Imagine an audience that is really listening. Without compromising musical sophistication, you engage listeners of every age and experience level so that they enthusiastically embrace- and even perform or create- complex musical masterworks. Their applause and excitement rivals the crowds at major athletic events. They leave the performance gratified and have a new understanding and appreciation of music; you know you have reached them successfully.

This is no fantasy. Major conservatories and performers have developed entirely new ways to connect with and captivate audiences.

David Wallace has been teaching these techniques at The Juilliard School and to orchestras and conservatories around the world. For the first time, "Reaching Out" gives you access to the ground-breaking principles that will revolutionize your approach to audience engagement and interactive performance.

ENDORSEMENTS:

"Reaching Out will make a tremendous contribution to the growth in quality of arts education programs."
-Polly Kahn, Vice President American Symphony Orchestra League

"A must-read for any musician who wants to extend his or her audience beyond the traditional concert hall."
-Rebecca Charnow, Director of Educational Outreach at the Manhattan
School of Music

"The principles of Reaching Out have revolutionized my children's concerts."
-William Prinzing Briggs; Conductor and Music Director, Central
Kentucky Youth Orchestras

"David Wallace has made a major contribution to the field of orchestra education with this book."
-Jessica Balboni, Director, Educational Initiatives,
Los Angeles Philharmonic Association

"One of those rare, lovely occasions when the right ideas, the right messenger, and the right timing all come together to make a real impact on the future of classical music."
-Eric Booth, faculty, the Juilliard School; columnist, Chamber
Music America

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Whether playing classical viola with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center or Texas-style fiddle in his band "The Doc Wallace Trio," David Wallace is at home in front of an audience. He has been reaching out to new audiences since he first toured elementary schools with his junior high school orchestra. Now a faculty member at The Juilliard School and a Senior Teaching Artist at the New York Philharmonic, Wallace also has performed for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the New York Philharmonic, the Taos Chamber Music Festival, the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, Young Audiences Inc., and countless new music festivals, chamber music series, hospitals, schools, churches, libraries, community centers, retirement homes, and Texas-style fiddle contests.

Between them, Norman A. Graebner, Richard Dean Burns and Joseph M. Siracusa have published over two hundred scholarly books and articles on American history, foreign policy and diplomacy. Their latest volume, "Reagan, Bush, Gorbachev: Revisiting the End of the Cold War," is exactly what one would expect from three historians of this caliber. Anyone wishing to understand the end of the Cold War - which is itself critical to understanding contemporary American foreign policy and diplomacy - would do well to start with this book.

New series of papers...

This book presents many new essays from several ancient scholars. The papers are well-written and on diverse topics. Although the hardcover is expensive, it is well worth the price, since quality commentaries and new scholarship seems scarce. The article on the Demiurge by Jan Opsomer is top notch and well worth the price of the book. M. R. Wright's paper is excellent as well. Look out Cornford, there's some new kids on the block. Included in the back of the book is a comprehensive list of commentaries and translations of the Timaeus, which is extremely useful.

I just finished listening to this book, and all I can say is God bless John Dean! Yes, he was part-and-parcel of the whole Evil Empire that Nixon tried to construct, but he has turned his back on his wicked, wicked ways, and come clean about his part in elevating the monstrosity that is our current Chief Justice.

Rehnquist is an evil, racist, homophobic whack-job who shouldn't be allowed in public without restraints... much less allowed to wear that goofy robe with the stripes, and pass judgement about matters beyond his ken. This informative book shines the light of TRUTH on this insane man's history, and explains in detail how he LIED to get a lifetime job on our nation's highest Court, where he has endeavored to undermine the Constitution and YOUR civil rights for over 30 years.

Rafkin's reading is incomparable... his Nixon voice is flawless... just the right touches of evil and paranoia.

If you love your country, and want to know more about the right-wing nutjobs who are trying to misappropriate it, READ or LISTEN to this book!

Reporter Alec O'Brian didn't believe Christine McKinley's life was in danger -- until his story about her led to another life-threatening "accident." It looked as if someone really wanted to hurt her. There was nothing for a hero to do except find out why.

Alec's plan involved rules:
1. They needed to escape to a secluded hideout.
2. Alec needed to learn everything about Christine.
3. Heated, passionate lovemaking was highly recommended.
4. Under no circumstances was Christine to fall in love with him.

Too late, Alec realized he'd fallen in love. Once he finished rescuing Christine, would she have any more use for a hero?

"Rescuing Christine" is an entertaining, very humorous tale of two opposites attracting. Alec is charming but lazy, while Christine is highly motivated but doesn't know how to have fun. Their close proximity develops a relationship between them, and the final balance in their relationship is sweet and believable.

In addition, I appreciated that, while Alec hadn't really had any serious relationships, he also didn't seem to have a commitment phobia. I grow tired of men with commitment phobias in romances, and appreciated that, once Alec had gotten to know Christine, he realized that they were really good together.

This book is a well-written, smoothly-developed book with appealing characters and a great deal of wit. Read and enjoy!
