A Must-Have Book on Prayer--quoted by many many authorsReview Date: 2006-07-27
My favorite book on prayer.Review Date: 2005-07-17
The BEST and BLUNTEST book ever written on "prayer". Review Date: 2005-01-03
No book, not even Murray's, has ever been written on "prayer" that can hold a candle to The Complete Works of E.M. Bounds on Prayer. In fact, if you read this book (actually 8 little books) and it doesn't revolutionize your prayer life, then you need to re-read it until it does. If you read this book and think that it is "mediocre", that will be more of a statement about you than about this book. Seldom is any book hailed as the unquestioned "Greatest Book" on a particular subject by ALL the specialists on that subject, but this one is. And the experts are right. So bless yourself or someone today and buy this book. Then get ready for the revolution! God bless. Mike

A Great Compilation of Bounds' Books on Prayer LifeReview Date: 2005-08-18
As breathing is a physical reality to us, so prayer was a reality for Bounds. He took the biblical command "pray without ceasing" almost as literally as animate nature takes the law of the reflex nervous system, which controls our breathing.
Because Bounds so diligently practiced what he preached, we was able to capture the essence of prayer, and his works live on to call today's Christians to higher discipleship and an energetic, God-devoted prayer life.

The Third Volume...Review Date: 2008-07-07
Get them new or used.
The original Conan! Accept no substitutesReview Date: 2008-06-25
The stories in these books are organized in the order they were written, which helps see Howard's development of Conan and of the new (at the time) sword and sorcery genre.
There are other collections of Conan stories out there (in particular the 12-book series), but those collections contain revised ("modernized") version of Howard's Conan stories, and Conan stories by other authors (such as L. Sprague De Camp and Lin Carter) which may be worthwhile stories, but they're definitely NOT Howard Conan stories.
Enjoy this volume; enjoy all three volumes. The original Howard stories are definitely a gift.

Conan the ThirdReview Date: 2008-05-27
When I first began reading Robert E Howard's Conan stories my expectations were quite low, I expected Conan to be a stock "hack everyone to bits" hero with little depth. As I continued to read I became more and more amazed at the staggering difference between Howard's Conan and the muscle bound galoot characterised by Hollywood.
Conan, of course is a barbarian, a man brought up in the hardened lands of Cimmeria, taught at an early age to fight, ride and survive. But at the same time he is a dichotomy; a man of furious, explosive fighting prowess tempered with a thoughtful intelligence that defeats his enemies in battle not simply by use of brawn, but with a mind that knows how to outwit opponents with superior strategies and brilliant, off-the-cuff, tactical decisions.
He has many friends, many enemies, plays many parts; the mercenary, the reaver, the pirate, the commando and eventually a wise and just king. But for all these things the underlying barbarian is never far from him. It is the thing that defines him, and with it he has a code of honor that often puts, so-called, civilised people to shame.
If you buy this book it is well worth the price if only for "Beyond the Black River", which in my estimation is one of the finest Conan tales by Howard. But there are four other admirable tales included as well. Enjoy.

Wonderful Insights from a Great Defense AttorneyReview Date: 2007-11-09
Throughout the book, there are many insightful practice tips for defense attorneys. For example, Black instructs for cross-examination that "although jurors needed to understand that the detectives had failed to do many things, I didn't wnat to transmit the impression that 'my client's guilty, but the cops blew the investigation and so they didn't prove it."
All four cases in the book read like great mysteries. Whether you are a defense attorney or not, you are sure to thoroughly enjoy this book.
Black's Law: A clinic on strategies and tactics. Review Date: 2007-09-05
This book encapsulates all that is Roy Black. Delivering gut-wrenching stories of trench warfare, he said, "My cases are World War III to me. I don't take prisoners when I go to trial." Attorneys make their living through words. And this book is a testament to that. Written for the everyday man, the style of writing is brief, easy to read, and compelling. It's as if Black is masterfully telling his stories to a jury. And once again, he wins them over. Highly recommended.

Stay away from this book!! Its a waste of paper...Review Date: 2007-10-06
The book uses a simple way to discribe many cases of things going bad. But it stays on the superficial layer of the problems.
The paradigm it uses is describe the problem, ways to prevent it, and how to get off the hook. This may seem very tempting to read because of the easy way to analyse the content of the cases. I like the 3 step aproach, but I didn't see and substance of the way she explained and the conjectures of details each process entails.
The book in general is a simpleton... and its boring.
Doing eBay RightReview Date: 2006-09-08
This is exactly the point where "Don't Get Burned on eBay" comes in handy. Reading this book was like finding a good friend and a compass while wandering lost in the wilderness. I started out marking the impor-
tant points I came across but soon gave that up since there wasn't a lot that I didn't feel like underlining. It's crammed full of useful information.
One aspect that doesn't get enough play for the prospective reader in
my opinion is that the book not only tells you how to avoid the scams
and frauds, it also tells a newcomer how to buy and sell with the legiti-
mate people and do it right the first time. To me as a newbie, that was
just as important. And even if you read this and never do an eBay trans-
action, you will have likely learned something about mail-ordering from
anyone. This is a good reference that I will keep in my library.
A great resource for new and experienced eBayers alike.Review Date: 2006-04-04
The book is also filled with real stories of eBay snafus which clearly illustrate the author's points. In addition, the author's sense of humor makes the book a pleasure to read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is active in eBay - even if you don't read it cover-to-cover, it would act as a great reference guide.
Worth Ten Times the PriceReview Date: 2006-04-02
In addition to being clear, the author has a sense of humor, which makes this not only informative, but entertaining as well. The chapter layout makes it useful as a reference tool, to which the reader can turn when she has a question. The reader should read the whole book once, but afterwards, it is easily used to refer back to for specific questions or occurrences.
I'm a librarian in a university library, and I evaluate books all the time. For its purpose, this is one of the clearest and best I've seen.
Takes the fear out of eBayReview Date: 2006-04-08
I've been using eBay since 1998 and I still picked up dozens of new things and now understand some of the more esoteric features of the site. When I lent the book to my mom, who has shyed from the site because she felt it was too risky, she proudly made two purchases using only the book as a guide. I wish all DIY and instruction style books were this much fun to read, I'd know how to do a lot more things if they were.

Solo'd OverReview Date: 2001-04-11
"...Despite her unwavering ambition and machinelike training, though, Dover Solo's author unself-consciously confesses her fears whenever they surfaced, which keeps her narration always at a human level. Cleveland states being "downright scared" at the initial prospect of open-water training without a partner. During her ten-hour qualifying swim one year later in a New Hampshire lake, she censors none of her moments of weakness, suffering her own "private hell" while her swimming companion seemed to be in much better shape. Even after long months of intense yardage, upon arriving in Maine for a three-week solo training camp, Cleveland enumerates her various anxieties before entering the waters off Bailey Island ("These were not the thoughts of a confident Channel swimmer"). It's this utterly transparent self-representation that will help ensure the book's enduring value in the field of swimming literature, for it avoids transforming the tale from fact to legend.....
...Preparation is key for such an endeavor, but though Dover Solo records one woman's successful swim, the book continually reminds us that once you enter the chop nothing is certain. Cleveland honestly relates what training aids or feeding selections worked and didn't work for her. She is consistently forthcoming about her fluctuations in confidence, and often suggests that luck (the benevolent "Channel Gods") played no small role in her accomplishments. Readers years down the road will appreciate her transparency as they contemplate their own prospective athletic milestones; particularly humbling is a scene where, immediately after jumping into the waters off the coast of Dover, and even after "sweat[ing] the details" like no one else, she realizes "I just smeared my goggles and need new ones right now, and I forgot to put drops in my ears, and I forgot to put Vaseline on my lips." This is a human achievement after all, with all its humanity evident...."

epitaph for a peachReview Date: 2007-10-02
Not so much an epitaph, but a love letter to the landReview Date: 2007-08-08
A third generation Japanese American peach and grape farmer, David Masumoto inherited the family orchard from his father. He also had the heritage of his childhood memories of how that particular peach variety, Sun Crest, tasted and ran with juice unlike the pretty red baseballs that have passed for today's supermarket peach varieties. Mr. M wanted to show the world how delightful an old-fashioned peach could be.
When he took over his father's farm, he resolved to not only continue growing his Sun Crests, but to do it organically. This would prove challenging in our day and age of cheap, quick fixes; moreover, it would test his strongly felt ideals. The land needed to heal and replenish itself after years of chemical fertilizers and toxic pest control methods. Masumoto had to take his example from research on other organic farming practices, planting wildflowers to encourage beneficial insect life and sowing "green manure" crops to act as natural mulch and compost. All this took time, patience, and faith that his hard work would eventually pay off.
Epitaph for a Peach is rich in sensory descriptions, philosophy, and nostalgic flashbacks. It is a picture of the way a farmer's life is connected to the seasons, capricious weather patterns, and changing market conditions. Not incidentally, Masumoto also teaches about the obscure history of Japanese farmers in the Valley - something that even I, native to Fresno, had little idea of. Reading this book was a slow, thoughtful experience much in the same manner that one slows down to savor a rich fruit. Recommended to anybody interested in history, growing food, or the vanishing California landscape.

Great Dictionary.Review Date: 2005-06-15
This is perhaps one of the best, if not the best, mathematics dictionary. But it is just that, a dictionary of mathematical terms and phrases. Do no expect it to teach you any subject in mathematics. It would be great for any student taking a mathematics course. If the student runs across a term that he/she might have forgotten, the student can refer to this dictionary for a quick reminder.
