This book was recommended to me by a very good friend. Not only is it a humorous read, but an eye-opening one. This book brilliantly deals with the reality of professional theater right from the mouths of professional actors. If you are in the business, this book exposes you to so many things that aren't taught in school. It's a must read. If you are a theatergoer, this book offers a rare look into the lives of performers. This book is such a great reality check that manages to also be inspiring.

i love this book so much. i read it over and over again, because it always inspires me and just gets me so excited thinking about what my future could possibly hold! This book has so many great stories, and some are so hilarious I am constantly laughing out loud while reading this book! Honestly!!
I read the book because it makes me feel comforted when I get an audition rejection...and it gives me a lot of hope. i love it so much, and it is a big book with a great number of stories...so definitely get this one! i wish they would publish a second book!!

On some nights, the theatre life is full of passion and wonder. However, many nights are spent in the hope of simply finding a job or landing a decent audition. Warts and all, this book is a must for anyone who loves a play or story. Enjoy and learn.

Today was a very good day. An ebay order of books arrived, complete
with a copy of this. Something I have been looking to buy for around 15
years, and finally considered this method. Could not believe it. Still
remember reading it, and the cover (Bantam edition with the green
armored pair looking out a cockpit windscreen). A great story or the
horrors of war, death and love, with something greater that has to be
overcome.

It is basically criminal that this is out of print.

I'd be interested to know if Peter F. Hamilton and Richard Morgan have read this, and if it influenced them.

Wolverton's book explores a futuristic world with a great deal more thought and human feeling than is common to the genre. The author's broad experience and philosophical leanings lend the prose greater intellectual weight, and the characters are believable and compelling. Highly recommended.

I read this novel after reading review by Orson Scott Card praising it highly. It is my favorite sci-fi novel of all time.
It is powerfully psychological,clearly influenced by Phillip K Dick, but it is also marvelous for its "hard" technical content, as well as very intellectual in the way the hero examines the moral questions of his world. Plot is also handled very well, with lots of violent action, and images which are simply unforgettable. How can this be a first novel? It is moving on every level and I consider it a masterpiece.

The other reviews have pretty much covered this book. It is five stars all the way. Its one of those books that you look back longingly on, almost fifteen years old now, I remember a day when I was much younger, and the world still exciting and new. Im sure you all have books that stay with you like that. It evokes great memories from a great time to be in college (early 90's). Anyway, the question is, will Dave Wolverton ever write a sequel? Will he ever write under his real name? Or write true sci-fi, not just star wars young adult trash? I sure hope he does. Dave, if you ever read this, please return to the world you created in "Paradise!"

This book is everything the "positive reviews" above say, and more. From the first page, until the last paragraph, to the last three words of that last page, this book will awe, inspire, and haunt you in ways few other books ever will. It is a work of science fiction genuis that has been totally over looked and neglected for far too long. And that is a shame. This book should have won Hugo and Nebula and Campbell. Sadly it did not, as the politics of the day in the Sci Fi community were decidedly "anti-war" in any way when it was on the shelves.

It is long past over do for a new printing, (but better cover plz)

Like one reviewer above, I found six copies of this book at a book store and I bought them all. And I proceeded to hand em out, along with A.A Attanasios Radix. What a good year for books that was. Paradise and Radix combined could ruin you for other books for years to come. It's impossible to top this kind of quality. But back to this book...

You are unlikely to find this books equal on any shelf today. The new Space Opera (my favorite) is sadly laced with affection for the Marxism that never happened (thank god) and the rest is now so PC and Left Wing, as to be nearly unreadable, or at best, as gray and boring as a crowd of people in Soviet Russias old days. (they all wore black or gray)

If you read only one Sci Fi book in the next year, make it this one. And keep your copy, for you will need to read again one day. No one reads this book just one time, in their life time. It's simply that damn good.

I wish Dave Wolverton would do this kind of book again, and do it well. Someone tell him he should.

I bought this book on a chance that I would like it. I was right. It is easy to use,great to make you think and lots of ideas to share with others. You cannot go wrong with this one.

I am an avid reader of the paranormal. I head a paranormal book of the month club due to my ever-expanding library. When I started reading this book, I found I couldn't put it down. It's very captivating and well written. It's not just about the Salem Witch Trials at all, which is scarcely talked about in this book. This book goes indepth about stories and tales you have never heard about before. I loved it! I highly recommend this book to any lover of the paranormal.

You can tell that this book is something special just by looking at the quirky artwork on the front cover. I must admit that I've never visited that part of the world before, but was surprised to find out that New England has such a rich history of folklore and creepy tales. I love the informative way in which all the stories are presented. They have depth and the author usually always offers a theory as to why the (mostly) supernatural events have occurred. My most favourite story in the collection was "Beyond the Dark Entry". It discusses the demise of a small hamlet by the name of Dudleytown. This story was genuinely creepy. I also loved "From the Mountains of Madness" which details some of the eerie experiences various people have had on the top of Mount Washington. Another thing I liked about this book was that even though some of the subject matter or folklore may have stretched the truth a little over the years, they never fall into the trap of being so far-fetched that you feel like you're being taken for a ride. This was a thoroughly entertaining book and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in this genre. I consider this to be one of my most favourite reads ever!!

Another collection of the incredibly bizarre and truly creepifying true tales of New England from Joe Citro. Not only are these tales so weird, so full of the Yankee spirit, so very scary, but Citro imbues them with the clever, dry-wit of the twinkle-eyed New England storyteller. This book was fantastic. Part of it might be that these places are very familiar to me and it isn't hard to imagine these weird, magical, creepy things occurring in the depths of old New England. Also, these tales are so absolutely bizarre that not even New England's best storytellers (from Nathaniel Hawthorne to Steven King) could have imagined them. I couldn't put this book down, and yet, I couldn't read it at night. Wonderful, scary, and fascinating collection. Grade: A+

What you'll love about this book is that Citro spins a good yarn. His storytelling style reads well, and your eyes effotlessly flow over the words. As for whether these stories are true, he includes some fantastically compelling reasons why they could possible be more than simple legend or folklore. Documentation, methodical investigations by qualified skeptics, law enforcement sightings, journalists, and witness-upon-witnesses, all shared in a non-overbearing fashion. He's not trying to prove anything, he's just tickling our thoughts -- and it works!

The stories themselves are either interesting, quirky, terrifying (or all of the above), and all of them -- I mean all of them -- are utterly unique. Just stuff you couldn't have made up on your own even if you were using hallucinogens!

If you're a skeptic it will challenge you. If you're a person of faith it will make you rethink your pre-assumed theologies. But ultimately this book succeeds because at its heart they're just well-told stories that will chill you to the bone and make you think at the same time.

From the title of this book, I was expecting mostly ghost stories. However, this book is unique in its genre, and I was very pleasantly surprised! Although this book has much legend and lore, of which I am not usually a fan, this author's ability as a raconteur quickly overcomes the boundaries of time. These tales are superbly told by a master at his game. Joseph Citro, in his own words, claims to be an "anthologizer." That is exactly what he does here, and he does it well.

The author's ability to narrate a captivating tale is the epitome of the classic New England story-teller, wry humor included. His prose breathes invigorating life into these stories, most of which are "off the beaten path." He will at times make you shiver, and at other times scratch your head. Gathered for your inspection are some of the most creepy, bizarre, and, in some cases, well-documented strange happenings from across the region. Joseph Citro has set himself apart as a top-notch investigator of odd history and unsolved mysteries, a true "Bard of the Bizarre." I am especially a fan of the stories about the sightings of the "Yankee Bigfoot." There were some pages I couldn't turn fast enough.

This collection peeks into lots of New England's nooks and crannies, and should be included in any ghost story, folklore, or mystery-filled library. These strange tales are engrossing, well varied, and unique. I would love to sit down with the author over a roaring campfire, late at night, with only the forest winds howling . . .

This book is awesome. It helped me to write my first book, "Lipstick Ghetto: The Girls' Guide to Escaping The 9-to-5 Rat Race." "Putting Your Passion Into Print" is an excellent resource for all writers (new and experienced). From getting the right idea for your book to selling it to publishers...this book is an invaluable tool. I have so many pages marked with "sticky notes"! Buy this book and you will learn how to be a successful writer.

I got an agent and a publisher for my book within 3 weeks of submitting the proposal - and not a single rejection letter! When would-be authors ask me for advice I send them to the store to buy Putting Your Passion Into Print! Bravo to the authors for a comprehsive guide to writing, publishing and marketing your book. Also helpful was "Write the Perfect Book Proposal" by Jeff Herman. These two books should be on every aspiring author's shelf. Scratch that. They should be on your bedside table....and in your hands.

This book is full of info for almost every aspect of publishing and finding a literary agent. It covers more subjects than any other book I read, but it could go into a little more detail with some of them.If the chapter on proposals and query letters had more examples, it would have been a little more helpful. Their was a lot of information on marketing and publicity. I'm overall very pleased with this book, I learned enough in it to consider it a good purchase, and it will be another one I refer to often.

It is an important part of a writer's personal collection. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get published along with Michael Larsen's "How to Get a Literary Agent", and "Give em What they Want" by Blythe Cameson for good examples of query letters.

These three books are a good start for the fiction writer.

I absolutely loved this book! Their step-by-step approach, quotes from other writers, agents, publishers, editors, booksellers, and librarians are very helpful. I don't know of any other book out there that packs in so many facts, useful tools, and poignant quotes from those in the industry who have the power to help you take your book to the top of the best-seller list or leave you out in the cold with an unedited, unappreciated manuscript destined for a drawer. All that, and it's funny besides. What more could you ask for (other than a ticket to one of their workshops which I have no doubt are a blast)?
I'm very glad I resisted the temptation to check this out of the library. It's too valuable a reference book not to have next to me as I work.

I think Spielberg's a genius. There, I've said it. He takes simple men, surely John Miller, Captain, 2nd Ranger Battalion is just that, a simple man, and paints a canvas of such detail of Armageddon, putting these simple men all over the painting. Hell. The end of the world. Good versus evil. Call it what you may. "I'm a history teacher," he says in the movie in one extraordinarily tense scene. "I teach history in a small high school in Pennsylvania. . . .when I'm done here I don't know if I can go back to it."

I'm reminded of another 'simple man' that came from Pennsylvania in novel lore. Lieutenant Harry Brubaker, the lawyer who flies F-9 Panther Jets in Michner's brief story about the carnage in Korea, 'Bridges at To Ko Ri.'

But the point is Spielberg tells us that they were all simple men and we don't believe him at first. We keep looking for Arnie Schwarznegger or Chuck Norris or The Rock. But they are and were normal guys, guys from Brooklyn New York and Brooklyn Michigan. Guys from towns you never heard of in Iowa, where Jimmy Ryan and his brothers came from. Just guys in the greatest carnage the world ever knew. And Spielberg shows us what they did. They changed the world.

The five Sullivan brothers all went down with their ship in the middle of the war and after that the powers that be would not commit one brother in a theater of combat where another brother was also serving in harm's way. So here, one of Jimmy Ryan's brothers is killed in the Pacific and one brother is killed in Anzio Beach. And Sean Ryan is killed in the landing at Omaha Beach. And Captain John Miller and a squad of men he picks are asked to find him to send him home.

A wonderful book to compliment a movie that should be preserved forever about an ubelievable body of men and women. "Was I a good man," asks James Ryan 50 years later? My Dad asked me the same question a few years ago. Five stars is not enough. Larry Scantlebury.

I think this story is a very good story it really shows how the war really whent. my favrit character in this story was mellish well i'v seen the movie and i think he is the cutest i also like capazo he was really cool i think uhpum was a bit of a wimp but apart from that i think it was really cool.If i was to give this movie/book a raiting out of 100 i would give it 100 becaust it is so good.

Saving Private Ryan and The Triumph and the Glory have sparked an interest in me about WWII. The novel isn't quite as good as the movie but anyway this book is a great behind the scenes look at the making of a terrific movie.

I have been wanting this book since it came out a year or so ago. It did NOT disappoint. There is so much in this book that doesn't come from the show. I remember writing a thesis on this show in college, stating that the website actually becomes a supplement to the show and by doing this, it actually pulls the viewer into the show, breaking the fourth wall. This book does that times two. Are the Sopranos based on actual people? Is it truth or fiction? By the time you get done reading this, you won't care. This is a must read.

A stellar examination of the past, present, and portents of "The Sopranos"! Wow! From the die-hard Soprano fans to all those interested schlumps, this book is the must-read needed on their bookself. An entertaining, voyeuristic, and compassionate look at the Sopranos' lives that mix reality and myth into a remarkable anthology of today's most famous mobster family. The show earned its Emmys and then some; the book compliments the show with its photos and commentary on what will become the most talked about series for years to come. In my opinion, there are only a handful of shows that truly deserve such an in-depth perspective as this one does- and this one hits the mark! Two enthusiastic thumbs up and a congratulations going toward the talented and witty writer, Allen Rucker, the only one who made this fantastic book possible for all Soprano aficionados to thoroughly enjoy. Rucker brings an unique standpoint to the Sopranos' family and lifestyle that I never knew existed. I hope he writes the next updated version! If not, "I have friends, you know!"

I loved this book. I poured over it so many times that I have just about worn it out. It has been like a Bible of sorts to me. Very interesting. Anyone who is a true Sopranoholic like I am will love this book. I just wish they would make an updated version of it. I am going to be so sorry to see the season end and just thinking about the series ending is too much for me to comprehend.

Think of this book as one big Soprano History/Dictionary/Vocabulary book and that is what you can expect. Worth every cent.

Great book to have if you are a die hard Soprano fan like myself. Gives you great insights on the Soprano family tree and it also gives Soprano fans a guide on things that you might have missed out on. Overall, a excellent book! Don't keep this book too far away when you're watching the show because it comes in handy

I'm a big Opera fan, and my grandmother bought me this book because she thought it was about great Italian singers. You can imagine my disappointment when I realized this book was about the characters from a TV show focusing on the Mafia. I don't have a TV, so I'd never seen the "Sopranos" show. Reading about something I had no knowledge of, or interest in, seemed dumb at first, but I had the book so I thought "What the heck! I'll read it". Once I started, I couldn't put it down. It is a very entertaining read, and I would recommend it to anyone, even people with no TVs like me, who enjoy a fun book. Highly Recommended! (Note: I have since seen the show at a friend's house, and frankly I must say I liked the book better than the progam.)

I met David Jebb in 9th grade. We were neighbors and surfing pals. As is too often the case, we lost touch until recently when we reconnected at the glider port in San Diego - we guessed it had been 40 years. We talked of old friends, too many no longer with us. David kindly presented me with an autographed copy of his book and said this would give me an idea of what he was doing for part of those 40 years.
I started reading on the plane trip home and finished the next day. It is a real page turner and projects insights into David's life, thoughts, questions and his journey. And what a journey it was! It is well written, concise and flows beautifully. A thoroughly enjoyable read. I am looking forward to his next book and staying connected with David.

The character Blue starts the tale of The Thirteenth Time Zone off with a bang. No literally - the familiar "bang-bang" of cops vs. crooks. You get to take a pause from the constant adventures of street officer Owen "Blue" Drew only after 50 or so pages into the book. At this point he begins his transformation from "street officer" into "peace officer." He leaves the force and sets off into the world - and what a world is waiting for him!

In reading this novel I found myself flying through the cop stuff (just not my thing, really) in order to get to the juicy "big picture" of the narrative - the search for self-discovery and the lessons learned in traveling. One of David's great strengths as a writer were his unique metaphors used throughout the book. Here are just a few that I relished:

"The Eros crashed ahead, taking on wave after wave and throwing back spray that hit my face like the snapping mane of a running horse." (P. 89)

"The problem was that every time the Eros fell on her side, bilge water gushed all over the galley. Paper plates and foam cups drifted around me like mocking reminders of what floating was supposed to mean." (P. 96)

"I closed my eyes and swayed back and forth like a cobra to the sound of the music." (P. 151)

Aside from his colorful descriptions of all that he sees and experiences in his spiritual quest, the novel is not without salacious sex scenes and sharp wit. Again, here are a few tidbits:

"Maybe it was the fact that she was offering herself to me the way someone might toss a Kleenex to a friend with a runny nose. Or perhaps it was the little detail of the boyfriend--but somehow, nothing felt right about this." (P. 134)

"I wondered what the brothers of the Benedictine Order would say about the idea of promiscuity as a path to Enlightenment." (P. 148)

I have no doubt that anyone who purchases this book will be done with it in one to two sittings because it is a true page-turner. Enjoy!

David Jebb, thorough his protagonist "Owen" (a successful young police officer who abandons his life) takes us inside the mind of a man making his personal pilgrimage across several continents in search of inner peace, understanding, and wholeness. Unknowingly Owen is continually surrendering himself to his environment and the strangers he must encounter to help him each day meet his basic needs for food, water, shelter and more. Not finding his answers, with each step he pushes himself deeper and deeper to the far corners of the earth and into his total dependency on others and his harsh environment for survival. Readers will sense that Owens ever increasing trust in mankind and his own ability to survive anything are driving him dangerously close to the precipice of life. Finally when Owen is extremely sick, exhausted, and as close to death as he can possibly take himself, his long sought after answers are revealed to him in a startling way. A must read for all, Jebbs literary style is completely open, intense, graphic, romantic, action packed, and riveting.

This is a great adventure novel. "Owen's," journey around the world in a life & death struggle for survival to find the meaning of life is filled with incredible courage, passion, & hope for mankind. It will stand the test of time.

San Diego police office Owen Drew considered his body as another piece of equipment to be used in the war against crime and he kept it in tip-top shape. This enabled him to perform his job superbly. His excellence did not go unnoticed by the upper echelon and one day after roll call, Drew was called into a private meeting with his captain, lieutenant and sergeant. After commending him on his arrest record, the captain asked him, "If you had the power to deal with the gangs in your sector, to handle them any way you like, what would you do?"

That question started one of the most exciting, and dangerous, times in Drew's life. Backed with the support of his superiors and fellow officers, with carte blanche to do what was necessary to clear out the gangs in San Diego's most crime-ridden streets, Drew launched his offensive, a modern day warrior, his horse a specially equipped Ford. Bypassing the street runners and middlemen, Drew set his sights on the leaders and the peddlers, figuring to break down their financial network and their leadership. Just how effectively he was doing his job was proved several months later when word was received that the gangs had pooled their money and placed a contract on Drew's head.

And all of this is only in the first fifty pages, setting us up for the real story being told, how a man of conscience, wanting only to do the best he can, to protect the weak and the underdog, can have his soul destroyed by the countless encounters with evil. So Drew takes a one-year sabbatical from the job, determined to find his lost soul, starting with a job as crewman on a sailing vessel. When the owner of the sailboat cuts the trip short, Drew continues his journey alone, hitchhiking and walking around the world, living in a commune, taking jobs as he finds them. The year's sabbatical stretches to two before Drew finally finds the inner peace he seeks at a small Swiss village and he realizes that his days as a San Diego police officer are over for good.

I really enjoyed "The Thirteenth Time Zone." In fact, I've even reread it. There are some minor typos that should be fixed, but not enough that they really bother you.

According to the powerful perspectives offered by this unique take on organizational development, a tribe is a group between 20 and 150 people. Tribes emerge from the language people use to describe themselves. Change the language, change the tribe. Executive coaches will love this resource.

The authors make the point that our first instinct to bring about change in organizations is often to tell people what to do differently. Such a strategy often enhances compliance, but reinforces a sense of powerlessness, and impedes change.

The authors describe five Tribal Stages (centers of gravity) that inform some groups.
1. About 2% of groups - "life sucks" Gangs of individuals who operate without social rules or values except absolute loyalty to the group.
2. 25% of groups- "my life sucks" passively antagonistic, quietly sarcastic and resigned. Seen it all before and watched it fail.
3. 49 % of tribes - "I'm great, and you're not." Knowledge is power. Winning is personal and based on "my" values.
4. 22% of group - "We're great, and they're not." "We" are greater than "me." The bigger the foe, the more powerful the tribe. Based on shared, "our" values. Leaders build the stage on which others perform.
5. 2% of groups - "life is great" Infinite potential of the group - not beat competitor, but make global impact. Based on "global" "resonant" values

Through language, leaders can move the group's center of gravity through progressive stages by focusing on the words people use and the types of relationships they form. Groups can't leap over a stage as they progress. Additionally, culling out `bad apples' is ineffective. If you fire the bottom 10% of performers, the people who remain redistribute to stages others leave.

The authors observe that people's language correlates to the specific tribal stage, nature and structure of their relationships. The book lays out strategies that coaches and leaders can employ to unlock greater productive potential.

To uncover someone's values, ask "What are you proud of?" and follow it up with three to five open-ended questions. Pride ties actions to values. For tribes at stage 2, ask "What ticks you off?" The tone of responses goes from passive to passionate as answers shift from chatter about the surface to their core values.

To progress a tribe to higher stages, the authors suggest finding values that unite and resonate with people in the group. Tribal leaders follow the core values of the tribe no matter what the cost. They keep looking for new ways to express the values. Authenticity is a key - avoid identifying values and then making decisions based on expediency. Such acting above the law disempowers the tribe.

As a coach, help clients set the noble cause by asking "For the sake of what?" Identifying values and establishing a noble cause is a process, not an event. It's more than printing values posters or inscribing a mission statement on employee badges. Instead, leaders talk about values, base decisions on them, and engage tribal members in discussions about what they mean. Most strategies are based on understanding of the external environment, not the highest aspirations of the tribe.

The authors identify five components of Tribal Strategy
1. Values - What we stand for
2. Noble cause - What we live for
3. Outcomes -What we want
4. Assets - What we have
5. Behavior - What we will do

Accountability - outcome vs. goal - a goal is off in the future, it implies a failure in the present. People are motivated by the goals in a crisis, but they lose their drive once the fire is out. An outcome is a present state of success. "We have already succeeded, and this is how it looks at this point in the process (succeeding now with an outcome)

The models and techniques offered by the authors have broad application for executive coaches and for leaders. Definitely well worth the read.

What an amazing book. Infact this is far more than a book it is a guide to creating and building great teams. Like all the best material, simple to understand and powerful in the way it insightfully helps you to see things for what they are.

I have worked in organisational design/business performance and HR for over 20 years and this is one of the most imformative and best books I have ever read. It has reinforced my long held views about the need to understand the dynamics of what makes for a great team. If you also ever wondered why you felt automatically part of some teams and others almost rejected you before you even got started, then this is a 'must read' book. I have become a raving fan and will enthusiatically introduce the concepts and methods, as I have the fortune and privalage, in my day to day work, to make a difference to the lives and work of the thousands of people I come into contact with.

There is a tidal wave of Leadership and How To's out there on the market. Having read most of the best sellers, this book stands out as one that will have a lasting effect on how Leaders and Managers think of their mission. I particularly enjoyed the development of the levels/stages of teams. The sought after level five is where history is made and teams see beyond their current task. When you get right down to it, it is about legacy. Are you enriching the lives of others or not? The authors cleverly use real life case studies that give us a guidepost on just how to make this a reality in our own lives and businesses.

I plan to keep this one close to my desk and refer back to it many times. It is an excellent teaching and coaching tool for developing effective teams.

I was initially put off by the title of this book, but once I started reading it i couldn't put it down. This is by far the best organizational behavior book I have ever come across and it literally changed the way I view my own company's culture, as well as those of our clients, and people I meet every day.

The book is easy to read, and summaries of the key ideas at the end of each chapter make it easy to review, retain concepts, and implement their suggestions. I recommend spacing out the book by reading a chapter a day over a few weeks so you have time to reflect on the book's concepts and really digest the material. I've recommended this book to all my co-workers, clients, colleagues, and partners at my firm. A must have!

Dave Logan and his team deliver poignant concepts in an easy to read and entertaining book that will quite likely change your perspective on your culture at work and also your personal life. It is a must read for those interested in increasing efficiency and enhancing relationships. The 5 stages approach make sense and the authors give clear recommendations on how you and your team can progress through the stages.

Don't let the title of the review throw you off. When I say "unusual," it usually means it in a good way. In the case of Varjak Paw, it is unusual because the story line is very cool, and the drawings are very, very weird and crazy. I loved this book, and if you liked the Warriors series, then Varjak Paw is a must-have for you.

This is a very good book, about Varjak Paw, a Mesopotamian Blue kitten who never has fit in with his snobby, self-centered family. One day a strange Gentleman with two black cats arrives and he seems to be dangerous. Varjak Paw is sent on a quest to find a dog to save his family. On the way he meets several other cats, some good, some bad, and he learns about the struggle to fend for yourself. He also learns the Way-a secret martial art for cats-from his ancestor Jalal in his dreams. The book is well written, with lively, detailed characters (Holly is my favorite :D) and an exciting plot. The only bad thing is that (spoiler! spoiler!) I don't understand what the Gentleman does to the cats that Vanish. Does he turn them into robots or stuff them or what? If you have read Warriors (my favorite book series-I love cats) I recommend this book, even though personally I like Warriors better. But Varjak Paw is great. Read it. And when you're done - read The Outlaw Varjak Paw!

When my grandaughter, Robyn, purchased this book for *me* with her own money, I had visions of creating a cassette for a virtual, long distance, bed-time read Unfortunately, after reading it, I think it is a bit too "dark" where it refers to the "vanishings" and the [mini-spoiler alert follows] taxiderm-esque feel to it.

Being sensitive, and a cat-lover herself, she still cries about her "lost" cat, Mork, and I think this would give her other scary thoughts about his fate.

It is a well-written, a "coming of age" adventure, and an easy read, which earns it 4 stars -- but the caution is what I wanted to speak to, and I hope it is taken with an appropriate grain of salt, among these raves. Thank you for including my .02 for free.

Varjak paw is a good book. It is good because it has a lot of emotion and action also all the charicters are cats! It is a good book if you like cats. It is kind of like the warriors series because it has a whole lot of action. I think it is a 5 star book.

One thing in the book that I liked was when Varjak had to catch the pidgeons it showed bravery because Varjak could have died.

This book was wonderful to read it was so cool, I liked it because the writter added a lot of details in this book. My best part was when varjak saved the other cats! I would love to read this book again, I thought this book was interesting to me because varjak has to save his family! I liked reading this book and I hope you will to!
