Bizarre Fantasy of World War I

Walter Owen created a gut-wrenching, dehumanizing fugue on modern warfare. Foreshadowing horrors to come, he envisions trainloads
of corpses gorging the slaughter houses with human remains to be turned into meat. The mass rallies, the hysteria, the utter
insanity of war overcome the read with dread. Appreciated by the literary crowd (e.g. Iain Sinclair) and horror fandom, reading
this book once is an remarkable achievement. Reading it twice is unthinkable. Perhaps if William Hope Hodgson had survived
World War I, there would be a comparable book. He didn't and there isn't.

... This book is a simple book, it doesn't have a lot of highly technical words that you have to have a BA or maybe a PhD
to understand. No the average Joe or Jane can pick up this book, read it, and realize how much God loves us, how much God
strives to open our eyes to the salvation and redemption he offers us by sending His Son to the Cross to die for us.
I would highly suggest that you the reader of this review get this book. It is not expensive, BUT it will give you so much help and ease whatever pains that you have inside. I know it has helped me with much of mine.

France is in crisis. A right-wing general with leanings towards neo-Nazism is calling on the French people to rise up against
immigrants. Rioting breaks out in cities, but is it really what it seems? Is someone engineering the crisis to change French
leadership? Then to top it all, the French President and his ministers are killed when their TGV train is firebombed on
a bridge and plunges into an abyss. Who can save France, and ultimately the stability of Europe? Rene Lasalle, head of French
counterespionage sends for Britain's best SIS agents Tweed, Paula Grey and international foreign correspondent Bob Newman,
along with trusty rifleman Marler. Can they stop the general in time before tanks roll on Paris armed with chemical artillery?
Who is the mysterious assassin Manteau, who is blackmailing the general into paying him extortionate sums for carrying out
orders? This book is a real page-turner! And of course, Tweed and his motley crew get to drink loads of wine and champagne
in between drawing their enemies out into the open and cheating death! This is what makes a Colin Forbes novel worthwhile.
Don't miss this one!

A well-documented look at the politics of national security

With a keen eye for historical significance, Kevin Hogan surveys the formation of the national security establishment in the
Truman and Eisenhower years. A balanced account, this treatment emphasizes the human factor in the arduous negotiations
and political conflicts which took place during the late 40's and 50's. A fresh look is taken at Truman, Eisenhower, and
the lesser players at the time: Herbert Hoover, Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey, and Sen. John F. Kennedy.
Those not thoroughly familiar with the events of the period will be moved at the story of the nation's top admirals in brazen
defiance of Pres. Truman, or the nervous collapse of Truman's beleaguered war secretary. Requires a moderate attention
span, but political buffs should enjoy it a great deal.

This novel tells the amazing story of two Americans who fight alongside the French Resistance during World War Two. It is
brilliantly crafted with intricate believable characters who confront the adversities of war with true human desires and frailties.
I have not read a true World War Two romance of this caliber since I finished my first reading of Winds of War and War and
Remembrance. Anyone purchasing this book will not be disappointed; in fact, I'd dare say that they will be delighted!

A Must Read for Anyone Interested in American History

This fascinating first-hand account describes life as a young Japanese-American boy imprisoned during WWII in the American
internment camps. This book covers Mr. Nakagawa's experiences of May 1942 through October 1945--from the first day of his
relocation to the last day of his imprisonment at age thirteen. Mr. Nakagawa writes about each camp where he and his family
were relocated: Pinedale, Tule Lake, and Heart Mountain. (The camp names alone are strangely surreal and somehow revealing
of this sad era in American history.)
Yet while the period itself is a sad one, Mr. Nakagawa's story, as told through the eyes of his childhood self, remains uplifting. The writing is impeccably clear and non-filtered; unlike many memoirs that lose themselves in nonessential meanderings, The Cross on Castle Rock focuses on the matter at hand--how a child copes in dire straits. Mr. Nakagawa is too graceful to dwell on the darker matters, instead focusing on the daily routines of camp life. This is what makes the story so heart wrenching.
The detail used to describe games he and other children played in the camps is amazing. "The Ring Game" and "Poison" are two marble games explained so well one can't help but feel you're there watching the children play.
The Cross on Castle Rock, however, is not all child's play. Mr. Nakagawa touches on the difficulties of camp life--family separations, property loss, and conflicts within the Japanese American Citizen's League (JACL). Sufficient background on Pearl Harbor, Executive Order 9066, President Roosevelt, General DeWitt, No-No Boys, agricultural competition in California, and the general climate of that period are provided so that we have the historical perspective to understand the significance of young George's experiences.
In short, this book is highly recommended for those studying American history, Asian-American history, the internment camps of Japanese Americans, or autobiographies in general. Readers are guaranteed an enriching experience that, like I, will want to share with others.

If you are the coach of your child's team or in charge of a basketball league, you must read this book. I have been coaching
my son's basketball team for 4 years and I wish I had this book in the beginning. It helps coaches and parents understand
what to expect from their kids at various ages and how to teach them the fundamentals of basketball and how to adjust the
training as the players get older, stronger, and more complete basketball players. This is an excellent resource.

Alexandra Harper is working on her Ph.D. in Spanish when an editor for Newsmakers Magazine, who had been at the college giving
a lecture, comes by the Spanish Department to visit an old friend. When he learns that Alex is doing her dissertation on the
famous author Camila Zavala he, and her departmental advisor, think it would be a good idea if she wrote an article on Ms.
Zavala for the magazine.
Unknown to anyone outside her family Alex had been corresponding with the author, but a year ago the letters stopped and Alex has also noticed that the author's last couple of books are written differently than Camilia's usual style. So she decides to go to Ecuador and interview the author in person and maybe even find out why she stopped writing.
However, when she gets there she is met by Vicente Serrano, the good looking son of a friend of her fathers. Vicente tells Alex he will help her find Camila, but in reality he does everything he possibly can to thwart her efforts. However the harder he tries to keep her from finding out the author's secret and her true identity, the harder Alex tries.
Ms. Denton is actually the pen name of two fine writers, Carolyn Hake and Jeanie Lambright. Together, these women have written a wonderful romance, full of both mystery and suspense. I was on tetherhooks, pins and needles and the edge of my seat right up till the last page of this delicious page turner. This is most definitely a five star romance that I know you'll love.

Nice little book, most of the content is very basic to common CT diagnoses. The best part of this book is the introductory
chapters to eash modality, esp MRI physics. Recommend for medical students.
