I throughly enjoyed this book.!!!! It starts off fast and continues to engage throughout; with a "southern" style. If Jeff Foxworthy wrote a ghost fighting action hero, it would read like this book. The Razor character is my favorite.... The authors end the book with an ending that took me by surprize. Congrats, I loved it and can't wait to read the next one in the Bayou Savage series. I highly recommend the read, fast, light, and humorous!

Expert economists Jared Bernstein and Dean Baker present The Benefits of Full Employment: When Markets Work for People, a thoughtful look at the prosperity that came with the 1990s employment boom. That era revealed that full employment and stable prices could successfully coexist; incomes rose while poverty, welfare rolls, and crime rates fell. Though the full employment of the 1990s ended when the business cycle subsided, The Benefits of Full Employment persuasively argues that the advantages of full employment make it a condition worth striving to attain permanently through national policy. First published in 2003, The Benefits of Full Employment remains as insightful and well-reasoned today as it was four years ago.

Must Reading for Serious Horseplayers
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-09
This book is a must read for anyone heading to the
track. I have been a regular reader of Dean's columns
at Horseplayer Magazine and TVG's online newsletter
for almost five years. He shows you how to tackle
time and money management, both of which are seldom
dealt with in other racing books. Everyone can pick a
couple winners each day, but hardly anyone wins money
on that alone. This books helps you do the preparation
for the day's events and how to do smart decision
making right up to the start of each race. Daily and
annual money management are also covered--again,
realities of betting most authors don't deal with. The
tools tactics and philosophy shared makes this book a
definate for those that want a fresh perspective on
betting!

basis and overall management over the course of the
year are critical to success as a handicapper.
- Arnold emphasizes the importance of time management
to a handicapper. This includes both preparation for
the day's events and decision making right up to the
start of each race.
- Provide big picture statistics in racing that will
lead to new and fresh perspectives.
- Present handicapping tools, tactics and concepts
that will alter how you look at races.
- Show how all of these concepts are combined into a
sensible strategy that can be tailored to satisfy any
bettor's individual approach to handicapping.

Seminal Dean Ing
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-25
Let's face it, Dean Ing has invented a whole gendre unto himself. I call it "tech fiction". Very few other authors have the scientific grasp on their subjects that Ing does. I've been reading him since his Bela T-9000 days in Omni magizine, and he just keeps getting better and better.

Big Lifters is not only an incredibly good read (Certainly my most favorite Dean Ing book), it's an *important* read too.

He has some really important things to say about the politics of big-rigs, and the problems they present to society.

The big sign hanging in the main characters house that says "When you share the path with an elephant and EITHER of you stumble... YOU lose!" is so telling.

Ing's vision of the solutions and their effect on the various cabals and cartels make it one of those books that I keep several copies of, and loan out to friends and family.

An extremely entertaining, and very important work. Classic Ing.

The bible for aging bio-markers
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-17
Dr Dean is one of the world's leading physicians in the new field of anti-aging medicine. One of the most important markers to determine how fast or indeed how slowly someone is aging is being determined through the use of clinical tests which include assays of blood, urine, hair etc., but also other markers such as memory tests, reaction times and skin thickness/ bone density etc. For the first time it is possible to determine someones "biological age" instead of just their chronological age. Dr. Dean explores all these avenues in this book, it explains in detail how to accomplish these tests and frankly should be on every doctor's shelf who has an interest in this "ultimate form of preventative medicine."

A Great Read for Teen Men
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.
Review Date: 2005-03-14
Parents of boys interested in sports and thinking manliness and Godliness don't mix, owe it to their sons to introduce them to the life of Pier Giorgio Frassati. Though a continent and a century removed, Pier Giorgio shared the same idealism, problems and interests as our own young people. His teenage years were interupted by World War I; his parents didn't understand him; he struggled with his studies. He loved to climb and ski and hike the mountains of Italy and sports were his passion. But his greater passions were the love of God as expressed in his daily attendance at Mass and all-night Adoration, and his special love of, and personal sacrifices for, the poor. At his death, at the age of 24, he was personally, finacially responsible for 120 poor families. No wonder, Pope John Paul II called him the "Man of the Beatitudes". His life is an incredible read for any young man.

true story that grips you and will not let go
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.

one of the truly engaging aspects of this work is the day by day account of the shipwreak. By seperating the sequence of events in this manner, the author makes it easy for the reader to read what is in all other regards a sad yet human story. Excellent
