One of a Kind in its FieldReview Date: 2002-12-31
Cross explores all facets of bringing education to adults and bringing adults to education in plain simple and interesting language. She has incisive observations that go beyond a culling together of learning theory already out there. Listen to her sharp tongue and clear wit paving the way for the development of new education opportunities for adults, "There are explanations behind these apparent miscues, but the point is that only a dying and unimaginative industry would attempt to base its future on consumer demand. Consumers cannot respond beyond their experience; thus, responding to consumer demand usually means getting yesterday's answers to tomorrow's questions." This in response to adult education initiatives based only on consumer research feedback, she clearly hits the mark.
Though, the text was written in 1981 and is at risk of becoming somewhat dated in its empirical findings the observations and principles transcend time and are still relevant. I will be reading this book again in preparation for going back to school to up my education on education.

very descriptive account Review Date: 2005-07-27
It is very descriptive, so you can imagine yourself there, and feel yourself feeling and seeing the very same things as the author. (There are some drawings also he drew in the book of things he saw around him)
Very interesting

The persistent dreamReview Date: 1998-03-18
But the past is not lost. There are a few incidents, which remain with us today. One of these history-making events that are in the minds of all of us is the legacy of Amelia Earhart. She is with us because her dream and her story are eternal. Hers is the story of a hero. A woman venturing on a path that many of her male counterparts would never dare. But this book not only relates the heroic tale of this woman, but the dream she left us with. The dream of an existence that was not always cut and dry. Not just a Lawyer, or a accountant, or a housewife. We could be anything, if we reach for it, and feel it strongly enough in ourselves. And as her dream has persisted through the decades, so has her story, and her sprit.

It is designed to be both highly survivable (laminated both front and back) and EASY to read and do. Students use this in the Red Cross Adult CPR and AED Courses and then take it home to place it where they need it most -- their desks at work or in their home first aid kits! I like the concept, and so do many others who have taken the course.
This is a step-by-step guide and SIDE ONE has: Checking the Unconscious Adult; Conscious Choking (Heimlick Maneuver); Unconscious Cocking (Chest Thrusts); Rescue Breathing. SIDE TWO has: Adult CPR; Using an Automated External Difibrillator (AED); and CPR in Progress/Using an AED.
This Card is currently used in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR and AED Program courses at the Citizen-Responder level. The techniques are Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC) 2000-compliant.
No home, work, or recreational first aid kit should be without it!
