, I can say without hesitation this is one of the most useful tools I've come across.

If you're in business, you're in the business of human relations and this is absolutely the best non-academic work I've seen for professionals within multiple disciplines that deals with human relationships and communication. For the sales professional to the medical doctor, this book is a must read.

Although it's packed with a lot of critical information, it's a quick, easy, enjoyable read. One you'll keep referring back to after years of use.

One of the most effective strategic planning meetings I ever attended involved the management team of a small company. Using a highly structured and facilitated profiling system, the team members learned their personal communication styles and how those style interacted with one another. This particular team emerged from that meeting with a new focus on their interpersonal communications and proceeded to win national awards for their company's performance during the next two years.

Now, you can have the same advice that this management team got. Ed Horrell's More Than Words provides a quick, easy assessment of your communication style followed by a thorough analysis of how that style relates and interacts with other styles. You'll also learn how your style behaves under pressure, praise and criticism.

If you have coworkers, customers, prospects or others you must relate to, this book is for you. Ed's powerful "silver rules" will help anyone do a better job of communicating and recognizing how they are being perceived. If you own a business, you should buy a copy for every employee. You and your team will get more value from that investment than any other similar investment you might make!

One of my grandsons bought this book for me last Christmas explaining this was what led him to join the Mormon church last year. He joined against his parents wishes and brought great grief to me as well (I'm a retired Baptist pastor). At first I thought it would be one of those fluffy, no substance books, similar to those found in so many bookstores. I couldn't have been more wrong. This book has shaken my sense of composure. Never, in the nearly fifty years of studying and preaching the Bible have I seen anything that can compare to its comprehensibility. I never imagined the possibility of Mormonism being the true church after spending most of my professional life vilifying and demonizing Mormonism to my flocks based upon the books and seminars made available to us that exposed the falsehood of the Mormons. I'm ashamed to admit allowing groups to come into our churches and give seminars to our members to "condition" them against the Mormons and portray them as non-Christians and of being a "cult." I've even had a hand in having their missionaries evicted from their home when they were renting a suite from a sister in our church. I have spent the last six months verifying Mr Watson's thousands of references and have spent over $2,300 on additional books to make sure he wasn't overstating his case. It isn't an exaggeration to say I have NEVER encountered a more logical, air-tight and scripturally accurate work. It's tremendously FRUSTRATING! I can't even find ONE reference that isn't valid. This one book alone more than outweighs my entire Christian library of over 4,000 books, including several hundred that attack and "expose" the falsehood of Mormonism. I've contacted my pastor friends and those who minister to Mormons, seeking assistance and even bought 4 copies from our local bookstore which I sent to four of them but not a single one of them could refute a single chapter in Mr Watson's book. My experience with this book reinforces one of my friend's statement to me that among those who know Mr Watson and his work, "Of all Mormon scholars in the world, Mr Watson is the one ALL Baptist and Evangelical Anti-Mormons fear the most." And, "No one dares to debate him." I feel the last 49 years of living within the Baptist fold, first in Texas as a new immigrant with my dear bride, and recently in California has been built upon a lie. I can't in good conscience continue to reject Mormonism just because of a fifty-year conditioning. Mr Watson has opened my eyes to the clarity and beauty of the Bible's real teachings and I'm looking forward to the release of his next volume. I've begun reading and sincerely praying about the Book of Mormon for the very first time and am amazed at its contents and teaching. It has a power in it that is peaceful and joyous that I couldn't discern when I read it only to seek errors. I've also begun attending LDS services on Sundays and am now taking the missionary discussions from two nice young men twice a week with my grandson sitting in after attending university classes. I've agreed to be baptized into the church and two of my fellow pastor friends who are also retired have also begun receiving the missionary discussions. Despite these missionaries seem very unlearned and didn't even know who Mr Watson was, they possess an enthusiasm and desire to do good that is so refreshing to see among the youth of today. It seems the Lord moves in mysterious ways. Praise the Lord!

For Those Who Seek The TRUTH.

Rejecting truth means rejecting God. It is easy to dismiss this book--just close your eyes and refuse to accept that which is laid out before you. Those with moral integrity who have a sincere desire to seek Truth and who are not afraid of the Truth wil read this book and study the issues carefully.

Even atheists, agnostics, and non-Christians can utilize a strict intellectual approach since it will cause one to arrive at an identical conclusion, provide the Bible is used as the standard for legitimacy.

You will feel like putting this book down, and you will feel like never opening it again, somehow continuing in your faith, locking away the truth into a corner of your mind. But the truth always comes from God, and can never be destroyed. Jesus knocks on the door, and many don't even attempt to see who's knocking, preferring to live in ignorance.

If you wish to take that leap of faith of proceeding to read this book, instead of, like the Pharisees, remaining in your comfortable traditional mainstream faith, closing your eyes to the Messiah in front of you, then please keep a copy of your Bible with you to determine the accuracy of Watson's references(Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.) Be honest with yourself and with God.

Mormonism was a wonderful book. I highly recommend it for missionaries, or anyone who is searching for answers when confronted by Anti-Mormon literature and groups. With the guidance of the holy spirit, this book, will give you an in depth look at Mormon Theology. Even the most well educated LDS member will learn something new! The author did an excellent job compiling information from many sources, not just LDS, to make his point. He glorifies the bible, and brings truth to the Book of Mormon. This book will help a non-member see how The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a biblically Christian religion. Anyone who reads it and brings the holy spirit with them, will surely find truth.

The memoir of Career Foreign Services Officer Edward J. Perkins, the first U.S. black ambassador to South Africa in 1986, comes to life in a hard-hitting memoir of politics and social change that will prove a 'must' for any seeking insights into South Africa under apartheid - and after. Perkins came from a cotton farm in segregated Louisiana to join forces with the elite Foreign Service, becoming the first black officer to ascend to director general. But even these many achievements would be superceded by his work in South Africa - and MR. AMBASSADOR: WARRIOR FOR PEACE tells it all.

An account of a black man who truly pulled himself up by the bootstraps. He was raised on a cotton farm in segregated Louisiana by grandparents who could neither read nor write. He went on to get an education and ultimately enter the elite white Foreign Service. He was appointed as U.S. Ambassador four times: Liberia, South Africa, the United Nations, and Australia. A very well written book.

This is a terrific book! Perkins is a Black American born in 1928, who became a diplomat in the Foreign Service, and was the US Ambassador to South Africa in the 1980s during apartheid. The first chapter describes life in rural segregated Louisiana and Arkansas in the 1930s. It is a moving account, the more so because it is so simply and straight-forwardly told. Anyone who wonders if we've made progress in race relations should read this chapter. Moving on we meet the people outside Perkins' family who mentored him, and see clearly the truth of his statement that "... none of us goes through life unassisted." Later we see him as a US Marine, learning Japanese and studying Asian philosophy. It is just inspiring.

That's enough. Get the book; read it; and pass it on.

Review of Mr. Dimock Explores the Mysteries of the East
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-11
The great strength of this book lies in its brevity. Two-hundred pages divided by twenty chapters makes for fast reading, covering a wide variety of subjects. Edward Dimock is a man of the world; his depth of experience allows him to write with both fondness and irreverence. Early on he confesses himself to be an old fuddy-duddy, guided by the ancient Manu (like Dante and Vergil), yet is not above numerous and much-appreciated pop references to anything from Mel Brooks to Star Trek. For those of us who know choice little of India (let alone been there) Mysteries of the East is both didactic and hilarious. Dimock's a wonderful writer, quickly establishing a humorous tone while discussing otherwise weighty matters. The rhythm he works himself into had me anticipating his editorializing, even in the midst of the more luxurious description. He's always "on", always has a little something to say about his travels and discoveries, be they an American movie star in Agra or the island of Diu where Dimock "communes with the spirits" (my realization of what he meant by this caused me to laugh out loud; I was finally hooked). Dimock is a witty observer of detail, with a well-educated sense of comparison and contrast. The similarity between Santa Claus and Ganesha is nicely drawn, while the author is careful to distinguish between Sir Richard Burton and just plain Richard Burton. The Indians and Sahibs are allowed to speak for themselves either charmingly or boisterously, quick character sketches that add flavor to the cultural mix. Dimock also knows his Vishvamitra and Herodotus and lets these old-timers have their say. But as he himself writes, "It is no news to anybody that language is more than words", and some very fine study is put into his silent characters as well, everyone from Yusuf the waiter to Nikki the German shepherd. Dimock takes an obvious delight in the menagerie that is India, from thieving monkeys to a charging water buffalo, and a most striking non-speaking role is played by Gopal the elephant, whose astuteness and venerability Dimock compares favorably to his own father. He's correct in describing the glance of the polite pachyderm as sagacious: some animals--say, cows,--look right through you, but elephants look right at you . . . appraisingly. The change of scene in Part III of the book caught me somewhat off-guard as Dimock leaves India and travels to Aden and then back to New England. I thought the whole book was supposed to be about India, but I got to thinking about the title; the East. After all, Aden is in the Middle East, and Massachusetts is on the east coast, and both are plenty mysterious to me as well. The most memorable advice Dimock provides if one is to truly see India is that one must: 1. Meet a maharaja, whether he be sober or inebriated, 2. Ride an elephant to see an outdoor drama without trampling any of the locals, 3. See a ruby-eyed idol deep in a rain-forest straight out of The Jungle Book, 4.Take in a live performance by a cobra and its handler in the street, or at least stumble upon one of the great snakes out in the bush, or (Shiva willing) in one's own bathtub.

Mr. Dimock possesses a perspective on India that, few if any, Westerners will ever have. He is probably the only Western author who has been able to notice and accept the chaos of India. Mr. Dimock aslo has the unique insight of perceiving the order that arises from this choas. In his book he presents India to us as a place of constant comedy the humor of which is best understood by someone who is fimilar with the region and it's people. India comes across as a place of extremes where even the animals have a personality and express it in their own right. The book was funny and nostalgic at the same time. The ideas would have been best expressed in an Indian language but the limiations of English as a language used to recount India is also very amusing. The book is very highly recommended especially to those who live in mortal fear and awe of the place. Thanks! B

I am passionate for non-fiction books about India so this book was on my personal reading list. I will mention this: Something about Mr. Dimock's writing reminds me of that "lost" writing style of the 19th century. This is an absolutely fabulous book that unfortunately will probably be overlooked time and time again by readers. This is a book I will buy and always keep because it is so perfect in every way!

Find yourself a teacher and go study...--Pirke Avot. It is obvious to me, that Edward Gastfriend was influenced by the teachings of his generation and the leadership of the youth resistance fighters. This is what helped him survive the concentration camps against all odds. I challenge each and every one of you to- " find yourself a teacher ( a leader) or become a leader yourself." This is what our generation seems to be lacking. I congratulate Edward Gastfriend on his book, and I give him 5 stars for his bravery and courage in writing this book.

Who Will Say Kaddish for Them?

With so many survivors aging and passing on while revisionists and hate-mongers grow in ranks, Edward Gastfriend has performed a personally courageous and vitally important public service by recounting his shattered youth to bear witness to a tragedy that still defies description. The author bravely strips away the superficially protective veneer of passing time to bare wounds that have never truly healed: the cruelly inexplicable and untimely loss of his parents, his sisters and brothers, his youth, and his own innocence. And for what reason did he have to suffer this undeserved and inordinate pain? Simply because human silence - not just Nazis' and Poles', but every human's - sanctioned or ignored the beastly hatred which consumed millions of lives during the darkest epoch known to man. I wish to personally thank Mr. Gastfriend for his courage in writing his memoir: who will speak for the dead, if not the living.

An authentic story of faith, survival and values

This book proves that all Holocaust stories are not the same. It is unusual in that it is written by an adult through the eyes of the young boy he once was. Because of that it is an emotionally wrenching account in straightforward simple terms. The truth is often like that. The book names places, people and occurrences in such detail that is totally convincing.

"My Father's Testament" is a must read to help understand the enormity of man's inhumanity to fellow man juxtaposed with man's ability to survive with faith in God, family and fundamental values of right and wrong.

This is a story for young and old and people of all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds who seek to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the human condition.
