A Truly Great Find!Review Date: 2004-10-21
An unusual approach to help solve the mystery of James DeanReview Date: 2004-07-13
It seems that the more time goes on, the more questions there are about this talented misunderstood genius and cultural icon. Certainly the passing of time has not dulled the star of one of Hollywood's brightest illuminaries who died tragically in 1955 on a lonely road in the middle of nowhere.
The Senates' approach in the mystery of Dean comes from a metaphysical query which even includes
a ghostly encounter and question and answer session with James Dean by Debbie Senate. There are plenty of hints in the book
that might give suggestible answers from the "Great Beyond" -- and the reader can conclude for his or herself which are or
maybe not relevant.
Whatever, this book is quite different from I have read out there on Dean.
Debbie Senate obviously is a very talented psychic, as she states in the book that she has never read any books about the hours preceeding the death of Dean--but certainly from what has been written in this book, she expounds on many details that have been recorded in other works, but with a different twist. It is almost like she was actually there many years ago.
The book is a "must have" for any person interested in James Dean. The dirt from the crash site is an interesting touch, and the reader is given instructions on how to conduct their own "psychic investigation" using psychometry into the James Dean mystique.

Lead on...Review Date: 2006-02-09
This book on psychology for leaders is not a typical rah-rah work of motivation - there are many such books available for both personal motivation as well as motivational strategy manuals (I believe that Zig Ziglar was one of the first such authors I read in that regard; Tony Robbins is perhaps one of the better known motivational speakers around today). While this book will give some insight into how such motivational work succeeds, this book concentrates on giving an understanding of the underlying psychological forces that motivate people in a much deeper way. Conflict management is also high on the list of topics here, for little can sap the motivational energies of people than can unhealthy conflict; on the other hand, healthy competition can often promote motivation.
Beyond the theory, however, this book gives practical suggestions for applying the ideas that come from psychological understanding. It is all well and good to say that trust is important or that listening is crucial, but how do these get presented in a practical way? 'Knowing an idea does not mean that the idea automatically gets translated into action; believing that you should be empathetic does not mean that you are empathetic. This book was written to help leaders build on, extend, and refine their ideas and to encourage discussion and application'.
Unlike many volumes in the Portable MBA series, this one is primarily the work of two authors, rather than an editor or two with a number of contributors. The authors, Dean Tjosvold and Mary Tjosvold, have both academic and professional experience, and do a good job at explaining things in terms that the non-professional can understanding. Anyone with a basic undergraduate background should find this volume accessible, and indeed motivational in many parts.
This book is a good one for the new manager, the manager-to-be (or manager-wanna-be), or the established and experienced leader looking for new insight and ideas.
Finally, the book I neededReview Date: 2004-10-25

Important--and fun!Review Date: 2003-02-23
Some readers might disagree with Dean that the public doesn't exist. But all will love her discussions of the "priceless" and "1984" ads, movies, conspiracy theory, Bill Gates, etc. Also, her thorough and clear explanations of the work of Slavoj Zizek make the book really useful.

A Must-ReadReview Date: 2006-07-06
Mr. Anders' father summarized my reactions well in his foreward. The book should be required reading for everyone and serve as a wake-up call for those who are still enamored of the Bush administration.
Being ever-hopeful, I hope this nation follows at least some of what Mr. Anders recommends as a path to recovery.
Insightful, passionate portrait of America's crossroadsReview Date: 2006-07-04
The second part of the book talks of personal philosophical approaches and practical solutions that can effectively counter America's social/cultural/filial decline. As a family man he brings personal observation, pain and passion into this discussion, making a very good case for a return to family values that are not conservative Christian, but wise, omni-spiritual and psychological guidance. As an internationalist, he reaches into global relations that impact us on a daily basis, and asks that we rethink the assumptions accrued upon us through biased media or opinion pundits.

HILARIOUS STRIP THAT HITS CLOSE TO HOMEReview Date: 2005-09-10
Throughout the daily black & white strips and color strip on Sundays, the trio, when their not engaged in the above activities, have an assortment of adventures such as going camping...where Dave goes through withdraw symptoms due to being away from his laptop. There's also a hilarious romp back in time to France with a time machine built from old hard drive parts. Greg suffers through "transmission errors" due to his time pod being built out of Maxtor drives. Now that's a pretty deep in-joke but if you're familiar with Maxtor it's just about right on the button. There's a number of other hilarious diversion in the book such as Greg's ridiculous lemon of a Volvo, dealing with tech support, and his quest to find an original NES game system.
Since these cartoons are five years old now, a lot of the subject matter, especially as related to technology is outdated. But that's where the real fun of the strip comes in. You not only get a year full of strips, but much like a DVD, you get the creator's commentary. Greg Dean provides commentary on each and every strip of the Real Life, sharing his thoughts on the creative process, anecdotes about the real life incidents the strips were based upon, as well as taking some humorous jabs at himself for his writing or drawing style, particularly in the very early strips. This commentary helps you look at the book in a whole new light. Bear's self-deprecating comments are a scream...especially when you know darn well he could be talking about you! Dean used Adobe Illustrator to make his strip and the result is a simplistic, yet very clean cartooning style that makes good use of his character's expressions.
Real Life is a quality comic strip and very funny. It's subject matter may have a somewhat limited appeal, at least in these early days but it's extremely well done.

The best book on relationshipsReview Date: 2005-09-13
Without any doubt this is the book that helped me the most in my early twenties when I was wrestling to find out what godly and good relationships look like. Reading this book helped me see that the main thing for ALL of us is to have our relationship with God in order! When I'm whole and fulfilled in God, then, and only then(!), am I ready to enter into a relationship with another person.
Far too many relationships and marriages for Christians (and non-Christians!) consist of two lonely people trying to suck out a sense of purpose and love from the other person. Shermans points out that we were always meant to get our true sense of purpose and love from God, not our spouse or any other human being.
There is no way that any spouse (how wonderful he or she may be) can fulfill your deepest desires. There is a God-shaped hole in all of us, and only God can fill that. A beautiful relationship comes when two whole persons (in God!) come together and form a strong union with God as a natural center.
The book is brilliant, and it's obvious that it helps a lot that Sherman didn't meet his wife when he was 16 or so. He met her when he was 28, and it adds a lot of strength to the book that Sherman knows firsthand how it is to be single and to feel desperate for a spouse.
Five thumbs up for this beautiful book that I keep buying and giving away to people!
