I'm not a die hard runner and I sure don't know everything about running. So I have questions. This book has been such an EASY reference when a questions pop up. I keep it next to my running log and probably refer to it at least 2 times a week. It gets a big thumbs up from me.

A recommended giftbook for running enthusiasts

St. Nektarios Done Justice

This book was given to me to read when I was first diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was reluctant at first (I am not a "reader"), but began what I thought would be trudgery out of a sense of duty to my godmother who gave me the book.

I became profoundly affected by this honorable man's life story, by his utter humility and selfless giving. His example still inspires me and I am grateful someone had the intiative to memorialize the true Nektarios. That he lived so recently to our own day makes him seem all the more tangible.

I regret this book has gone out of print. It is well written and brings this Saint's example into sharp relief.

This book will change your life!

A moving biography of a modern-day saint that will provide encouragement for all Christians. This work provides a detailed hagiography that will light the way for us that must live in this world. Also, the narrative was presented in an entertaining format.

Sam Hawkins books are always a must have to me. I cross stitch a lot as I don't get out too much, and find his books composed with care. They inspire you to add and subtract bits so they ' live' for ever as I have not found one I could not return to and get another idea from. Well laid out in easy to read formatt. Clearly explained from cover to cover. Unusuall designs also included. An all round good buy.

Answers the question what to do with cross stitch projects.

This is a great book. There are over 150 designs for all sorts of occasions. The designs are charted in color and are simple to use. For the most part the designs are small enough to stitch out in an afternoon if you are quick. The designs are great but even greater is the variety of ways the author shows you to use the designs. Two of the unsual uses were on the heads of stick pins for bulletin boards and designs sewn on gloves. I really am impressed with this book.

Samplers Through the Centuries

This book was produced to accompany the special exhibit of samplers at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts in the spring of 2000 and contains photographs of the samplers in the exhibition. Beginning with a brief history of samplers and with a sampler for every letter of the alphabet, it includes such treasures as a sampler fragment (1300) excavated in Egypt, a band sampler from Britain (mid 1600s), a Dutch darning sampler (1813), American pictorial samplers, exquisite Ayrshire work from Scotland and a splendid embroidered Mexican landscape sampler (see cover of book). For those who were unable to visit the exhibit, it is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a variety of samplers, from many countries, exquisitely stitched over a period of 500 years.

Marco Polo Times Two, and Fun Besides

I loved this true adventure story, written by two impossibly inquisitive academics who encounter China during an extended sojourn as teachers there. Janice (Moulton) and Robin (Robinson) move through this adventure like a contemporary Mr. and Mrs.Marco Polo. They know how to tell a story, well-paced, richly detailed, weaving their characters in and out of the exciting narrative. And what characters! Golden Zhou, Little Lin, Adjective Boy, and an interesting supporting cast of Westerners trying to deal with China and each other. As a long-ago Peace Corps Volunteer, I can say that Moulton and Robinson really reveal the drama and adventure of a deep cross-cultural encounter. "Scaling The Dragon" should be on a short-list of books to be read by Peace Corps Volunteers and other Americans preparing for an extended stay in another culture. Better yet, this book could be made into a great movie!

I found this beautiful little book by accident. Never having done counted cross stitch before, I was intrigued by the simple, elegant designs. What a refreshing change from bunnies and cartoon characters! I have completed five of the designs and probably wont't stop until I have done them all. Matted and framed, they are truly a work of art. Thank you, Inga Bergfeldt.

Great Sermon Reflections
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-06-02
This is a collection of Holy Week sermons from the Anglican Bishop of Durham, Tom Wright. There are nine sermons in all. The reflections start on Palm Sunday as Tom Wright deals with Matthew 21:33-46. Wright spends the next three sermons working his way through the parables and disputes found in Matthew 22 and wraps up with his sermons on Matthew by expounding Matthew 23:1-12. There are many interesting things that could be pointed out, but his handling of paying tribute to Ceasar was eye opening. For the Thursday night sermon (there were two sermons on Thursday) he switches from Matthew to John and betrayal, passover, and footwashing found in John 13:21-33. His Good Friday sermon comes from John 19 where Jesus is before Pilate being inspected. This is arguably, the best sermon of the week. He concludes with an Easter Vigil and Easter morning sermon. This book is brief, only 84 pages in length and some of that is title pages. It does not take very long to read straight through. It is worth the price however. If you have never read Tom Wright, you do not know what you are missing. This book is for everyone.

I am continually amazed by this author's insight and passion. Not to mention his fresh style and masterful handling of the New Testament. This book brought me an intense and dazzling new perspective on some of the parables of Jesus and several of the events of his passion. Highly Recommended. +Aaron Kunce

Review Date: 2005-03-07
The Twisted Cross is about a 14 year old boy named Orville Jacques who was aked to solve the mystery of who was creating Jewish hate crimes in his hometown, Belltown. He has to go undercover to investigate who is committing these rude and horrible crimes. What he discovers is nothing at all like what he expects. He thinks these crimes were committed by secretly by teens, but the people who are involved, he would have never expected.
Mystery books are great books to read and always get you stuck to the pages wanting to figure out what's going to happen next. That's why I encourage kids of all ages to read the Belltown mystery series, especially The Twisted Cross. I think this is a great book for all ages and teaches people a lot of life lessons. The events that go on in this book could actually happen, so you could learn alot of things to escape danger just like Orville had to do to save his life and many other people's lives too. I really enjoyed reading The Twisted Cross. As soon as I picked the book up I couldn't put it down, it was so fascinating!

The Secrets of the Twisted Cross: A classroom must

As a teacher I am always on the lookout for a good story to share with my class. My fifth graders are a thirsty bunch for mysteries so when a colleague told me about her friend T.M. Murphy I had to read one of his stories. Six stories later my class is now reading the Secrets of the Twisted Cross. This story finds our hero, Orville Jacques, trying to uncover a series of hate crimes against the Jewish population of his town. The story takes us through a lot of twists, turns, and false alarms until the mystery begins to unravel. This is a good story, mystery, and teacher. It makes us look at who we are, and how we relate with our neighbors. On top of that it is a real page turner. I can't wait to finish the story with my class. Hopefully Mr. Murphy is finishing number 7 so I can share the next Belltown Mystery with them.

Excellent running schedules for all levels and distances!

The second part of the series concentrates on shorter distances (800m to 5,000m/5miles). Along with general information and discussions the most useful part of the book are the practical day-by-day 10-week schedules. The schedules are very specific - depending on time goals, initial preparation and the distance. Excellent book!

The Definitive book on training

This book gives you everything you want and more! I followed this closely when I had a crummy track coach in high school and my times ended up being exactly at the race pace I was training for. I have used these workouts in coaching as well and have seen great success with them. A lot of the books that come out nowadays are just commentaries on runners--this one gives you the year-round training schedules you've been looking for.
