I received this cookbook as a wedding shower gift in 1990. I've tried many of the recipes and have had wonder "feed" back. Now when I go to family get-togethers or company pot-lucks, people ask me to bring certain dishes from this book. I found the recipes to be easy, elegant and delicious. Note: My edition (1989)does not have calorie or nutritional break downs.

We still have our copy of "Nutbread and Nostalgia" from 1979 - the binding is ripped away, pages are rough on the edges, and my Mom still uses it all the time (she keeps it wrapped with a rubber band to keep it together).
I am SO happy to see that it's still in print - we were going to try to photocopy the entire book and re-bind it, but now I can just purchase a brand new one for my Mom!
There are probably about twelve recipes in here that became family favorites... I look forward to having a new copy for myself as well.

With four children my twin sister did a lot of cooking while they were all home. On our birthday, I would always give her a cookbook as we both like to "read" cookbooks and cook too. "Nutbread and Nostalgia" was purchased from a small kitchen store in Astoria, OR in 1987. I was having dinner with a friend at a nearby restaurant when I picked this gem of a cookbook out for my sister. I must have stood there for a long time looking at the various recipes (a sign that I am enthralled with the content). When it came to our birthday, I received a copy of the same book from my friend. What a treasure!

This book is filled with sepia toned photographs from the turn of the century and includes menu ideas and recipes of "comfort" food that I am sure you will enjoy.

Survivor still shows courage

This is a story of a women who kept the terrible secret of her life in concentration camps for over 50 years. It took courage to survive and perhaps more courage to share this story with her grandaughter. As she retells her story still her concern is not for herself but for the sadness she must expose to her family.
Shana Fogarty has been able to share her grandmothers story with us in a beautiful book.
This proved to be a interesting to me and my grandchildren as well.
Thank you for this wonderful and very important book.

I met the author, Shana Fogarty, at a book signing at the Holocaust Memorial Museum. After chatting with her, I bought the book for my son, who had just finished watching a production on the story of Anne Frank a few days before. I read Shana's interview with her grandmother, Elizabeth Blum Goldstein, and was very moved not just by what she experienced, but how she tried to insulate her family from the horrors of her youth and the loss of so much of her family. The matter of fact descriptions are truly harrowing. I am happy to think that she has found peace with letting her family know what she and other victims endured, and that her account is further testimony about why the world must fight man's inhumanity to man. I would caution that some aspects of the book may be too intense for young readers (my son is 11) unless really read and put in context with adult supervision. What Mrs. Goldstein endured, and the fact that she subsequently went on to to live a relatively normal family life with all this trauma in her background, is remarkable.

The Old Testament: ten plays for readers theater is exactly what I was looking for to help bring the Old Testament alive for my middle schoolers. Being able to move around and have text, coupled with the characterization, brings Bible stories to life for youngsters who may think they're "too cool" to take religion seriously. I'd buy more books like this.

I love this book!

The Old Testament: Ten Plays for Readers Theater, is a wonderful book! This book would be wonderful for a Sunday School class, a Christian school, or just to enjoy at home. I really enjoyed reading this book. It really makes the story sink in; the Bible is hard to understand, this book is more towards our level. This book provides a highly enjoyable way to learn the storys of the bible!

I was impressed by the selection of stories and the creative way she makes them accessible for both children and young adults. Teachers can pick and choose not only the focus of topic, but also the focus of the lesson since Ms. Davidson includes many creative activities that help bring the stories alive.

Every one of this series is read and enjoyed both for the tasty, homemade, loving recipes but equally for the hand drawn country illustraions. the spiral binding is handy in the kitchen and the cover makes it a cute addition to a shelf or table set up for the holidays.. No I don't work for the company I'm just a long time fan! Great for gifts, too. They are WELL received !

This book was definitely not a waste of money. It gives ideas for family traditions, homemade gifts, and lots of good recipes. This Gooseberry book would make a good holiday gift for any family member or friend who enjoys homemade items or craft activities.

I have several of the Gooseberry Patch cookbooks but I have to admit that this is one of my favorites! Mainly because I like reading about the traditions and I will read it all throughout the year. One of the best hints is to help defray the cost of a Christmas tree during the holiday season, we decorate an old coffee container and tape it around the top and throw in all of our loose change all year round and believe me by December you will have enough money to buy a very nice tree and it doesn't seem to hurt the pocket book so much.

When you want to play, and not work, at the piano!

Review Date: 2008-07-24
I play the piano, and have a huge collection of sheet music. But I couldn't resist this book when I saw it. The arrangements are easy, but they are not the large note, super simplified for children kind of "easy." I like this collection for when I want to sit down and not work too hard, or when I don't want to practice the "real" arrangement.
Not for very advanced pianists, but great for the casual tickler of the ivories - those of us who took lessons when we were young, but just "dabble" now.
Unlike another reviewer, I happen to like the way the table of contents lists the pieces by time period.

Fabulous!

I have only been playing the piano for eight months. I ordered this book, thinking I would, maybe, find one or two pieces I could play right away. Rather, I got a "piano bench" full of new music to learn. Not only was I thrilled, but my piano teacher was impressed also.

Great Collection

The Good:
1) A very wonderful and complete collection of classical songs. Can't tell exactly how many songs, probably 100-150+, nearly 400 pages.
2) Sturdy pages, plastic spiral binding - easy to open, STAYS open, pages can be removed if desired.
3) Nice compositions - songs sound close enough to originals, not so dumbed down that you can no longer recognize them.

The Bad:
1) Most of the pieces are *too* easy - I'm really not very good, and have never had lessons, but could play most everything in here right away - which is great if you just want to play for your family or friends, but if you want to learn, there's probably nothing in here that will challenge you. The alternative to this book, "The Piano Bench of Classical Music" (i.e., not easy classical music) is also a great collection but far far too difficult for anyone with less than years and years of lessons. I wish they made something in between the two... It's great that most of this book is easy, but a few more difficult pieces would have been nice.
2) The index of songs is pretty crummy - Sorted by period (Baroque, Romantic, etc) then by composer ... So if you don't know both, you might be looking for a while...

Overall:
The good far outweighs the bad, and I can't punish the book for being easy when that is what they were going for : ) 5 stars.

This is the book to have if you are identifing US Commerative Stamps. It has a "lay flat" coil plastic spine, and large colorful pictures with full item details. I've had the other books with the glued spine, and this is the best improvement I've seen. Amazon has the right products for all your needs, and at great affordable prices.

I've studied a lot of different "self-help" type of stuff over the years, so it takes a lot to impress me anymore. But Power Dialgues changed my life. It taught me how master myself from the inside, so that I can accomplish more of what I want on the outside. It taught me how to access my inner power and channel it into my life. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

PowerDialogues presents a wonderful tool for personal growth! With userfriendly, clear and simple explanations, and also examples, you can learn the basis of this tool which allows everyone to uncover self-limiting beliefs and become free of their accompanying uncomfortable feelings. This method takes into account the whole person (mind, heart, emotions and behaviors)! I recommend it to everyone, professional or not.

Use this book and unlock the ties that bind you inside!

I cannot recommend Power Dialogues too strongly. I have always been "successful," but have spent decades in and out of therapy, prayer groups, etc. in an attempt to feel better on the inside. All of those approaches were good and helpful, but at I best I made incremental process. However, using the simple tools and questioning process in Power Dialogues, I gained the most powerful, dramatic and breakthrough insights I've ever had. I learned that I was creating my anxiety and fear and shaky confidence - not the challenging circumstances around me. I also learned that I was creating those feelings as a strategy to take care of myself, and that I could freely chose better, more effective and more enjoyable strategies. I have told all my family and friends about this approach and hope that you will try it out for yourself too.

Of all of my cookbooks that I have collected over the years, this is one that I turn to time after time... it is one of my all-time favorites! The recipes are super and I can always find inspiration when I need something yummy and special. Try the "Flawless Hollandaise" and you will be assured that this recipe alone is worth the price of the book! (I'll be making Eggs Benedict for New Years Day brunch using that recipe and will, once again, get raves from my guests!)

What a great idea! A set of thourough and complete assessment guidelines that the student nurse can carry in their pocket. They are color coded by system, making information easy to find. Using them routinely helps the student to reinforce assessment knowledge each time they refer to them. I would reccommend them to all nursing programs.
