A great book on personality typology
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 1999-09-04
No one has written on matters of personality typology better than James and Jung. However, one will not find a clearer presentation than the one found in the following book. The style in which we think, gain access to information, and those forces that motivate our emotions, intellect, and will are all influenced by our own personality typology. The authors in this book give a clear presentation of not only their unique theory, but also its practical implications for daily life. This book is highly recommended. You will find it an enjoyable read.

Strong Suit

Review Date: 2000-03-01
This book opens new avenues of thought, awareness, and perception. It does not confine its content to gender issues but expands to study all types of human relationships by categorizing personality types into the four card suits. Using this typology and subsequent scenarios, the reader is able to understand his/her personality, social interactions, and social reactions. Strong Suit studies the root of relationship obstacles, not only discussing why an occurance develops but also how to work through the obstacle. The book's manageable language allows the business and general public to readily understand and utilize its tactics. I highly recommend Finding Your Strong Suit to anyone who wishes a better comprehension of the human character.

This is an excellent book for any firearms instructor, especially Police instructor's.

It not only gives you written lesson plans and handouts it even provides some fairly simple to understand basics for the students. I had no problem getting the lesson plans approved by my department for use in our training/qualification.

Best examination of intelligence-firepower disconnects
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-08
Major General Bob Scales may well be the Army's brightest light and this generation's successor to General Don Starry and Dan Morelli (who inspired the Toffler's book on War and Anti-War). First published by the National Defense University Press in 1990, this book reflects deeply on the limitations of firepower in limited war situations, and the conclusion is a telling indictment of our national intelligence community and our joint military intelligence community, neither of which is willing to break out of their little boxes to find a proper response to this statement: "The common theme in all five case studies presented here is the recurring inability of the side with the firepower advantage to find the enemy with sufficient timeliness and accuracy to exploit that advantage fully and efficiently."

Both invaluable and fascinating.

MGen. Scales provides the world with a fascinating study of man's recent relationship to technology. I enjoyed the book and wrote many things in the margins. MGen. Scales shows how firepower was used and countered in the French and U.S. tials in Viet Nam, during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan, during British actions on the Flaklands and through U.S. Army/Air Force combined operations against Iraq. Not dry or technical, this book weaves the moral aspect of war with the effects of artillery, naval and air-delivered munitions in a manner which would be clear to both the civilian and military professional. A great book for those involved in America's national and military strategy or foreign policy, for it illustrates what firepower has and hasn't been recently able to contribute to the foreign policies of France, the Soviet Union, Great Britain and the U.S. Invaluable to those seeking to understand why technology rarely triumphs over human will on the battlefield. I also recommend it to the casual reader interested in modern military history--MGen Scales fills his tactical discussions with stories of human interest from all sides of these conflicts. His discussion on Iraq, for instance, opens with a dramatic story from an Iraqi artillery leader about his experience at the receiving end of American firepower. My only disappointment is that his discussion of the Iraq war focuses on the U.S. Army and Air Force and to a point that almost discredits the contributions of the U.S. Marine Corps and Navy and the Coalition. Nonetheless, a worthwhile expenditure and a fine book to keep on the shelf.

Best Crab Dip I have ever made!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1998-07-03
I have made many of the recipes in this cookbook and they all were excellent. In fact, I made the crab dip for a party and people followed me around the party whenever I went to the kitchen to refill the bowl! The Kalua Bars with a "Burnt Butter" icing are one of my favorites too! There are a lot of healthy alternatives, recipes for children and even well known chefs' recipes as well. This cookbook was put together by the Women's Board of Cooper Hospital put together and proceeds go to the Children's Hospital at Cooper in Camden, New Jersey.

This is a great cookbook! I should know ... I collect them and have over 100. I read a cookbook like a novel, and I've been through this one cover to cover. In addition, this is one that I really USE ... all the time. Incidentally, I've given copies of it as hostess gifts and bridal shower gifts. One of my favorite recipes in the book is Herbal Pork Roast with Roasted Redskin Potatoes and Garlicky Green Beans ... it's simply delicious, yet quick and easy. Another favorite recipe is the Kung Pao Chicken ... and there's a huge selection of soups and salads. Finally, the innovative "Healthy Alternatives" recipes are excellent; I've tried many of them and you can't beat them. I think the Women's Board of Cooper Hospital can be justly proud of this effort to raise money for the new Children's Hospital in Camden NJ.

The Four Ingredient Cookbook, Coffee & Cale, eds. Here's a helpful kitchen guidebook for fast, easy, nearly foolproof dishes -- and the range is excellent, from beer-batter bread to flourless fruitcake. Simple, quality ingredients plus imaginative combinations provide alternatives to fast food that are as quick, and less expensive to prepare. Plus, if a special diet consideration is important, readers can readily substitute low-fat or low-sodium versions of ingredients right off the shelf. I would recommend this book -- and its sequels -- for anyone who wants to improve the speed, ease and variety of make-at-home dishes in his or her repertoire. I think students, brides, newly single folks or recently empty-nesters would find it a welcome gift, both practical and fun. Handy features include a lay-flat spiral binding and heavy pages, which allow a cook to stand the book vertically during use in a small kitchen. Its format is clear and its typeface very readable; the one change I would make is a larger size of text.

A Grandmother Writes...

Review Date: 2004-02-04
My children are long since grown up and have families of their own, but they still have fond memories of the funny little messages I used to put in their school lunchboxes along with the apples and raisins and peanut butter sandwiches. And they can still recall in detail the colourful plates of assorted, healthy tidbits that greeted them on their return, and how good those tasted. For food is a potent carrier of memories.
Just as its title suggests, this book has some great ideas for "fun foods," i.e. cute little platters of cleverly arranged, wholesome food that will brighten up any table and tempt the pickiest eater.
For any parent - or grandparent - who worries about the rising levels of childhood (and adult) obesity, our culture's addiction to junk food, the "empty calories" and synthetic chemicals in snack foods and colas, the overdosing of our kids' bodies and minds by the sugar industry, the book is a breath of pure, fresh air. And once you see the concept, your own creativity will kick in and you will start dreaming up all sorts of new "fun food" arrangements of your own.
What I liked best of all, though, is its the underlying message: food is so much more than just a way to refuel our bodies, on the run, as though we were automobiles. It is central to our interactions with each other, especially in our homes.
These authors remind us to enjoy our food, revel in it, prepare it together, sit together around the table and break bread, teach our children about the world as we cook and eat, share our stories.
After all, lovers go out to dinner together to learn about each other, enjoy each other and enjoy the moment. Let's have dinner with our children for all the same reasons. Fun food, served up with love, is something they will always remember. I can assure you of that.

This woman should be on TV not wasting her time with Garage Sales. This is one funny and informative book. I should know because I bought the first copy. If this book doesn't help you make more money from your next Garage Sale you obviously haven't read it....or you have the attention span of a 5-year-old. This book contains the wisdom of the ages. Lots of little secrets of having a successful Garage Sale. After reading this book my next Garage Sale brought in hundreds of dollars more than my last sale. (Hmmmm, maybe it was because I had more expensive items for sale.) But Connie told me it was because of her book, and I believe her. After all, she did write the definitive book and it's still under ten dollars. Just to show my family and friends what I really think of them, this book will be in all their Christmas stockings....along with a lump of coal.

Humor and knowledge.

The witty humor thrown into this 'How To' book makes it worth owning, even if you aren't considering having a garage sale. One of the best garage sale books I've read.

I learned how to control my newly aquired used gas kiln with this book. I had only fired electric kilns before. Great advise, no fuss, many questions answered, found information I could not get anywhere else. Get volume II as well if you want to become a proffessional and save money at the same time.

This book is very easy to understand. I am not an advanced potter (I have fired a gas kiln before) and I have not had any trouble. All terms and charts are explained for those who are not familiar with them and examples are given to better explain concepts. I can't wait to apply this new knowledge to my own firing techniques.
