this author is not a professional writer or a professional archiologist, it makes the book even more interesting, in this day when we are interested in the supernatural, this book is a subtle way to make you think about the role that some faith may play in our lives

Shortchangers is an incredible novel that anyone in, or considering getting into, education must read! It has a great statement about discrimination and what will happen if society accomodates people with differences too much.

i found this book carelessly deposited in a dump.it was dated by it's owner "1892"..i salavaged it because i love old books..i found a rare piece of excellent literature..the writing style should be taught in english classes in every high school in america..the storyline is saturated with twists, turns and suspense but ultimatly deals with human nature and the consequences of human behavoir..we should be hammering the publisher to reprint it so no one else has to rummage through a dump to have their mind enlarged.

The first chapter of a trilogy set in near-future America

This first chapter of what is (hopefully) a three book story arc centers on the fragmentation of american society after a limited nuclear exchange. It centers on main character Ted Quantrill and his journey from boy scout to government assasin. His natural reflexes make him a deadly weapon, a very useful weapon in a land struggling to hold onto the fragile shards of its civilization. The book has a great futuristic, yet plausible old west feel about it and leads quite nicely into the followup book "Wild Country". Packed with action and interesting characters (including a boar the size of a rhino named Baal)this book is one of my alltime favorites even if it is unknown by most readers of mainstream sci fi. I highly recommend it and the second part "Wild Country" Here's hoping Mr. Ing decides to pick up this storyline again and finish it soon, I've been drooling for the third book for years! He even teases us with a brief outline of upcoming events at the end of "Wild Country". Don't be put off though, these books are very satisfying in themselves. It is intended as a compliment to say they left me wanting just a little bit more!

Captain Riley and his crew of Connecticut sailors lose their way in a fog near the Canary Islands in 1815 and are shipwrecked on the west coast of Africa north of Senegal. The Sahara desert, with all it's sandstorms and lack of water and vegetation, meets the sea where they land. They are captured and enslaved by extremely poor local Bedouin tribes, who travel by camel, sharing all they have. The Captain believes his men will perish without water and food and can do nothing but accept their fate. But he clings to the dream of collecting his scattered crew and paying a ransome to free them so they all can go home. The book he writes a few years later inspired many Americans to become abolitionists, including Abraham Lincoln. Unforgettable story.

I bought this book for myself, but although I enjoyed reading it, my younger siblings (5, 8, 11) enjoyed it more. My eight-year-old brother read it five times! The plot is simple and clean, yet interesting. A cowboy named Slim receives a secret letter, calling him to help out as a cattle detective. On his way to the town that's having trouble, he hears gunshots and sees two men shooting at someone invisible among the rocks. Slim scares them off by shooting one in the elbow. However, as the duo runs away, they steal his wonderful horse Lightening while he is meeting the man they were shooting at. This man has also gotten a secret letter and they team up together to stop the cattle rustlers. (It's more exciting ((and complicated)) than that, but that's how book summaries go.) Highly recommended.

After reading this book I learned how there's an important need for facilitating the spread of communication in Latin America and other areas of the world. Dean insightfully describes the history of the radio in Central America, and how it has impacted the lives of many. A must read if you enjoy the radio, or are interested in being a part of ministry.

Somewhere about two thirds of the way through this book I put it down & said to myself "these people are crazy!" Then I picked it up again and said "But Gosh, I wish I could have been there". A good chunk of the book is background to clipper ships in general & specifically the history of the "last American Clipper" but there is also the riveting account of a group of "crazies" who find the remains of SNOWSQUALL abandoned and rotting at a dock in the South Atlantic and do their best to save at least part of her for a maritime museum back in the States. That they succeed (at least in part) frankly left me a little teary-eyed. Those of you who aren't at least a little bit "odd" when it comes to Tall Ships may say "why bother?" My guess is that after reading this book you may begin to understand. For those of us who already have the disease, you will be rooting for the authors and their friends the whole way. Nicely written, nicely illustrated, a real "keeper".
