Not just for cross-stitchers!

This book is a treasure trove! I confess, I do not cross-stitch. I do filet crochet, which uses thread to make lace. I have just finished creating a pattern for lace curtains for my kitchen, combining various motifs I found in this cross-stitch book. Since this book features silhouettes, few if any modifications are necessary to make the patterns work for filet. Frankly, it is a better filet collection than many filet books! And of course, I'm sure it's wonderful for cross-stitchers, too. The patterns include wonderful (and unusual) nature scenes, scenes of children at play, cross-cultural patterns, holiday patterns, borders, traditional designs, contemporary designs, and more! You can find patterns for the Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty, or a scene right out of the Everglades. And of course you can mix and match motifs to make your own creation. I highly recommend this book.

Wonderful...wonderful !

There are so many cross stitching books that are so similar that it is a real joy to find one that is out of the ordinary. The designs are many and for the most part are different and interesting. I bought the book this morning and I have not moved since I started looking at it. My biggest problem is deciding what will I do first. I hope that Ms. Welsby has more books!!!

There is not enough complimentary words to describe just how wonderful this cross stitch book truly is.!! Jammed packed full of gorgeous Bear patterns this book will delight any Bear Stitcher from young to old.

Joan Elliott has to be my all time favourite Cross Stitch Designer. She is able to put together so many factors in her designs, color, cuteness, variety, detail, while still making the patterns easy enough to read and stitch for Beginners, yet intricate enough to keep us advance stitchers interested.

The ooh's and ahh's, kept coming with every turn of the page, I was just soo happy and excited when looking through this book that I could hardly contain my excitement.!

There isnt a single pattern in this book that I didnt love. This wonderful book of bear patterns will keep me in stitches for many years to come.

I can highly recommend this book to everyone. It is truely worth the money and will be a heirloom for decades to come. These timeless teddy patterns will be a favourite with all.

Get this book and fall in love with the adorable bears designed by the worlds greatest designer (in my opinion!) Joan Elliott.

This book is divided in color chapters. There are both small and big designs. If you want something to decorate your house or walls just pick the main color and find the design you like. Useful for pillowcovers, kitchen decoration, pictures to hang on the wall and much more. A real inspiration. The charts are clear and vivid. Beautiful pictures.

I was pleasantly surprised and really impressed with this book.
More than 100 beautiful designs are categorized in 7 chapters according to color:rose, green, red, violet, blue, orange and yellow.
With lots of borders and many florals one can incorporate these lovely designs in various projects like linen and other home-related items. The possibilities are endless. The charts are in color and very clear. The photography is beautiful.

Cross into the World You Live In

Review Date: 2008-07-01
This book gives a window in to things that many have heard about and many don't get to see up close and personal - the urban drug culture and it's deeper causes, the Police from the perspective of their prey, life in the Cabrini Green housing development and much more. But, beyond that, it reflects on many deep challenges faced by U.S. society - and challenges the reader to reflect on them deeply.

One may not agree with the authors prescriptions for this or that social issue. But an honest reader has to stop and think about what they usually glide over when they read the newspaper or watch the 10 O'clock news. Or when they pass someone of a different race, nationality or culture on the street.

What I've said up to now might make you think that this book is a heavy, heavy read -- a slow, sociological treatise. It actually is a fast moving, engaging and entertaining reflection on the world. It is filled with love of people and joy for life. And, while sometimes the experiences of the author may seem far fetched one has to keep in mind that real life is often stranger than fiction.

I encourage anyone who wants to take a voyage into an unknown land to read this book and discover the unknown land that exists all around them in their every day life - a land you can't see until you look through someone else's eyes.

I am a high school football coach and competitive martial artist. This book is very easy to understand and provides great information for any athlete trying to reach peak conditioning or average person trying to stay fit. The nutrition information in this book is something I try get across to my players in order to make them better and I also follow it myself. To me, the most impressive part of this book is how easy it is to understand. I would recommend this book for any athlete, coach, personal trainer, business person, or homemaker that would like to improve their physical fitness level.

Best book on exercise , A requirement for any level athlete!

Today my pastor gave me a copy of this book to use as a resource for my Sunday School class, while reading it I noticed that it was very well written, and it kept my attention.

I feel that this will be a wonderful resource for my young adult class.

Our men's breakfast study group just completed this book. I
thought it was very good. This study really applies to "real"
life and really starts discussion. Worth reading alone but I
think ever better with a group. The questions at the end of each
chapter are very good. Our group wants to read more from this
author James W Moore.

A *** Classic *** and a must-read for all serious X-C skiers

I agree with JP in Michigan's insightful analysis of this wonderful x-c skiing book. Trully dated, anyone with a trace of the 'old x-c skiing ethic should try to get a copy of this book, read it, and take the lesson to heart. (but you can't have my copy).

The only humorous, insightful, literary XC book out there!

This book is dated. Pure 60's, 70's. --The kind of dating that "outdoor sport" needs now. TCCSCLPB is the only book about the *WHY* of XC, and it goes pretty deep. It's also whimsical. If you're looking for something other than How-To or Ultra Mountain Dude in the way of XC books, this is just about it, folks. Nice photos. Includes spoofery of the XC how-to book genre as well as its rampant consumerism and much other just plain fun. Actually, I suspect the listing on Amazon is just an ISBN gleaning. I *SERIOUSLY* doubt it's in print. I rank it as VERY hard to find and collectible. So much for high tech! :)

Living in North Lake Tahoe for over 33 years cross-country skiing has become one of my great passions. In the winter months I spend four to five days a week skate skiing for fitness and pleasure. After all this time I figured I knew just about all I needed to about the ski areas in and around my home, but was I wrong. A short time into Tim's book I had already gathered new information and ideas for some exciting excursions both close to home and a day trip away. I would recommend this informative, fun book to both experienced and novice cross-country skiers. Also, if you have thought about cross-country skiing but haven't had the chance to try it, this is also the book for you. It will help you make some good decisions on where and how to start this great sport. Now, get out there and have some fun!

Great guide to Sierra Nevada XC skiing

Review Date: 2007-12-19
With brevity and charm, Hauserman shares his thorough knowledge about local and regional cross-country ski areas. (There are 13 between Mt. Shasta and Yosemite.) Anyone yearning to get out there on skinny skies - either as a novice or as a veteran looking beyond the everyday workout - should buy this book. For beginning skiers, Hauserman breaks down the complexities of this oft-misunderstood sport and tells where to get more help on the web or at local ski shops when you need it. For veterans, he provides ski maps, directions, resort highlights, activities and even a little natural history. The chapters and guide entries are straightforward. During his two-plus years of field research, Hauserman explored thousands of kilometers of trails and ate in every resort restaurant (for research, of course!). He checked out local lodgings and interviewed managers and local skiers. The end result is a book that clarifies details and whets appetites for the best of the Sierra Nevada's groomed resort terrain.

An excellent comprehensive primer on enjoying the snow via skis
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-05
Aspiring skiers will love Cross-Country Skiing: Building Skills For Fun And Fitness: it joins others in Mountaineers' 'Outdoor Expert' series, providing a long-time PSIA instructor's techniques using step-by-step photos and learning activities to back instruction. Common problems receive sidebars of easily-accessed information, while technique is surveyed for different terrain and snow conditions. Cross-Cross-Country Skiing: Building Skills For Fun And Fitness: isn't just about technique, though: it includes games, health concerns, and tips on selecting skis and clothing. An excellent comprehensive primer on enjoying the snow via skis.

Excellent XC ski book

Steve Hindman's book is an outstanding introduction to Nordic skiing. He starts from scratch, describing the types of skis and bindings, and showing you how to get started for the first time. He then gradually progresses to the more advanced techniques of efficient and enjoyable cross country skiing. I have been Nordic skiing for 26 years without much instruction, and I learned a lot from the book. I highly recommend it.
