A splendid introduction to the New Hampshire Seacoast Region
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-02
The book itself is a wonderful sampler and a good place to start one's explorations of the New Hampshire Seacoast region, which goes from the shores of Seabrook NH to the south, to the town of York Maine in the north - any town touching the shores of Great Bay and the Atlantic is mentioned here, not in extensive depth, but with more than enough detail to wet the appetite of readers interested in an overview of the region's rich historic heritage.

If you are a resident of the region, this book is a must for your collection.

great book with cross-over trials vert useful when testing equivalence
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-23
Stephen Senn is a great writer and an excellent applied statistician. He has written a number of excellent books related to the conduct of clinical trials. This is the second edition of the book and it is even an improvement of the first which was also excellent and often consulted! A nice thing about Senn with all of his books is that he does not shy away from controversy. He also is very careful in his presentation and he avoids common mistakes and points out the mistakes of others.

I recently got a deeper appreciation for this book when I had to design a crossover equivalence trial while I was employed at Auxilium about 10 months ago. Senn does a very thorough job of explaining the AB/BA design which although simpler than many of the others is commonly used. Most of the important concepts in cross-over designs such as the washout period and the within subject variability can be address in this simplest of cross-over designs. This book is an excellent reference for any statistician that gets involved in cross-over trials. It is clear concise and strong on concepts but also detailed enough to make the correct mathematics clear.

Cross-over trials have the advantage of potentially reducing variability since each subject acts as his own control. But to avoid confounding a washout period with the subject off treatment is required so that the effect of the earlier treatment is not influencing the results for the next treatment. Sometimes this constraint can make recruiting difficult and there can be other logistic issues that can make it infeasable.

visual aspects of rock and pop
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-12
This illustrated volume documents the visual dimensions of rock and pop music in the USA and UK - the bands that started at art school, images of pop musicians in paintings, sculptures, posters, photographs etc., collaborations between artists and rock groups (ed Warhol and the Velvet Underground, John and Yoko). There are also chapters on pop music videos and scratch videos. This was a pioneering book that is always in demand.

The author, a noted art critic and art historian, trained as a painter at the same art school as Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music.

Enjoy small projects? Like themes based on the alphabet. Want to create a picture using items starting with the letter "N"?
This cross stitch book is set up by the letters of the alphabet. All projects have been stitched (a big plus so you can see how they turn out). There are hundreds of ideas photographed which in turn offers you more ideas for future projects. There are also group pictures filled with a single letter themes. Not full of your standard "C" is for cat stuff- Some pretty unique offerings include: Monk, alarm clock, backpacker, and janitor! Happy Stitching!!

How many ways do I love this book
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-06
Although this book is at present out of print a friend managed to pick it up in England having borrowed mine. This truly is a superb cross-stitch resource. The alphabets are divided into various sections such as floral, antique, elegant, baby, kids etc. As with all The Better and Homes And Gardens imprint this is downright lavish in its use of colour and the size of charts. The alphabets are shown finished in myriad ways. It is all here, boxes, cushions, throws, towel borders, afgans and of course alphabet samplers. It is yet another book to make me wish to live and stitch for a thousand years. If I could only ever take one cross-stitch book to a desert island this with be a real contender.
