Proof that a government document can be interesting

On September 12, 1994, Frank Eugene Corder crashed a stolen Cessna onto the south lawn of the White House, skidding into the Executive Mansion itself. Although the First Family was not in residence at the time, and only minor damage was done to the White House itself, the Treasury Department commissioned a comprehensive review of White House security in the wake of the incident. On top of an investigation into the Corder incident, the main aim was to evaluate the dangers and most effective responses to air and ground assaults on the White House complex. The scope and aims of the review were then expanded in the wake of another serious incident when, on October 29, 1994, Francisco Martin Duran fired at least 29 rounds toward the White House, miraculously hitting none of the people located on the White House grounds at that time. This Public Report of the White House Security Review (May 1995) gives a short description of the two cited incidents, details the methodology by which this truly comprehensive review was carried out, describes several of the Review's recommendations for improving White House security, and provides a short summary of the history of Presidential security.

Naturally, the official Review was much larger, running close to 1000 pages, and a great deal of the information and recommendations could not be made public for security reasons, but I found this Treasury publication quite interesting. I learned a great deal about the origin and evolution of the Secret Service, found information on security breaches I had never even heard of, and gained a greater appreciation of the thoroughness and professionalism of the Secret Service. The counterterrorism concerns that led to the closing of the road in front of the White House to vehicular traffic were also of great interest in the light of post-9/11 American life. This public report is basically an aging government document that few people will ever see or read, but the information on past security breaches on the White House grounds proved quite interesting to me. The White House has and always will be the people's house, and one cannot help but be impressed by the zeal with which the Secret Service balances its protection of the White House with the uniquely American commitment of making the executive residence as accessible as possible to the citizenry.

I purchased this for my niece and she just loves it, she is just starting out to be the baker in her family and having a book that you use a cake mix and just add a few simple ingredients makes this book wonderful. Who thought you could make a great cookie from a cake mix box and a few other items. Heck I think I will buy one for myself. Hope this helps!!

New way to view the market and how it works

I liked this book and found it very helpful. While it's not for novice traders, the tone of the writing is always friendly and honest. (Most traders sound so pompous and arrogant when they write about trading.) There's no over-promise here, just sound guidelines and lessons. The plastic comb binder lets me leave it on my desk during the day so I can refer to the lessons as I trade. A very worthwhile book for any day trader who's looking to improve his/her game.

Explains Quicken in clear, easy-to-follow terms
Helpful Votes: 29 out of 30 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-19
{Pardon my 5-star immodesty. I am the author of this book and Amazon requires me to rate my book when I submit this review.)

Financial counselors agree that keeping good, accurate records is the first step toward financial security. In order to make sound financial decisions, you must be conscientious of your spending habits and know how much income you really have. How can you save for a down payment on a house if you don't know how much you are capable of saving? How can you tell if your investments are doing well if you don't track them carefully?

This book makes it very, very easy to track your finances with Quicken. After you have read it and started using the techniques described here, you will know what your net worth is, how much you spend in different areas, what your investments (if you have any) are worth, and how much in taxes you will owe next year. You will know how to generate reports and graphs that describe in clear terms what your spending habits are, plan for retirement, compare mortgages and loans, and analyze different types of investments.

This book is for people who want to get up to speed with Quicken in a hurry -- people who want to explore Quicken's many excellent features without spending a lot of time doing it. In this book, I don't describe how to use Quicken -- I explain how Quicken serve your and your financial goals.

Review Date: 2008-01-12

This document addresses MLA, APA, and many other formats of grammatical hard-copy styling as well as digital documentation and the web. Keys for Writers is concise, no fluff, and has an unparalleled flow and semantic that is as professional as a document of this size and stature can opt. From the citations within a footnote to a professionally styled e-Mail correspondance, Keys for Writers will have you covered. You want Keys for Writers.

My brother keeps his copy hidden from me because I have the tendency to borrow the book and forget that it's not mine.

I have to get my own copy...

You will be amazed at the miniscule size of this book and the breadth of information that it delivers. Ann Raimes' layout and design as well as delivery really gets the message across with efficiency. She is a master craftsman in the literary sect.

Amazon really needs to get some kind of preview feature for an online view of what this book is all about because this write up falls short of expressing the true power that this document and it's author possess.

I had one of these journals when I was a little girl. Being an avid fan of Beverly Cleary and Ramona Quimby, my mom bought me one and I LOVED it. Actually, when I filled one of them up I begged her to get me another! It is filled with blank pages and also quotes from the Ramona books that help a young girl think about things to write about. It was a great first journal for me and I plan to buy one for each of my two neices (I might buy an extra for myself!) Two thumbs up for this one!

This book is one I used in my graduate level reading course in early literacy. Anybody wanting to learn more about balanced literacy and what it is all about MUST purchase and read this book. It moves fast, is easy to understand, and good to share with co-workers, parents, and others who are not aware of balanced literacy. Great buy. You won't be let down.

I teach kindergarten and use a lot of what she discusses in her book each and every day.
