We purchased this book for our 8.5 year old son. He has enjoyed it. It brought to life a valuable figure of the Bible that he is familiar with. With both parents as designers, we appreciated the quality with which the drawings were created. It seems very hard to find religious-based books that are designed with intelligence, uniqueness and beauty. I just wish we could find more...

This comic was well-paced, beautifully drawn, and even made you think a little bit. The art made me think of Disney's Tarzan and was very appropriate as they had similar action scenes.

Lepp may take a few liberties as David fights the lion to protect the lamb to make the story more dramatic and to create a parallel, but that does not detract in any way from the Biblical accuracy of the comic. It only serves to enhance the story.

Overall, it was a very poignant story that gets at what made David's heart so good in God's eyes and what makes his fall later on even more tragic.

Hugh Morshead's book is the best guide I have found to building sturdy, affordable and safe cross country fences. He covers all aspects of cross-country riding and course building with well laid out chapters, good illustrations and lively text that is full of good advice. There is even a chapter on building fences and courses for Pony Clubbers! Most importantly Mr Morshead acknowledges the cost of construction, and offers well thought out designs that will maximize your dollar. If nothing else buy this book for the chapter: "Fences That Don't Work".

Early-Season Candidate for Baseball Book of the Year

Peter C. Bjarkman's "Diamonds Around the Globe" is the early-season candidate for baseball book of the year honors. It picks up where Total Baseball and other tomes leave off, and makes it clear that baseball is much more than just an American pastime
There are chapters on the game in Japan, Canada, Venezuela, Cuba and elsewhere. Bjarkman adds the history of baseball in Europe, the Pacific Rim countries and Africa.
"DAG" includes historical information on professional and amateur programs around the globe. Want to know the yearly champions of Belarus or San Marino? Or Korea's MVPs? It's all here, along with information on baseball in the Olympics and other global amateur competitions.
One of the most fascinating sections of the book is a timeline that includes a potpourri of baseball facts, feats and firsts - details of an 1857 game on Australia's Ballarat gold rush fields; the birth of professional teams in Cuba and Japan; and much more.
There's even an appendix that provides names and addresses of baseball federations around the world. Want the e-mail address for the Osterreichischer BaseballundSoftballverband (Austria)? A website for the Hrvatski Baseball Savez (Croatia)? Or the name of the current president of the Republic of Marshall Islands Baseball Federation (Danny Wase)? It's all here.

This book is fantastic. The directions are very easy to follow and the pieces look just like the ceramic building. It is a wonderful complement to your Heritage Village pieces. I can't wait to make a few pieces and frame them in my Dickens' room.

Zlotnik is one of the best descriptive writers to come out of the Vietnam War. He paints a word picture even the most inexperienced reader can visualize and the most experienced combat veteran will support. His attention to detail is superb and he always weaves in some kind of creature into his story that reappears in a dramatic manner.

He's good.

A Vietnam veteran himself, Zlotnik explores the devestating after-effects of war by following the military career of an idealistic and exceptionally talented teen. Exceptionally realistic and detailed prose. This story contains enough twists and sardonic humour to entertain, while revealing the dark horrors of war. A fabulous read!

This is a thought provoking book clear and concise scripturally sound. A book not solely based on what a man thinks but based on the word og God and backed by other authoritative books. One of the best books that I have read.

Why has this reality been kept secret for so long?

Finally, a well written credible account of the lineal descent of man, using direct quotes from the Bible! Thought provoking and enlightening...this is undeniably the best book I've read in a long time! The author's clear, concise style, combined with direct links to the actual biblical accounts, leaves the reader no room for further speculation! The book stresses the hows and why, so that readers acquire a genuine comprehension of the fundamental principles of the Bible. This manuscript should be required reading for seminary students and teachers alike. A book that undressed previous interpretations layer bay layer. I look forward to this author's next work!

Haunting and Lovely

The title story--about a dog nailed to a cross outside a church, presumably to discourage its members--is one of the most haunting and graceful stories I've read in years. But what I like most about this collection is how the author depicts the Southern Pentecostal experience, without irony or prejudice, to produce a deeply engrossing collection of stories in which sum of its parts is somehow more than the individual pieces.

Gwyn is one of the true descendents of Flannery O'Connor, with a little Larry Brown and Eudora Welty thrown into the mix. If you ever read with awe one of Flannery O'Connor's stories--such as "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" or "Good Country People"--you will not be disappointed in the least with Dog on the Cross.

Gwyn, one of the best.

With these stories Aaron Gwyn has tapped into something common in all of us. I read these short stories and was astonished by how original they were, taking the life of the Pentecostal and showing us something completely new, different. Each story takes you somewhere wholly unexpected. Gwyn is the O'Henry for our times. I'd recommend this book to any short story fan and those who really need to feel how strong a short story can hit you.

Down Santa Claus Lane is a gentle meander along the Victorian by-ways of yester-year, crammed with lush reditions of Father Christmas in various guises. The charts are drawn from old art work sources such as post-cards and Christmas cards. The use of colour is imaginative and trouble has been taken to find many styles. In this book Santa comes in red, yellow, green, blue, and brown. Something for everyone. There are thirty different charts, each one easy to read and the finished stitchery is displayed in numerous ways, from straight forward framed pictures to cushions, pillows, and stockings. There is even a chart dedicated to baby's first Christmas, surely no doting grandma could resist the urge to stitch that one? As this is an American book there are a few all American Santas. This is a truely super book, well up to the house standard of Leisure Arts and one of my particular treasures.

Grail Quest Revisited

Review Date: 2003-05-11
I read most of the stories of King Arthur, and I tend to like Diana Paxson, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and Stephen Lawhead, so I admit I wasn't initially attracted to something new from a first-time writer. But after finishing this book, I must say it's an outstanding addition to fantasy fiction in general and Arthur literature specifically.

Mr. Wollert's prose is exciting, and he makes you want to keep turning the page (I even stayed up a little too late a couple of nights trying to finish!) Like the cover says, it's about the younger knights, since when the story begins, Arthur's already been king of Britain for quite a few years. Wollert focuses on Perceval and Galahad and their relationship, and of course, on their search for the Holy Grail itself. Yet for you Arthur buffs out there, all the old characters are here. And the idea of making Galahad a woman was totally original! I loved it!

I've heard rumors of this guy Wollert working on something new, and I'm looking forward to it. ...Morgan Godwin

Exciting version of the Grail quest!

Anyone who is a fan of historical fiction or fantasy will find plenty to appreciate in this book. I have read many of the established Arthurian tales available (Paxson, Bradley et al) and I can say that this version is completely original and a fresh look at some characters that are often largely ignored. The female Galahad is a strong, interesting character and her relationship with Perceval rings true.
This book is extremely well written - I can give it my ultimate compliment - when reading it before bed it was always, "okay, just a couple more pages... okay, another chapter..." I didn't want to put it down! You get so caught up in the lives of the characters that you want to know what happens to them next.
Seasoned Arthurian fans and new readers alike will appreciate this book.

Buy it!!!!
