I collect Penna. Dutch style cookbooks. This one has not disappointed me at all. I grew up outside of Lancaster County and still enjoy Dutch style food. A lot of the recipes in this book I remember my Grandmother making. They are all very tasty and easy to adapt to your own tastes. I highly recommend it if you want to sample some good comfort food that is easy to make with many ingredients you already have.

I own most of Jean Pares recipe books and use them all everyday. The recipes can be made with common, everyday ingredients. The books are easy to follow with step by step instruction. The only problem I had with Soups and Sandwiches is that some of the soup recipes use a store bought can of soup as its base. I prefer to cook from scratch.

I use this book all the time! The recipes are for 'one dish meals' which are easy to prepare and easy to clean up afterwards. There is every type of casserole from beefy macaroni and chicken pot pie to pork chop casseroles and vegetable dishes. Most recipes can be prepared ahead and refrigerated until cooking time. The book is laid out very well, simple to follow and most ingredients are already available in your kitchen.

This book is by almost all accounts the Bible of the trumpet world. It is comprehensive, and cognitive in its presentation. There are several hundred pages of practice score and a good amount of comments to guide.

This particular edition is a worthwhile purchase as it is spiral comb bound, so it lays open better, it is chock full of updated, editorial comments that explain and clarify some of the things Arban said that don't apply or possibly don't, and it includes a cd with accompaniment for the practices in the book.

Great book, well worth the price!

I have only beeen taking lessons for a couple of months, but I have already learned quickly from this book and this book has everything from the first scales and fingering charts to a plethera of exercises for the best trumpeters, so I'm sure that I will be using this book for a very long time. I would recomend this book to any beginner.

I have bought this cook book in the past but it always ends up falling apart because of so much use. I bought one for my son who is batching it and then decided to get a new one for me, too (why not??) I love the way it not only gives you the recipe but also gives you pictures of what the finished product should and should NOT look like.

My only problem with the book is the plastic rake binding. It can break over time. However, the content of the book is super! Great for new cooks and old ones who have forgotten how to do things right! :)

I recieved this book as a wedding gift. What a blessing! It has so much information, I am always turning to it to figure something out. This book has many different sections, each with specific information on the subject. It has a lot of pictures in the book that show you want you are cooking should look like. I often find myself searching the back inside cover for subsitutions. For a amateur cook this book is a must have.
The only thing I wish I had was the Betty Crocker Cookbook my mom and grandma have. In the newer editions they have taken out recipes that I grew up eating. I have had to go back and search the recipes from my mom's book.
This is the perfect wedding gift, I know I have loved it!

This book was given to me by my sister as a part of my bridal shower gift. This is quite possibly the most useful gift I recieved. As a new homemaker and wife I have faced reality that I need to learn to cook and this book has come in handy just about every week. The recipes are easy and most ingredients you will already have in your cupboards and fridge. I also like the fact that they don't take long to make especially when everyone in your house works, the last thing you want to wait for is dinner! I highly recommend this to anyone and would also think it would be good for kids since the recipes are so easy. Five stars!

Finally - a super simple cookbook!

This is really a neat book! Just like the title says, all recipes contain 5 ingredients, some even less. The main chapters are: Appetizers & Beverages; Breads, Brunch & Breakfast; Soups, Salads & Sandwiches; Vegetables & Side Dishes; Main Dishes; and Sweets. There is a page to take notes next to the main dish chapter, plus the main dish chapter gives suggestions as to what side dishes and/or desserts to serve them with. The last half of the main dish chapter is entitled "Your Guide to Left-Over Turkey, Chicken and Ham" with recipes using up the leftover meat you might have. There is also a couple pages in the Sandwich chapter that gives "new and different combinations" for sandwiches, a page listing 6 "special sandwich spreads" and a basic hamburger recipe along with a page and half of creative ways to spice up the average hamburger. All in all, I think this is a really cool book, despite the fact there are no pictures, especially if you are really busy or don't want to take the time to fool with long complicated recipes!

Best of the series - more variety

If you told me that someone had made a book of recipes that only take five ingredients and three steps to make I would not have believed it contained so many delicious recipes. From appetizers, to breads, to brunch, soups, salads, sandwiches, vegetables, side dishes, main dishes, and sweets just about any type of recipe is represented here. This is a great cookbook for the novice cook or people in a hurry. The recipes are so simple that even a young teenager can prepare a complete meal without any problems.

Some of the recipes that I really liked were the Roasted Garlic Dip, Mini Reubens, Green Olive Spread, Pineapple Teriyaki Chicken, Ranch Chicken, Sweet and Sour Spareribs, and Peanut Butter Fudge. It was really hard to pick favorite recipes from this book because everything I tried was great. This cookbook has already become one of my personal favorites. It has everything that I look for - comb bound so it lies flat, easy recipes to follow, easily acquired ingredients, minimal cleanup, and very tasty. This is a highly recommended cookbook for anyone to have around the house to prepare that elegant meal that looks and tastes like you have slaved in the kitchen all day.

I went to the book store and looked at all the wedding planners they had available. This book was definitely the best wedding planner I found. It has check lists for everything you can think of, budget planning, and all the questions you will need to ask any vendor. It also has pages for you to write down personal information such as where he asked you to marry him, and what your family did when you announced the engagement. I plan on not only using it as a wedding planner, but a memory book as well. One of my favorite things about the book is the accordian file in the back. It is awesome! Great idea! I would highly recommend buying this book!

Planning a marriage can be very stressful, expecially when both of us work and many of the guests are from out of the country. You need the best advice and methods for getting things done quickly and right the first time. We returned many other books that were too vague or had obvious self-evident "ideas". This book though was a keeper. I can say now, after the fact, that this book saved us much time and stress. The detailed checklists were particulary useful. Everything was clear and well written. I recommend this for anyone who wants things to go right.

I decided to go to the store to search for a wedding organizer instead of buying from Amazon because I wanted to actually look through the books to see how useful they might be. This organizer is by far and away the greatest. It has tons of places to write things, lots of pertinent questions to ask when searching for various services, lists of things not to forget, suggestions for ways to word things, etc. And, in the back of the book there is an accordian file which contains pockets for the following categories: ceremony, wedding attire, photography, videography, stationery, reception, music, bakery, flowers, transportation, rental items, miscellaneous, honeymoon. The book is hard bound and they've left extra room to let it expand when you fill it up with papers. Don't pay full price like I did...buy this book from Amazon...it's excellent!

I came to bass playing in my late 30s after a lifetime of playing mainly guitar, banjo and mandolin, and I went through a lot of books looking for a clear and solid foundation for upright jazz playing.

Of all the methods out there, Reid's is the one that has really stood the test of time, and for good reason. He starts the reader off with basic scales and simple patterns for playing over changes. From there it's on through more complex scales and patterns and finally, soloing, illustrated with a number of transcribed classics.

Combine this book with the Simandl book for basic technique (and a good library of jazz albums), and you have just about everything needed to guide the beginning bass player through the intermediate stage. For a player who already had a basic classical technique, this book alone is just about all that's needed to learn to play jazz.

a "must have" for the jazz bass player...

Rufus Reid's revised edition of the classic "Evolving Bassist" is a literal tour de force and a must have for all bass players regardless of what level of proficiency they play at. The companion DVD (available separately and highly recommended) is a gem in which Rufus jams with two of the finest contemporary musicians illustrating various aspects of the text. The DVD is worth the price just as a performance video.

While loosely defined as a method, the "Evolving Bassist" is really more of a well thought out approach to playing the instrument. The skills taught follow several threads of theory and practice, but it's not a beginner tutorial even though very early players will benefit from the material...and continue to benefit throughout their playing career. If one is desirous of a more basic text in the jazz genre then you must get "The Michael Moore Bass Method", probably the best tutorial currently available; the classical "Simandl" material notwithstanding. The two books and the "Evolving..." DVD really are complimentary and easily stand at the forefront of a limited field. Highly recommended.

The Four Most Common Haircuts That Anyone Can Master

I was given this book as a gift. It turns out that it was a very money saving tool. This book is very easy to follow. I especially was interested in the chapter on using hair clippers.

The pages of this book lay flat, which makes it much easier to follow the instructions while actually using the clippers. It repeats the important steps on each page, so that you are not constantly turning back pages. The print is large enough to see while it sits on the counter.

I started out using the larger guard as recommended , to get the feel of how much hair was being removed. This gave me the confidence to go to the next smaller size, etc. until I accomplished my finished cut. I now use the clippers with ease, and my family members are very satisfied.

I bought this book a couple years ago because we have four boys and my husband had always cut their hair. They were getting old enough that they wanted it to look a little more professional, so it was either spend a bunch at a barber or learn how to do it differently.

This book was a huge help. My husband was able to learn new ways of cutting so that the boys were happy with the results, and they didn't look as if they'd gotten their hair done in the middle of the kitchen, which is an important thing for teens;-).

Viggiano's helpful step-by-step instructions and clear illustrations make the book very easy to use It's organized logically, and the tips included make it possible for virtually anyone to achieve good results.

I estimate that by doing all the haircuts for each of the boys for 18 years, we've saved almost $9000 (calculating one $10 haircut per boy per month for 18 years). And for the ones who are over 18, and still getting haircuts at home, the savings keep climbing.

Lisa's book will not only rescue a lot of people from bad haircuts, it will also help you save a lot of money. I highly recommend it!

This book is a good reference for all the basic voicings of every chord. If you want jazz chords (or any other genre of music) this book won't give it. If you don't have a chord reference book, or are unhappy with the one you have, this is the book you want.

The only drawback I found was I thought I was buying the spiral bound edition (for ease of use). This was not the case. I was under this false impression because there is a review on this book that remarked on the ease of use because of the spiral binding. So, if binding matters to you, you may want to confirm the binding before purchasing.

Caveat Emptor -- The spiral bound though smaller in size, has fewer pages (I would expect more pages to compensate for the size). It might not contain all the chords the regular edition does. Be sure to check this out if it matters to you.

It will not tell you how to use the chords. If you already know what chords you want to play, this book will help you find possible variations.
