I gave this cookbook as a Christmas gift to a friend. She likes the ideas for side dishes, things you can make on the grill and casseroles. She said the little ideas at the bottom are cool! There are things you can do to make the dish "neat" if you were taking it say to a potluck or get together. She is looking forward to using it in 2008!

Absolutely wonderful!!! I love cookbooks and this one has become one of my favorites. The recipes include casseroles, slow cooker recipes, meatless recipes, veggie sides and salads, recipes for the grill, dinner for two and desserts. As a full-time preschool teacher and mother of a 15 yr old, I rarely have time to cook or much less have the energy to. These recipes are easy, comforting and delicious.

Awesome cookbook for busy lives!

This book is great - especially for new cooks but it's also great for those of us always in a hurry. The recipes are very simple, but they all taste great. Can't remember a stinker in the bunch! I buy these books all the time because the food is good, they're fast, and cheap to make. Highly, highly recommend!

I really was impressed with this cookbook; it gives you more ideas on how to cook with wheat besides making bread. Pam Crockett's DVD that goes along with this book is a treasure as well (you can find it through Emergency Essentials at www.beprepared.com). I am new to wheat cooking and it's a great resource to run to for not only a large variety of things to cook from breakfasts, to desserts but it also gives you a lot of information on wheat itself. I would recommend this book along with its DVD to anyone interested in adding wheat to their diet!

Using raw, real, whole wheat is pretty foreign to most people, me included. This book can help anyone understand why wheat is referred to as "the staff of life." Easy to use, great recipes. I also HIGHLY recommend the DVD that goes along with it.

The title might lead your expectations down a different road, but this book is truly a gem for cooks and non-cooks alike. It's a cookbook with recipes, yes, but what makes it special is the family stories that surround the creation and consumption of each. Morris' conversational tone paints vivid images of a tight-knit family and how integral food is in expressing their love for one another and their roots.

Beyond the stories are recipes that are easy to make, fun to create and delicious to eat. You haven't lived until you've tried Maw Maw's West Virginia Funeral Cake. Dee-lish.

As a southern girl living in California, this cookbook included some recipes I never expected to ever see in print. From family reunions to Fellowship Dinner at my grandmother's little Southern Baptist church, the book and the stories warmed my heart... or is that heartburn?

Whether you're a Southerner or just enjoy some unpretentious time in the kitchen, this book is a gem.

This book, while scholarly, is easy for the lay person to understand. It reconciled many issues I struggled with and explains how the God of grace worked in old testament times. I have recommended this book to many Christians who were interested in these issues.

An inspiring book, extremely helpful in understanding the OT

Thompson shows how the horror of the OT can be reconciled with the grace of the NT, while maintaining its historical context and purpose. Recommended for all who find the stories of the OT unsettling and believe in an eternal and unchanging God throughout history.

This book literally lets you have your house in your hands!

There are a lot of organizational books on the market, some to help you get rid of clutter, some to help you organize your clutter into essential documents on file at your fingertips, some with places to write info about all types of rooms you have leaving lots of pages blank because you don't have certain rooms in your house that other people may have like a game room or sauna, but for the average homeowner, THIS book is all you need.

First of all, you get to 'name' your own rooms so there's no wasted space! You can label the pages in order of the flow of your house, so if your dining room is right next to your living room, the pages can be labeled that way, and the paint or carpet samples for each room will be close enough together in your book so that you're not flipping back and forth all the time. That alone means the book is much more relavant to you than most books on the market & if you want to include exterior features, or landscaping you can DO that quickly and neatly just by writing in the appropriate title on the next page.

The ABSOLUTELY BEST feature is that EVERY page has a big pocket for receipts, for magazine pictures you've pulled showing what you've done or what you'd like a remodeling project to look like, paint chips, photos, etc. For instance, I once found a picture in a magazine of an exterior doorway I wanted, with some modification, to use on the interior of an area we want to remodel. That was 14 years ago. Try holding onto a picture from a magazine for 14 years without losing it or damaging it! I DID, because I knew right where I'd put it -- I'd placed it in the pocket flap on the 'Future Loft' page, where it would eventually be the entrance door to our loft. Trying to tell a contractor how the door I wanted differed from hundreds of other mission-style doors on the market today would have been impossible without that picture to show the details of what I wanted in my door!

On top of the pockets being useful, each pocket has a grid where you can measure off and sketch your room -- you can sketch a floor plan or a wall with a window or several sketches if you want, it's up to you to use it however it will best suit your circumstances. And the pockets are sturdy enough to hold a LOT of loose pieces of paper, samples, etc. I carried a sort of thin sample of a brick around to match a color for a number of months! Now the brick DID cause some wear and tear on the pocket, but just being able to have it handy was GREAT! It meant I didn't lay it down somewhere in a store and leave it there. I reinforced the pocket with some tape and away I went with my brick sample!

If you're insistent on neat and tidy records, you might want to take some posterboard, cut it to fit the pocket, then staple your receipts or paint chips or whatever you decide you want to keep in your pockets to the posterboard so you can have a flipchart of information that you keep in the pocket, in an organized fashion. Pull out the posterboard, and just flip over to the item you're looking for! If you're REALLY anal about keeping things neat, use a photo refill page inside each pocket and slip your samples, swatches or pictures into the photo refill page so that you can pull out just one sample instead of pulling out the whole page if you want to.

My current book bulges to about 6" thick--and that's without the brick sample--because I've used it to keep remodeling ideas I WANT to do at my fingertips! I'm getting a new one now to track what I've actually done up to this point, and to get us through the remodeling we'll be doing this next year -- we're finally to the point financially where we can do most of what we want (I've been told by a couple of contractors that we should just move to a bigger place, but we'll have everything we need right here, once we remodel a few areas!) and I'll have everything recorded as it's done, in my new book, so it will be complete when the remodeling is done.

Eventually I can pass it on to new owners, when we can no longer take care of ourselves here and decide to sell, and it will help them to either freshen up what we did with the exact color code of paint, know the sizes of each space if they want to remodel, or keep track of their own swatches and chips if they decide to remake certain rooms!

The white plastic 'tooth' binding is wonderful because the book lies flat and expands some if you need extra room like I do!

This is the most appropriately named book I've seen in a loooooonnnnggg time -- "house in hand" is exactly what it is and "peace of mind" is what it provides!!!

When I first moved into my home I didn't know where to start in decorating. This was long before HGTV, Trading Spaces, or other design shows. This planner was invaluable in helping me get everything together. I was able to take it with me to fabric stores, paint stores, etc. All my swatches, paint numbers and wallpaper samples were together, window measurements were readily available, as well as listings of painters, plumbers, appliance manufacturers, putting everything in one place. When I decided to move, it also helped. All room sizes were listed, as well as information on all appliances, as well as major renovations I had done to the house. My real estate agent said it helped in selling. And now, it's with the new owners.

I bought this book during a remodel of our home. I still have it and use it for all my decorating. The pocket pages are the best for storing samples and the grid design is great for showing your room to perspective contractors. If you take it with you shopping, you will have all your information and color swatches with you for every project. It makes a wonderful gift for a new home owner, or for that first apartment.

This is by far my favorite cookbook. Mine is falling apart and I cant find another one. If I had known they would go out of print I would have stockpiled them. I really want one for each of my daughters now that they have their own homes.Every kitchen should have one! I am never worried about making something for company for the first time from this book because I know it will be good. It is even better than another favorite, Virginia Hospitality, and that is a huge best seller in my area. I will definitely buy several more if it is printed again. Susan Bryan.

I am a speech/language pathologist who has used many sections of this book during therapy sessions. There are verbal expressive sections as well as written exercises. I have adapted sections to use in group therapy sessions. I find this book very useful and would recommend it to any working SLP or family member working at home with a person recovering from stroke and aphasia.

The workbook is very beneficial for stroke survivors. There is a variety of lessons that are simple to more challenging. So where ever the stroke survivor is at in his/her recovery, they can start at any section. My mother really enjoys using this workbook. Its a little expensive but well worth every dollar.

My wife has been using this and other workbooks, after a stroke last month. I showed this workbook to her speech therapy teacher and the teacher said it was a good one and would be very useful to do. We have been going through it.
Therapy teachers like to go to a section that challanges the paitent, but we are also doing the other sections as general exercise.
Also, this is one of the workbooks that the therapy teacher uses for all other patients.

It has been 26 years since I graduated from college. I just recently retired and have started back to college again. Things like writing research papers have certainly changed during my hiatus from the academic world. I really needed a reference to help me with the papers and someone at the college suggested this book (A Writer's Reference with Help for Writing in the Disciplines). The suggestion was an excellent one, and the book is an enormous help. It's very easy to use, but at the same time is filled with everything and anything you might need. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, but especially someone in my situation.

I initially ordered this book as a requirement for an undergraduate university program. Although I love researching articles and getting to the bottom of things, I was pretty (embarassingly) unexperienced as far as proper sourcing according to MLA and/or APA styles.

This book is great because it's organized with colourful dividers and easy to read sections, providing the latest up do date info for MLA AND APA formatting. It's actually fun to read because you quickly feel you're getting a hand on this intimidating subject, and it makes it accessible in a clear and concise way. With the sections and dividers you can quickly flip to specific stuff you're looking for without being overwhelmed with the details of other material.

Definitely a must have for anyone considering to write research papers, or delving into other writing adventures...especially for getting into graduate level work!

101 fingerstyle guitar accompaniment patterns - a good start for any would be guitarist. "101 Fingerlicking Good Fingerstyle Accompaniment Patterns" is a guide for rookie guitarists to help themselves get into practice for songwriting and just to keep their minds fresh. The patterns range widely in difficulty and cover many genres of music from folk, blues, gospel, and even covering some popular tracks. Enhanced with a CD reviewing the patterns, "101 Fingerlicking Good Fingerstyle Accompaniment Patterns" is highly recommended for community library music collections and any novice guitarist.

Excellent, organised and inspires creativity

I took a chance on this one (no other reviews here), and am sure glad I did.
The author, Larry McCabe is obviously a well-organized, no BS type of guy, since this spiral-bound book of fingerpicking patterns is right to the point--all the info you need with no filler. Clear tabs and he even gives brief explanations in Spanish as well as English. What is extra nice is that there are chord changes within the patterns, which will give you a much better idea of what you can do with them than the typical one chord per pattern I have seen elsewhere.

The accompanying CD is well indexed and well recorded at a medium-slow pace on a solo acoustic guitar.

This compilation of patterns is useful in many ways. As a buffet of different styles from different music genres, it may inspire you to look outside the box in terms of things you'd like to play. For a singer-songwriter, it is a feast of ideas for compositions, again because the patterns are setup against a background of chord progressions. This book/CD could be very useful in conjunction with a book such as "Chord Progressions For Songwriters" by Richard J. Scott (excellent book available also at Amazon.

Whether you just want to learn some fun patterns by listening to the CD and finding what appeals to you (I found about 40 out of the 101 that interested me) or use this smorgasbord approach to compose your own songs, you will find a winner here.
