Great Fabric Reference

I've had this book for about six years and I still consult it at least monthly. Fabric vendors love to use hundred-year-old cryptic terms to describe fabric, most terms referring to the manufacturing method. Having never made my own fabric, I am not familiar with these terms. This book closes the gap and explains how the fabric is made, where it originated from, the predominant use of the fabric and its sewing characteristics. If you have a fabric stash, you need this book.

I also have the Silk and Wool books which are equally good (though I don't sew on wool or silk nearly as much as cotton).

A great reference for fabric artists.

The only fabric book comes with real fabric swatches. A great reference for fabric artists. You know how sometimes you want to achieve certain quality but don't know what material to use. The description of each fabric helps me to choose the right material for the right projects and make sure it stays that way forever. I also learn more materials for my fabric sculpture. I finally found this ideal book after so many years.

All three books in this series are invaluable!

I love fabric and love to sew, but don't really know much about the fabrics I use. These books are so well-designed and well-written that it is a joy to learn from them. Be sure to buy the versions with the fabric samples included - that's what makes these books so special!

Excellent and entertaining look at human dispair. An entirely Nagelbergian (see, "ManFallingBackwardsDownstairs") adventure in getting wasted in Chicago. I enjoy reading "The Anger Report" most while releaving myself after a long night of drinking, particularly, after visits to Wrigley Field. Nagelberg has carved a sliver in the cork that bottles his mind - we should all take a peek. OH,and, NO this is NOT Bukowski revisited. SKOL!!

This collection of free form poems is the reading equivalent of burring you face in a bucket of glass shards. Whether it's too much harsh reality, a disturbing dream, or a booze induced violent rampage, the poems contained in The Anger Report are meant to shock. Individually they can be taken as a look through a very dissatisfied, very troubled, and very drunk mind. Or when taken as a whole, the poems equal a suicide manual for the human race. So crack open a beer and enjoy the Armageddon within.

Disturbing and intoxicating (literally you might need a drink during or by the end). Lets just say I had to seek some lighthearted form of entertainment soon after reading the book. My advice is to read it in doses since the content is pretty heavy but definitely worth buying.

Being from a small town and now living away from it this book is like having my little aunties giving me their secert recipes... God rest their soul! I wish I had been old enough to ask them for them personally, but I found a lot of them in these two books. This is one of the two Mayberry cookbooks I own.

NOT ONLY DELIGHTFUL BUT ESSENTIAL FOR EVERY KITCHEN!

I purchased this cookbook out of the fondness I held for the television show and thought it would make a novel conversation piece when guests linger in my kitchen. Aunt Bee's Delightful Deserts has become an essential desert cookbook not only for my dinners but family gatherings, cookouts, and parties. Lorranie's Fudge has become a Christmas tradition! The photos from the television show with kooky captions along with the recipes make cooking from this book as delightful as Mayberry itself. A must for any cook.

Delightful is right!

This cookbook delightful to use and to peruse! It is a collection of 350 "small town" recipes from cast, friends and guest artists from the show. Trivia and snapshots are sprinkled throughout.

All the recipes I have tried in the cookbook have been very accurate. No missing ingredients. No temperatures wrong. The index is thorough: recipes by name and by major ingredient. The recipes are easy to follow and come out tasty too!

The names are unique: Remember Gomer telling Barney "Citizen's arrest!! Citizen's arrest!!" Well, "Citizen's Arrest Chocolate Cheesecake" would be worth a night in the slammer with Otis! It's that good!

Every recipe I have tried has become a favorite: "My Name Ain't Clem Applesauce Cake" "Wally's 7-Up(r) Pound cake" "Ellie's Apple Crisp"....

Delightful is right! For reading, cooking and eating!

This book has everything to help kids wonder about science through hands-on projects. I recommend it highly, and I've been working with kids for years. You won't run out of ideas in this big big book. The only downside is chosing which ones to do!

This book is a "must have" for elementary teachers.

Elementary teachers! This is the one you've been looking for. This is a collection of very do-able experiments, with easy to understand directions for students (and teacher), materials that are readily available, and covering every science topic taught in grades 4-6. And the best part: If your science background is a little limited, this book has a quick, to the point, explanation of each experiment-it states what will happen and why. In my opinion, this book is aptly titled "The Best..."

Is my favorite cookbook ever, and I'm not even blonde! The recipes are easy and foolproof-yet the results are worthy of even the most sophisticated dinner party or a quick family meal. As a cook, I have always had to keep a sense of humor about my attempt at culinary greatness, but with this book, I get a chuckle out of the humorous approach without the feat of failure.

I loved it! I had so much fun reading it, I couldn't wait to get to the next page. The recipes are good and it is hard to decide which ones to try first. Since I'm a blonde, my husband loved reading all the blonde jokes found among the recipes. Can't recommend it for bedtime reading because you'll want to get up and fix something... It also makes a great gift!

With my busy schedule, a hungry husband and two daughters to feed, I like a cookbook with recipes that require ingredients that I usually have in my kitchen. This cookbook fits that requirement! These are simple but delicious recipes that everyone enjoys. They think I have spent hours in the kitchen cooking (luckily I haven't)!

I highly recommend this extraordinary cookbook to everyone. I have been looking everywhere for this, so I am very happy to have found it on Amazon. The recipes by themselves are terrific, but this cookbook offers so much more -- tidbits and insights on family values, Christianity and related topics. The author is the lady behind the very successful "Light Weigh" weight loss program that has been featured on EWTN and various newspapers around the county. These make great gifts. Bon appetit!

I met Suzanne at a conference and heard her speak. She is wonderful and her cookbook feeds more than your stomach, it feeds your faith as well. The stories of the saints are great and her tips for building up the faith in your family are very helpful. A wonderful gift for any Catholic friend!

An Old Standby

Review Date: 2007-06-12
I first bought this book while living in Natchitoches, LA around 30 years ago. My copy is yellowed with heavy use and spotted with a few decades of southern cooking. My children are grown now and live in different states. After years of phone calls requesting recipes from this book, that they remembered from their childhoods, I purchased each of the four grown children a copy of this cookbook for Christmas this last year. They were all thrilled with their copies. Not only does it bring them all the recipes they cherished from when they were growing up, but the pages hold a ton of childhood memories for them, as many of their early cooking experiences came from the pages of this book. I was thrilled to find I could still find them copies. If you want southern cooking at it's best, you can't go wrong with this book. The recipes all come from tried and true southern cooks and from true regional cuisine...not from some test kitchen somewhere.

This is not my first time owning this book. I am actually replacing the edition my Grandmother gave me in 1988. I loaned it to someone about 3 years ago and she still hesitates to tell me when I will get it back. I don't like the fact that I haven't gotten it back but I understand why I haven't

"Cane River Cuisine" is a wonderful collection of time tested recipes by local Louisana cooks. The recipes are interesting, relatively easy to prepare and for the most part, appealing to a variety of tastes. In my opinion, it is a good cross section of Louisana cooking styles, ingredients and tastes. I say this because some of my family members come from Baton Rouge and New Orleans so I have some experience with Louisana cooking styles.

My favorite recipe in this book is the meat pies featured on the first page. The pies remind me of the ones my mother made when I was a kid. They are meaty, spicy and the crust is flaky and tender. I have served them as a main course and made smaller versions to serve as appetizers for parties. They have turned out wonderfully every time.

I have enjoyed cooking from this book. However, some people who shy away from "comfort foods" might be put off by the types of oils, cooking methods (frying) and high calorie ingredients in some of the recipes. Restraint is all though. Eating these foods (or any food) in moderation is the key maintaining one's health while enjoying some really good eats.

The book has everything you will need to cook a down home Southern meal from clever appetizers to rich, delicious deserts.

Enjoy it!

A bit of southern heaven!!

I cannot say enough about how functional and interesting this cookbook is. I have a closet full of cookbooks, but this is my personal "no fail" favorite. My first was worn out from many years of use, and I gladly purchased my second copy. The recipes are outstanding, and the arrangement of the list of ingredients as well as the cooking instructions are easy to follow. This book is a fascinating glimpse into the delicious world of southern cooking. If you are interested in purchasing a cookbook you will use over and over, not just thumb through and place on a shelf, this is it. Forks up to those who compiled and illustrated it!

In search of a healthier lifestyle, I have been trying to limit my carb intake. A friend recommended this cookbook to me. Having tried many of the recipes in this cookbook, I can attest that not only are the recipes creative but also delicious. With the combination of meals prepared from this cookbook and getting regular exercise, I'm feeling healthy and have more energy than I've had in years. My doctor reported that my blood sugar level is balanced and I have finally lost weight. The desserts are awesome! I am so thankful for finding this cookbook. Thank you Elizabeth Caldwell!

Elizabeth's cookbook is unlike any other carb-free cookbook you'll find. I simply cannot believe the taste of these recipes. They are DELICIOUS and so good for you! She provides a great list of resources as well, specific brands that she recommends for each type of food. It is very helpful. The recipes are well written and easy to read, they are also kept short and sweet. I HIGHLY recommend this book and I hope she writes another soon!!!!

Review Date: 2007-08-13
My husband and I bought this music to play for a garden party. We are intermediate players and I found several pieces for the flute pretty easy to sight read. Some of the harder pieces can be done with practice. There is a CD provided with all the songs from the book on it, which makes it a LOT easier to pick up the melody and rythyms.

The harder part is the guitar. My husband is not a classical player and is self-taught so he had a more difficult time with his music, so he did not play on these pieces for the garden party, but instead played along on a mountain dulcimer - which sounded very nice also. The music is delightful and a refreshing change from a lot of flute music out there.

I have had this book and CD for over 2 years now and it is my favorite.IT is absolutely beautiful. The music is touching to the heart and soul. THe music has such feeling. It is so easy to play on the flute.I am impressed that music written so simple can sound so pretty. The Cd plays all 44 songs on flute and guitar in harmony. The CD is beautiful just on it's own. I listen to it almost every day. This is the best music book i have ever seen. My music teacher was impressed by the music in the book also and will be ordering one for herself. The music would be great to be played at weddings or special engagements.
I think jessica and alex did a wonderful job ! This book deserves more than 5 stars.I also want to say some of the music is hundreds of years old, and the feeling i get when i play it takes me away to another century along time ago. It is very romantic!Very easy to play, very simple music theory.
