Generally field guides serve one purpose; to identify animals in the field. However it is a rare occurrence when one finds a field guide that is as useful to identify species as it is to educate. Bill Branch has written such a book about the reptiles of southern Africa. The author has provided informative sections on identifying and collecting reptiles, and on the vegetative habitats of southern Africa which determine the distributions of many species. In addition the book briefly covers the evolution and breeding biology of reptiles. The photographic plates are separate to the text and allow one to quickly scan the pages to identify the species of interest. The text section of each species covers distribution, breeding biology, taxonomy and interesting facts of relevance. Whether you are visiting southern Africa or a resident, this book will spur your interest in herpetology and allow you to identify reptiles with confidence.

This book actually made understanding Financial Accounting much easier than any other reference I've used. Current reference material, good examples, easy to follow. I refer to it often.

First Black Actors On The Great White Way tells the stories of the actors, critics and others involved in the production of Three Plays for a Negro Theater in the early 1900s, examining changing race relations and perceptions in light of both wartime and theater production of the times. An intriguing survey of black acting's changes in an early period of American rights issues just emerging.

I enjoyed using this textbook. The explanations were clear. Plus, the spiral binding made working out of the text easier. Selected answers are in the back of the book.

Though now over forty years old, this book remains a perfect starting point for an introduction to Calvinism. Though hardly an indepth study, authors David Steele and Curtis Thomas present exactly what the title states; THE FIVE POINTS OF CALVINISM: DEFINED, DEFENDED, DOCUMENTED. It's as simple as that.

One could fill a sizable library on the various treatises defining, defending and documenting Calvinism, but for a brief and concise examination, this is the perfect starting point. Calvinism is hardly limited to five points, but is often referred as Five Point Calvinism as a result of the comparison to the five points of Arminianism at the Synod of Dort. The book is broken into three parts. Part One gives a side by side comparison of the Five Points of Arminianism in contrast to the Five Points of Calvinism, as well as a brief history of each system of thought.

Part Two presents Biblical Support of the Five Points of Calvinism. Here the authors present depravity, election, atonement, efficacious grace and perseverance and each point is clearly defended with scripture. This is hardly an exhaustive Biblical study, but there is enough irrefutable evidence presented to definitively support the case for Calvinism.

Up to this point, the book has introduced and supported the subject on a basic and easily discernable level, making this volume an incomparable introduction, but Part Three extends that introduction into the realm of further study. Here the authors examine previous caseworks on the study of Calvinism, which will guide the reader to verify the claims of Calvinism. The books outlined are somewhat dated, but nonetheless critical to a more seminal understanding of the subject.

This all sounds like an incredible amount of work for a tiny booklet of only ninety-five pages, and it is, but this book doesn't stop there. In fact, I believe some of the most illuminating writing is to be found in the Appendix where the authors delve into an exegesis of the meaning of "foreknew" as found in Romans 8:29. The work here presents perhaps, the most substantial argument in support of Calvinism.

In summary, if you are seeking a basic introduction to Calvinism, for whatever reason, I believe this is one of the finest sources available. Not the most definitive by any means, but for a brief concise narrative that will shock you with how much information is to be gleaned from such a small volume, do not pass on this book.

You can also buy this book from the publisher and you will get both volumes for the $99.95 price that is advertised. The book is great if you grew up in Florida and were attending all the dances locally. It has great info on the bands that put out records and who went on to stardom nationally. A lot of hard work went into this book since I know some of the local Tampa and Jacksonville bands and some of the people that became national successes.

Ms. Curtis gives detailed information about what is was like to be a woman pilot in the British Air Transport Auxiliary during World War II. She tells much about where the women were based the types of aircraft they flew. The types of trips they flew and the danger that not only the women faced, but that all of the pilots of the ATA handled. It was interesting to read about what was going on in England with women pilots while the United States was putting off using women to ferry airplanes.
