A Pleasure to Read - Passionate, Poignant and PowerfulReview Date: 2005-09-05
The Parshall's know how to create passion for truth by combining historical evidence with current day implications and instilling a love for the Word of God that makes the book and God's Word come to life.
This is a must read book for anyone who loves history, cares about those who are and who have been persecuted and loves the Word of God!
gotta read itReview Date: 2006-12-05
In "Crown of Fire" Craig and Janet Parshall do a superb job of weaving history with captivating fiction, as they bring to life that forthright and surefire spiritual leader, John Knox. His biography is thoroughly intertwined in this novel so that at the conclusion one feels to have stepped back in time and actually experienced knowing him personally.
The reader of "Crown of Fire" is taken through the short reign of King Edward, the terrifying and bloody reign of Queen Mary, and finally left with Queen Elizabeth allowing light in an otherwise spiritually darkened country. Through all of this, Ransom and his bonnie Highland lass, Margaret, grow closer to the Lord despite persecution in both England and Scotland.
A most fascinating historic novel, "Crown of Fire" is a must-read for today's Christian. The history lesson is complete, the heart has been warmed by the love of a husband and wife, and above all a challenge has been issued to all Christians to stand faithful to their Lord.

One thousand miles apart. Review Date: 2008-05-07
Warning - Not for the faint of heart - true horror fans only!Review Date: 2008-01-14
When Rainey wakes up in her pristine 1969 Cadillac, she can't remember how it is she got home, let alone where she has been, or why the car and her clothes smell of smoke. All she does know for certain is that her and her lover Drew had a fight - but over what? Not even she knows why, but unable to find him Rainey's drawn by the disparate need to head south. Without knowing where he is she heads to the only place she knows he might be - in Florida.
Drew is first introduced waking up in Miami, Florida in Rainey's beloved 69 Cadillac staring hard into his childhood church. Why? Only able to remember the horrible accident that took Rainey away from him he's left to wonder how he ended up back in Florida and how he's driving around in a car that wrapped around a tree. Nothing makes sense - who's the shadowy man at the church and how is he going to endure his life after losing Rainey? The stranger at the church sends Drew reeling back in time - the nightmare of his childhood comes slamming back into his memory after all these years of keeping it hidden. Filled with anger and a broken heart he decides he's got to get the hell out of Florida. He's on a mission to Virginia to return the caddie back to Rainey's mother or so he tells himself.
Both Rainey and Drew suffer flash backs into their childhood, where each of them has had to endure the worst kind of evil that can be inflicted upon a helpless child. This novel will send you on a roller coaster ride of emotional trauma, you'll scream in anger one moment then feel like crying the next as you ride with the characters Tallman has created in a car that isn't just any car. The demons she creates in this book are too real, so real it will change the way you look at the common passerby every time you walk out your front door.
Kristy Tallman has done it again! Her ability to turn the pages of a novel into a real to life psychological hell for the reader by showing you that the genuine horror in this world is our very own human race has again been accomplished with an encore for more. Tallman has definitely surpassed the expectations I held after reading "The All-Souls Faire". She managed to shock me to the core and horrify me like no other author has in a long time! Excellent! 5-Stars

This is a book that shows that both men and women are susceptible to the real-life monsters that live and breathe all around us. In a red '69 Caddy, you'll ride right along side them and delve right into their pasts, becoming white knuckled by the end wanting to destroy their demons for them.

A challenging read, indeed !!Review Date: 2008-01-03
And while I mention this shortcoming, I find no rationale to dwell on it, to the degree that Angela McCormick dwelt upon the suffering-vs-love. In both cases, Brother Gorman's scope is being criticized for the book he didn't write instead of the one he did. Time after time while reading this book (and I never read more than a few pages a day, since I didn't want to miss anything that was said), I thought,"... *This* is why Jesus is my Lord, and *this* is exactly why I choose to worship Him and call myself a Christian." And at the same time, the arguments are erudite and comprehensive in their scope. So few books present a Biblical view of the Holy Spirit, and I was very impressed by this book's perspective. If I never profit any more from another richly-developed argument on the Holy Spirit as I have from this book (and the author obliquely suggests that there's more to his view than written here), I think that's be alright by me. I am so glad my NT Greek Professor included this among his "Required Reading," for I have truly benefited from what I've read. Now only to live it out, daily, from grace to faith.
Ground-breaking arguments yet has some flawsReview Date: 2006-03-22
I was thoroughly impressed by Gorman's depth of exegesis and analysis on the theme of suffering in Paul's letters but I felt some questions still remained unanswered. To begin with, I absolutely loved Gorman's explanation of the paradox of power in weakness, like his discourse on power as moral transformation into a new creation (298-9) and as boasting of the victory found in suffering (301-2).
On the other hand, I find Gorman puts more of a focus on victory through suffering rather than victory through love. For example, Gorman states, "Suffering is somehow part of the grace of believing existence" lived out through what Gorman calls "cruciform care, the power of suffering love" (301-2). Perhaps I am being overly critical but I believe focusing on the power of suffering can bypass what was at the true root of Christ's death on the cross: love.
It is not Christ's suffering that won the victory but the unconditional love. His superabundant love for the Father and for mankind was his motivation for suffering and therefore it is love that conquered death and sin, not the suffering itself. It is not "the power of suffering love" (303) that is victorious, but rather the power of unconditional love that was put into action on the cross. I am adamant in this distinction for it is extremely important on theological grounds.
There are theological repercussions in equating suffering with love because it easily leads to the deduction that God must suffer on some level because God is love. After much reflection on this topic, I concur with scholars like Thomas G. Weinandy, who argues that God cannot suffer because it contradicts his immutability. There are many theological implications if one contests that God does suffer. Suffering is due to an emotive response, emotions change. If God suffers, then He must be said to go through emotional stages of change, which would imply that God changes. Also, suffering is the result of evil and evil is theologically defined as the "absence of good" so how can an all-good God suffer? Furthermore, if God suffers then how can heaven be perfect happiness? If we were in heaven - in the very presence of God - and he was suffering, how could we be happy? If God suffers it would only follow that we would suffer even in heaven. It would be like watching Christ suffering on the cross and yet being perfectly happy.

Valuable guide to building a successful worldwide company.Review Date: 1998-10-11
Excellent book for learning more about managing multicultural organisations.Review Date: 2006-08-28
Though the authors are very much pro-convergence (even claiming in Chapter 1 that Global harmonization of consumer buying preferences will dominate certain industry-goods and services-sectors.) as to Globalization they manage to build up a comprehensive argument about the high role of culture in the process of organizational globalization.
Busy international managers could find the approach of breaking the complexities of cultural differences into value orientations a bit theoretical in the absence of case examples and critical incidents. There are some good case studies in chapter 4:A Survey of Cultural Patterns but there are too few of them in the whole book. In fact more of these would have helped in getting a vital point accross that cultural boundaries are not national boundaries. For people involved in designing performance management systems and strategic planning in multicultural organisations this book is highly recommended reading. HR-practitioners in multicultural organizations would also benefit from reading this book.

Do Better Deals by Doing Better Due DiligenceReview Date: 2002-11-06
This handbook, Due Dilignece for Global Deal Making, dramatically increases the odds of doing a deal better. Many experts believe that deals are made or broken in the due diligence phase. That is is where you figure out how much to pay, and the valuation is totally dependent on what you find out and what questions you ask.
This book covers it all from strategic imperative to tax rules. It also has an excellent chapter on my own area of expertise, people and organizational fit. I found the section on beginning to evaluate the fit of the corporate cultures particularly helpful. We think the success of true mergers are highly influenced by the cultural fit.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone practicing in this area, regardless of their area of expertise, as it gives them context for all of the other important, areas.
A Remarkable AccomplishmentReview Date: 2003-03-05
Each of the seven substantive chapters looks at a business using a slightly different lens: strategic, operational, financial and accounting, legal, tax, organizational and, oddly but perhaps most interestingly, the Internet. Scattered through the chapter are cautionary tales of what can go wrong in the real world if the practitioner or the client cuts corners. At the end of each chapter is a series of charts and lists which sets forth the subjects of investigation, often with indications of where to find the information or how it is important to the evaluation of the target.
For anyone who has to conduct, supervise or coordinate due diligence, this overview is remarkably helpful. For the young attorney, accountant or business strategist, Due Diligence provides a veritable Bible for his or her own due diligence. But more importantly, the book informs the reader how the information gleaned fits into the overall process.
Rosenbloom's brief but enlightening look at the due diligence world post 9/11 is among the most compelling parts of the book. This section alone can be worth the price of the book. The possible effects of terrorism or war on a business, in concrete terms, or on the material adverse change or force majeure clauses of a contract are sobering and helpful.
Describing due diligence from seven points of view and then domestic and foreign aspects on top of that is a tall order. This informative book is a remarkable, and even entertaining accomplishment...

A pretty good start for younger readers on Arthurian legendReview Date: 2005-01-13
One of the great things about this book is that it teaches the young reader to look past physical differences and see the "person" on the inside. For instance, when King Arthur and the giant first meet and become friends, the giant helps King Arthur by providing him with a place to sleep for the night and food to eat. Likewise, King Arthur sees strength and potential in the giant when he asks him to drag his ship out to sea in return for his and his father's voyage to England. Especially remarkable is the fact that there is not violence in the book; no battles and no killings.
Because of the large amount of text, this picture book will go far in developing the reading skills of younger children. Unfortunately, there might be (at least for some) a little too much detail in the text. This may tend to bore younger and more inexperinced reader. Also, some parents (or teachers) may be alarmed by the picture of a unicorn nursing a human baby.
Overall, this book would serve well as a good picture book for children who are at the age where they need to start developing their reading skills more. It's fairly long for a picture book, and reading it in one sitting may present a challenge to younger readers. However, it is for this reason that this book develops better reading skills.

With a great title and great chapter titles this book is a great follow up to GENOCIDE OF THE MIND. This book should be read in classrooms all across the U.S. It is a burning reminder that the Indian voice is still not heard, but we will continue to start the fires, and make your blood boil.

THE TRAIL STILL WALKEDReview Date: 2006-09-15
With specific references to tribal nations like the Conoy, that are gone but not forgotten and accounts of massacres like Sand Creek and Wounded Knee, these writers bring us up to date and put forth the message that there was a holocaust here too, it just gets no recognition in books or on film.
This anthology hopes to change all of that. With the details brought front and center there is no turning away from what was covered up, taken and not returned, and is still being perpetrated on the survivors. To balance these accounts Moore has included tales of children going back home to learn where they came from, and poems that tantalize the mind and make the spirit soar.
The accomplishment of bringing the likes of Paula Gunn Allen, Vine Deloria, Jr., and Eduardo Galeano in one volume is to say the least, incredible. Read it and learn about the trail, still being walked today.
Important book, despite the hit-piece against Ward ChurchillReview Date: 2007-03-11
No one knows all the details of Churchill's experiences in Nicaragua. But we can all learn many things from his books on FBI counter intelligence programs, the Native American holocaust, the horrible boarding schools Native kids were subjected to, current day ecocidal assaults from mining, timber and massive hydroelectric projects, and many other important topics.
Ward doesn't get it all right, Ward has "issues," - as we all do.
But Churchill has made many important contributions, including having the courage to speak some uncomfortable truths regarding the blowback of September 11.
Regarding the "scandal" over Ward's heritage, I'd just say even Europeans have tribal roots. Unlike Ward, most Europeans do not have a grandfather who is buried in a traditional Indian buriel ground (so, one could understand the roots of Ward's own assumptions about his ancestry). And unlike Ward, most of us have not spent countless hours writing, speaking and teaching about indigenous holocausts - past and present.
Seals' effort to degrade Churchill ultimately speaks more poorly of Seals himself.
In addition to this book, I'd recommend anything by Winona LaDuke and the DVD "Homeland: Four Portraits of Native Action" produced by the Katahdin Foundation.

The Cross of Jesus Christ as the Key to your Life and LifestyleReview Date: 2006-06-30
It was the French priest, Lacordaire, who said that the Church was "born crucified". By this he meant that all the members of the Divine Head, the members of the Body of Christ, died IN and WITH the last Adam, when He laid down His life on Calvary.
By relating the cross of Christ to the life of the individual believer, L.E. Maxwell shows how an understanding of our identification with Christ in His death and resurrection can lead to a life of better relationships, fruitfulness and personal victory over the powers of darkness. If, through the years, the Cross in the life of the believer had been adhered to as strenously as the Cross for salvation, the Church today would not be so plagued with modernistic infidelity. We little dream how we are suffering from what has been termed a "decapitated gospel". This book reminds the believer that, from the moment he is saved, he is so related to the Cross of Jesus Christ, that, if he henceforth fails to live BY the cross (in spiritual apprehension on a daily basis), he is an utter ethical contradiction to himself, to the spiritual and physical world and to his position as an "enthroned Christian" in Christ, the Risen One.
The cross of Jesus Christ definitely is THE key to all situations. If we lose THAT key, we miss the road not only in reading and comprehending the Bible, we then miss the road in the whole of our life.
Teaching for the Hour!!!Review Date: 2006-04-11
This is a phenomenal read, and I believe to be required reading for the Christian who means business with God. There's such a goldmine of truth in this little book, and chapters devoted to how the Cross of Christ is to be applied to our lives, by faith, and lived out accordingly.
If there was ever a book to be read for such a time as this, it would have to be this book. I could only find one copy of this title at a local Christian book store, among so many other topics which pale in comparison. If possible, I'd place it in every Christian's hands and if applied, there'd be an explosion of faith and practice in the land.
A great read, and highly recommended!!!
