The Unabridged James Dean is one of the few truly indispensable books on the Hoosier genius. In fact, it's the gold standard on the subject.

I throughly recomend The Unabridged James Dean By Randall Riese!! It is an exhaustively researched and well compiled reference on Dean's short but facinating life. I was particularly impressed with the inclusion of many rare and interesting photographs as well as Riese's research into JD's television appearances. Often people forget or don't even realise that James Dean has left us with not only three remarkable film performances but also some excellent Television ones. A must have for fans!

The final battle is about to commence!

Lokith returns for revenge against Bloodsong and Guthrun. He is to pave the way for the Goddess of Death, Hel, to overtake the Earth.

By the sides of Bloodsong and Guthrun, remain the Freya-Witch (Huld), the shape-shifting Berserkers, and some ex-slave/warriors. However, to win this final battle Bloodsong must accept her shape-shifting abilities, just as Guthrun must risk using the newly awakened Hel-power within herself, without losing their true selves. ONLY THEN could they reach the lair of an ancient army that waits for Bloodsong to awaken them. Then they would have the chance to send Hel back to Hell!

*** An awesome conclusion to an extra ordinary trilogy! These books are "Keepers" to be read many times over! Author, C. Dean Andersson, has proven his skill for weaving magical stories of unforgettable characters. Highly recommended! ***

The Queen of Death, Hel, instructed the Hel-Witch, Thokk, and the ghoulish Death Riders to kidnap Bloodsong's daughter, Guthrun. Guthrun was nearing puberty. Thokk was to awaken the Hel-magic that was sleeping deep within the teen and use her special blood to grant life to Lokith.

Lokith had once been Thorbjorn, Bloodsong's son, who had been tortured to death as a child. Thokk had helped his corpse mature. Hel had given him power beyond imagination. The only way Bloodsong could defeat Hel was to acquire the help of a God (Odin) and some shape-shifting Berserkers.

*** Mother and daughter fight together in THIS one. Both of them change in ways for the better AND for the worst. I hated to see this book end because it means that only one remains to be read. This trilogy is the best of the best in Fantasy! ***

Make room on your "Keeper" shelf for this one

Review Date: 2003-03-15
The Death Goddess, Hel, had sent several Hel-warriors to slay the traitor King Nidhug over the centuries. None had succeeded. Nidhug was not only a king, but also a warrior and sorcerer. He used a War Skull to stay alive and sacrificed many slave women for the power. However, everyone knows that even if it takes forever, "Hel laughs last".

She was Bloodsong. She had been a fighter/slave in King Nidhug's arena and had led the other slaves in a mighty rebellion for freedom. Eventually Nidhug found her and forced her to watch as he killed her husband and son. He had then left her to die with her unborn child, never thinking that Hel would use her in the forth-coming battle.

Bloodsong had made a deal with Hel. She would kill King Nidhug and regain the War Skull. In return, Hel would free Bloodsong and Guthrun (the baby that had died when Bloodsong had) to live a normal life. With the aid of a witch and two former arena slaves, the biggest magical battle was about to be fought and the battle cry will be heard again! "Bloodsong and Freedom!"

*** Fans of Red Sonya, Raven, Xena, and other MUST have this one! This book is the first of a trilogy that was once released under his pen name of "Asa Drake". All three even have Boris's fabulous work on the front!

I cannot stress enough for everyone to read these! I can hardly wait to begin book two: Warrior Rebel Of Hel!

A MUST to read!

This is my favorite book of all time. I never liked to read until a friend read one paragraph in this book to me one day and I was hooked. I had to read this book. I read Watchers and I have been an avid reader ever since--that was 1984. The plot was exciting and I took it to bed with me for two nights and stayed up very late reading it until I had finished it. I great read, entertaining, fun, one of Koontz's early books and one of his better written books. I must read if you are a Koontz fan!

"Watchers" is a great story to be read.
Dean Koontz has a superlative genius for depicting scenes with constant and subtle increase of tension. With very tiny elements, a normal engagement, turns into a hair-raising situation.

The dog-human relationship is very dearly and shows a deep penetration of the author on canine psyche. Every dog-lover person will be seduced by the mutated Golden Retriever that is righteously named "Einstein".

Even the hideous "Outsider" has its attractive traits.

It looks like every reader will be satisfied the book contains romance, horror, adventure, fantasy, thrill, monster, wonder-dog, psycho-killer, dogged cop, whatever. The whole story is very neatly tied up and keep you running chapter after chapter until the end.

It is a book that may be enjoyed by thrillers fans and general public too.

A FIERY DISCOVERY ....

This book kept me on my feet and last breath.. read it over and over... sure over 20 times and still want to read it again.. I had a copy but when I left University I gave it to a friend as a token of luck.... It's a book I never stopped reading except daytime.. but the images in the the book stayed with me all day and could not wait for night to come... the only way I found connection with it was reading it at night... every detail became very alive infront of my eyes.. I felt like and still feel like I belonged in that world... I have read many books but this one is one of the masterpieces that captured my heart...it became part of me.. the plot is brilliantly set out and the unfolding of events kept on moving.. there was no moment of missing a clue.. the mystery, the thriller, the suspense, the relationship of characters just became a real world that we all live in.... it was as if, if I had to walk out of that door, then I will be engulfed in that world... this has been a fiery discovery of Mr. Dean Koontz's works. I have recommended the book to both my life partner and friends.... read it.. you will never be disappointed.... it's great!!!!

I am not much of a reader, but Watchers was a book I could not put down. The suspense never stops. This book is impossible not to read because the plot is very exciting and interesting. The characters are very believable. Another reason this book is so awesome is that this book gets you so involved that it seems like everything could really happen.
I love the way that Dean Koontz describes the emotions of both animals and humans. The whole book is a maze of adventures that leads you to one horrifying discovery. That has to end with the death of someone. In this book something is trying to kill Travis Cornell (the main character) and a genetically engineered dog that he found. The creature that is trying to get them has no mercy, so Travis has no mercy for it, but at the end Dean actually makes you pity the mounstrous animal. Read this book and you will love it.

Watchers is a great story. I bought this item for my wife so she could read it on our vacation. She needed larger print than the paperback version so I found this hardback on Amazon. When the book arrived, it was a paperback that someone had converted into a hardback by changing the cover.
I was dissapointed with the purchase.

Writing at its best

Dean Hughes is the best. He has the talent of writing a story that immediately brings you into the thick of it. This is a series of WW2 novels, with 5 volumes being in the first series. You feel for what this family is going through as they try and cope with World War 2. Best of all, they are "clean" books. None of the smut and dirty language. Dean doesn't need any of that. He writes a great story!!!. I recommend this series plus his follow up series Hearts of the Children another great 5 volumes.

In the fourth installment of the Children of the Promise series, Hughes takes us deeper into the wartime lives of Alex, Wally and Bobbi. Alex faces time as a prisoner, Wally continues in the unspeakable horror known as the Japanese P.O.W. camps and Bobbi struggles to keep her relationship with Richard alive as wounded soldiers pour in from the South Pacific theater. The reader is drawn so deeply into the lives of these characters they almost seem like family. Hughes, once again, has brilliantly triumphed in continuing to keep us so tuned in to the Thomases.
