Plenty of suspense and drama. A very enjoyable book set in the fabled lost city of Atlantis. The story of the warrior-priest Deucalion and of the evil Queen Phorenice leaves the reader unable to put this well- written book down.

I ordered this for a friend to help complete her collection. She was thrilled to get it and uses it in Sunday School teaching preparation. It is basic Bible teaching for laymen unfamiliar with the Biblical languages, and solid, too.

Dean gave this book to me when I was working in a bar that he regularly attended. Through the years I've managed to pal it up with him and I think he's a good dude.
This book is a stunning example of digital art. It all looks photographic without being to realistic, but it also has a very painterly quality.
Buy this book if you come across it.

Read this little book in 1963 as a young nuclear engineer. Wooldridge (of Thomson, Ramo, Wooldridge) takes a complex subject and, sitting on the beach in Hawaii, simplifies it for pedestrian understanding. E.g., we all know nerve cells command our muscles, but Wooldridge explains that the signal is a stream of pulses, conveyed as a wave front where the ratio of sodium to potassium changes. Learn how cats see! Delighted to find this source to replace my copy lost so long ago.

I recently took over the website for the school I'm a network admin at. Being the first website I've ever managed, and the first time I've ever used the Macromedia Studio software, I decided to look for a book to help me when I couldn't figure something out myself. This book does just that. It doesn't get into every little detail on how to do everything, but gives you just the right info you need to get going in the right direction. Easy to read and good for a beginner.

This Perennial Classic edition of Main-Travelled Roads gives the text of the 1930 edition, which contained the six stories of the original 1891 edition as well as the six stories added in subsequent editions (see below), an introduction by William Dean Howell and the author's Preface to the 1922 edition.
The original 1891 edition, published by The Arena Publishing Compny and subtitled "Six Mississippi Valley Stories," contained these stories: "A Branch Road," "Up the Coule" (the spelling was changed later to Coule and then to Cooly), "Among the Corn-Rows," "The Return of a Private," "Under the Lions Paw," and "Mrs. Ripley's Trip." The 1893 edition, copyrighted by The Century Company, added an introduction by William Dean Howells, and three stories: "The Creamery Man," "A Day's Pleasure," and "Uncle Ethan Ripley." In 1899, The Macmillan Company bought the contract for Main-Travelled Roads and brought out a new, illustrated edition, to which two stories were added: "Gods Ravens" and "A Good Fellow's Wife." In 1909 Harper & Brothers (later Harper & Row) purchased the contract for the book and in a 1922 edition published the eleven stories and an introduction by Hamlin Garland. In 1930 Harpers published the book in its final form, with revisions made by the author, with the earlier introductions by Howells and Garland, with illustrations by Constance Garland, and with a twelfth and final story, "The Fireplace" (which had originally appeared in the December 1906 Delineator).

Good Picture Book of Malcolm X

Walter Dean Myers is a great writer. He is very absorbing and great reading. He paints an unbiased portrait of Malcolm X's life. It is interesting and accurate. The book is out of print now and I suspect it is from the fact that Myers doesn't hide the fact Macolm X was an advocate of violent overthrow and criticized Martin Luther King Jr. for being non-violent in his advocacy for change. I think this is troubling for anybody and is a troubling aspect of admiring Malcolm X. The book is honest and doesn't advocate Malcolm X per se but doesn't criticize his penchant for violence either. It must be said that Malcolm X only spoke of violence and his not known for performing violent acts as an advocate for Islam and African-American rights.

The best guide for the Eastern Sierra

This book has been out of print for almost a year because the author is working on a new edition. It is one of the best guides on trails, geology and plants in the Eastern Sierra. I have had countless people ask for it at the Visitor Center where I work. We are expecting the new edition sometime in August. It is the best and only reference for hiking trails in the Eastern Sierra. For Genny Smith's reference to the Owen's Valley area (Bishop Area), please refer to the book: "The Deepest Valley."
