Children of the promise series

Our family read this series. We thoroughly enoyed this series.
I felt like the author took us in with the family and we became apart of their family. It was like being with them when Bro. Thomas had to let his children grow up and make their mistakes.
We hurt for them when they hurt. When they were seperated by war and his mission. Gene's captivity in the war and all he went through. To find out he was still alive was such a relief.
I was so excited to find out Mr. Hughes started his new series.
I just ordered Vol. #1 today. I can't wait for it to arrive.

I loved this book! The charactors seem so real, and I learned a bunch of stuff about the 60's I didn't know before. If you like historical fiction, romance, and action, this is the book for you. I would recomend it to any teen looking for a good book.

Best Guide to Hikes Throughout Alaska
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-12
This is a great book with a great mix of hikes throughout the state. There is good balance of short and long as well as easy and more challenging hikes. It does not try to be exhaustive in its coverage, but gives you enough ideas to occupy your time in any area of the state. It should be useful to either a once in a lifetime tourists or a resident who has an opportunity to hike the different regions of the state.

This was a great book in its first edition, this second edition takes a good design and makes it near perfect. The hike maps are superb, most hikes have elevation profiles, great reviews as well as all the important info you could need - distances, fees, maps, difficulty ratings...

I've read a lot of Alaska hiking books and this one stands out as a state-wide guide for finding hikes to take. It is not the strongest guide to equipment or technique. But if you want a book to give you great suggestions for hikes, pick this one up.

Great Hiking Book

My boyfriend and I purchased this book before our trip to Alaska and it was great. It provided very specific directions to various hikes and accurate descriptions as to the conditions of each trail and their overall difficulty. We only did 3 hikes in this book, but plan on using it when we return to Alaska...hopefully in the next year! The waterproof cover is an added bonus.

Note: The book does NOT cover Denali, other than the few trails around the national park entrance.

This is a comprehensive and necessary resource for those interested in learning about this major American china manufacturer. It only adds to my appreciation of HL's vast array of products over the decades, and makes my own small collection all the more valuable to me.

Great book, well organized

I've recently become fascinated with dinnerware from the mid-twentieth centurty and have collected many individual pieces manufactured by Homer Laughlin. This book allowed me to identify the patterns and shapes of these pieces, as well as the dates they were manufactured.

Attractive collection of daily readings from Bonhoeffer
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-03-31
This is a very attractively-presented collection of daily readings from the writings of German Theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Loosely following the Church's year and gathered from many of his writings, including those when he was imprisoned by the Nazis before his execution, they show how Bonhoeffer understood the meaning of discipleship and the importance of placing God at the centre of the believer's life. Biblical references are given to help the reader towards further study and, although generally fairly short passages for each day, there is plenty to think about. The book is US-published with American spelling but the translations of the original German read smoothly and fluidly apart from the Preface by Manfred Weber with its slightly clunky translation. This is an excellent collection and a great introduction to this important 20th century thinker.

A Bonhoeffer Treasury

This collection of writings of Bonhoeffer is a gem of daily meditations. Just when I think I know his writings something else comes along that opens that door even wider. His thoughts are timeless, and certainly as meaningful today as when they were written in Nazi Germany. These are not random thoughts, but rather group together topically which enhances their spiritual value.

Makes You Think

Review Date: 2008-05-20
Author Robert Benson did a terrific job writing on the topic of constant prayer. Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to pray without ceasing...or never stop praying. According to the author, our forefathers had a formal time of prayer every 3-4 hours, while maintaining a constant attitude of prayer. He suggest we follow their lead and structure our lives so that we can be in continuous contact with God on a daily basis. While it doesn't come natural to us, developing this discipline goes a long way to further our spiritual growth and relationship with God.

This is an excellent book. I highly recommend it.

I "inhaled" IN CONSTANT PRAYER my first time through, and now I'm rereading it, savoring every page. Already, it has completely changed my approach to and understanding of the sacredness of praying the daily office. I've just ordered three more copies to give away as gifts. Thank you, Robert, for the gift you have given us in this book. It is a treasure.

Excellent review guide for IH exam preparation. It is very concise, which helps to keep a large amount if information in recent memory. It also has some excellent review problems. The problems challenge your ability to think through them, which in the end gives you a better understanding of the principles behind them. Also a great review of toxicology. Of course this guide is meant to be used IN ADDITION TO other reference and study material.

I used this book to prepare for the CIH exam - I think its the best one out there. You do need other sources to prepare in depth - but this book helps give a guideline for what to study and a lot of trivia needed to pass the exam.

Structuring my knowledge on information

I have only read the first two chapters, but this book has already structured my own knowledge on information systems and benefits more than I could have asked for. At the moment I am working on an information analysis for a customer and I have been looking for ways to simplify the presentation of potential benefits in cost-displacement and value added to my customer - and Eureka! I have found it!

I recently finished reading Nicholas Carr's controversial "Does IT Matter?" (ISBN 1591394449). Carr's book make some valid points about the state of IT, but seemed to fall short when it came to describing how to rectify problems. This book, written nearly a decade earlier, does describe how to rectify the problems Carr cited. In fact, it is almost as though the authors wrote this book in anticipation of Carr's book!

Meyer and Boone clearly outline how to employ information technology to achieve competitive advantage. Their approach is based on value-added benefits, how to identify them, and how to implement the right systems to attain them.

This book comprises fifteen chapters divided into five parts. Part 1 introduces terms and definitions that will be used throughout the book, as well as the concept of value-added benefits. If you assume the information is too fundamental and skip this part you will probably approach the rest of the book with an imprecise understanding of terms and concepts. Part 2 is a collection of cases and ideas that address basic business processes, and how the value-added benefits are derived in each domain, which include: selling, marketing, operations, HR, finance, rolling out products, and negotiations. Each scenario is realistic and well developed. The conclusions, ideas and benefits are both realistic and compelling. There are no gaps in logic or required leaps of faith here.

Part 3 covers information tools at the executive/senior management level. Like the preceding chapters, this one provides context, key benefits, and an approach to attaining benefits. Also like the preceding chapters, this part of the book uses cases and examples from real life.

Up to this point the authors have proposed a concept and gave examples of how this concept can be applied, making a compelling case. In Part 4 the concept is transformed into an actionable implementation plan. There are four steps, (1) planning for strategic systems, performing a value-added needs assessment, measuring benefits, and adopting the value-added perspective. There is no consultant voodoo here - the steps are clearly articulated, reinforced with examples, and are supported with facts and numbers. Three of the four appendices expand this material by providing needs assessment and measurement interview guides, and expected values.

If you've read Carr's book cited above and are at a loss as to where to start resolving IT deficiencies, read this book. Next, visit the author's web site (paste the ASIN number, B0002EUOU0, in the search box on this page and select all products), and also explore the following other books by Mr. Meyer: "RoadMap: How to understand, diagnose, and fix your organization" (ISBN 0964163527), "The Building Blocks Approach to Organization Charts" (ISBN 1892606178), and "The Internal Economy: How to Apply Market Principles within Organizations to Make Sense of Budgeting, Rate-Setting, Project-Approval, and Accounting Processes" (ISBN 1892606186).

Students of Human paleoanthropology should look no further for complete synthesis of anatomical aspects that are proprietary to Hominids-because not only that full treatment is provided on such topics as diachronic trends in qualitative and quantitive development in anatomical features, but recapitulation that contains basic standards of anatomical reporting, complete terminology and also, with full recognition that one important propertes of locomotory system is in its mechanisms for body movement,so that this is not only descriptive work, but one that contains detailed account on anatomical pecularities of Human ancestors, thus providing non-analogues perspective on subject,in full recognition that it is sometimes wrong to accept uncriticaly paralels with modern Humans. Also, some histological aspects are mentioned. This book will provide students with full account on subject of evolutionary anatomy, perhaps one that could became most easily dull, descriptive work under some other concepts, but instead is excelently and logicaly organised textbook.
