A great book

A great book. I personally am not into the series of these books but I thought this was excellent. It's about this alien island that appears off the coast of Oregon. Sent to investigate is a team of scientists and a platoon of soldiers. But when they get there they find an abandoned alien city and the walking dead that are trying to kill these soldiers. An excellent book, one of the only ones I ever wanted to read again.

A Seminal Work
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-05
In November 1951, Bill Bast was a fellow theater arts student with James Dean at UCLA. When Dean was booted out of his college fraternity, he proposed to Bast that they rent an apartment together, which they soon did. A friendship developed which lasted until Dean's death. Bast's book is a sensitive memoir of Dean, was the first book published about the actor, and has been a vital source for other biographers since then.

You'll feel as if you've met the real man in this book!

Review Date: 2000-12-10
Fans, film historians, and even other biographers owe a lot to Martinetti's ground-breaking book. He presents a rounded, candid view of the boy from Indiana who became an icon on September 30, 1955. Martinetti's sources are the best -- Dean's friends during his lean New York years, those who knew Dean socially in Hollywood, and those who worked with him. Dean certainly made an impression on everyone who met him -- and in this book he'll make an unforgettable impression on you. Martinetti was, by the way, the first to address the issue of Dean's complex sexuality.

Teen rebel becomes marketing maven
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-28
A smart, lively book about the morphing of a 1950s teen rebel figure into a star of international marketing. Springer uses films, poems, web sites, advertising, and small-town parades in an intelligent analysis of popular culture that reads like a novel. James Dean, the sullen Hollywood icon who excited Eisenhower era teenagers, became an ambiguous and provocative icon that spawned protest Disney movies ("The Love Bug"), explorations of sex and car wrecks ("Crash") contemporary teen rebels ("Boys Don't Cry") post-colonial ("Touki-Bouki" and "La Haine")post-human ("The Matrix) and virtual representations. This groundbreaking work is fun to read as well as astonishingly informative.
