I enjoyed reading this book because it is very concise and clear on the major points of Christian History. This is could even be a good book for a first year Seminarin to read. It does not however deal with African American contributions to the American religion culture or church history and no mention of major black theologians. This is a glaring oversight and one can't help but think intended. Overall it was an excellent read.

I read Follow Your Bliss by Dean Hinmon and loved it. Because I've always had a special fondness for George Burns I bought this book and was amazed at how George Burns really comes alive through the pages. I swear, he is telling most of the story himself! Through the author!!! The story keeps you guessing all the way through on what is going to happen, HOW and WHY is George really there with Dean Hinmon as he performs his show An Evening with George Burns, travelling through town and cities in the US. Hinmon himself is surprised and bewildered at the actual presence of George but becomes comfortable with him and the conversations and HUMOR flows like magic between the two of them from that point on. I found myself laughing out loud through so much of it! And what makes the book extra special is the message of how we can each make our life what we want it to be, with George talking about his rags to riches experiences, and along with that you can really sense and feel the love and compassion he has for all people. What a great man. Highly recommended!!!!

This book literally changed our lives! It gave us an insight into our 13 year old son, which we would have never have been able to arrive at alone. I purchased 4 books on this subject and read them all. The other three were pretty much psycho babble....stating the obvious and not offering any real solutions. While this book doesn't promise any quick fixes, it does give you some tools, suggestions and, most of all, support. It feels so good to know that your kid isn't the only one. That they aren't underachieving because they are lazy or just don't care. Now, I see that it's just not that simple. It give you a different perspective, from which to see your child and changes your approach on how to deal with issues....especially when you are a Type A overachieving Mom. Parents, arm yourself with the insights that this book brings. You will be a better advocate for your child as you deal with teachers and administrators.

Morrissey has a wonderful style. He goes back to the tin metal and a chipped paint look of WW1. It's a unique style and we often use it in our paintings. Hope he has other book up and coming in 2007. :D

Crow Indian Photographer: The Work of Richard Throssel

A beautiful book for historians and photography buffs alike.

Richard Throssel was a Cree Indian, adopted by the Crow. He was also a trained commercial photographer who worked with some of the best in the profession at the time. This book serves as a brief biography and a compilation of his photos of Plains Indians-mostly Crow and Cheyenne.

Those interested in the study of Plains Indian culture will enjoy Peggy Albright's well-written text and the way she incorporates the photos into her brief biography of Throssel. While those interested in the art of photography can simply skip to the section containing the photos and read the comments by people she interviewed while working on the book. Some, for example, are descendents who helped identify and give background on people in the photographs.

This is not your typical collection of portraits of dour "chiefs." Included here are portraits of many different people- some better known than others-including women and children. There are also photographs of ceremonies that were actually being performed illegally at the time, as well as posed compositions lke "The Three Scouts," riding amongst the markers at The Little Bighorn Battlefield.

My only regret is that I purchased this book in paperback. I certainly hope it will withstand all the many times I, and others will leaf through it.

Excellent explanation and recommendations for relief

As a certified massage therapist, I work on many people with this "CRS." The authors' suggestions for exercise are what I've seen recommended by the physical therapist I work with, and I've seen results. Of course, massage is very beneficial, and I was glad to see it was also recommended to provide some pain relief. The only way to truly beat the chronic pain cycle is through good posture and strengthening/stretching, and the authors do a good job of providing effective, easy to perform exercises. There is a way to gain relief from this chronic problem...it may require a little work on the part of the sufferer, but follow the suggestions given in the book, and you may soon be pain free. I've seen it work. I plan on giving this book to all my favorite clients for Christmas.

What a nice surprise

I was lucky enough to stumble across this book and because I grew up in a small town thought I might check it out. Crystal Clear was a delightful book and one I really enjoyed. The story of people in a small town was very cozy and comfortable. Yet the author did a good job of keeping me interested and flipping the pages. I have read most of Jan Karon's Mitford books and while not quite as polished a work, Crystal Clear was certainly just as entertaining and the characters were more believable.

I can't believe I haven't seen this book before now. I saw it cited in a journal article and was surprised that I didn't know anything about it. This collection of new essays has top scholars in cultural studies and political theory at the very best. The essay by Lauren Berlant on pain and privacy extends her work on intimacy. George Lipsitz's account of political actions in the 30s is an important corrective of dismissive, naive readings of American history. Aida Hozic gives a compelling account of material conditions for mediating the conflict in Bosnia. Kathleen Stewart's account of conspiracy thinking is haunting and poignant. This book really deserves much more attention!
