Not only is this a magnificent self-help book for self-esteem to be read by "children" of all ages, but it helps to answer the age-old question, "Who Am I?" Whether male or female, 8 or 108, this will surely be a book to treasure and pass down for generations. It's a little book with a volume of discoveries.

Ms. Davidson is to be commended for helping us bring the stories to life for our students, but we should take care to not dilute the Greeks, as has been done till recent times. Teaching the Greeks is an ideal opportunity to let our students find out about the history of same-sex love, so that we can cut homophobia (and self-hate for the 10% of our students who are gay) at the root. This need not be a big deal, for the stories are innocent enough, and can be found in the Lives of Plutarch, the works of Andrew Calimach, and others. So buy Josephine Davidson book, but overcome its limitations by using it as a starting point in teaching the real Greeks, not Walt Disney's version.

Ms. Davidson has provided an excellent overview of Greek myths complete with a wide variety of comprehensive exercises. I am most impressed by the original concept and well as the extensive glossary and lists of discussion questions teachers can use as they pick and choose from the many lessons.

This book would be extremaly helpful to a teacher!

This is a wonderful book! It helps you to learn Greek Myths, while having fun. If a teacher was to have her class act out the plays, they would get to know Greek Myths, and be able to remember the characters, too. I love this book! I am an 8th grader and I think it would be benifical, as well as fun, to use this book in the class room!

This book has become my Bible for teaching mythology to seventh graders. The first year I used it, I was almost overwhelemed by the number of resources, but now (2 years later), I am absolutely loving it! The kids love the dramatic aspect of the unit, and I enjoy watching what they add to the plays. I recommend it highly!

This book is just right for a busy teacher doing a unit on mythology. The plays, the tests, the activities, the games, the questions: the author did all the work for me! I can tell she really taught this stuff; her material is perfectly pitched to the age and activity level. Satisfying to work with!

About the best book for sanity

Unfortunately [I say because it isn't perfect but almost is] I say this book is the best book for becoming saner. It is more straight forward and easier to understand than Guide to Rational Living by Ellis and Harper. Of course the author uses toilet language and sort of a 'I can take it if that's what it really is, watch me kick its butt' [paraphrase]. But the LOGIC is there.
What I would like Mr Miller to do is right something similar to How to Live with a Neurotic, since I am an abused spouse.

Such a good book based on REBT.
It puts the main irrational thoughts into easy to remember (and creative) statements. It's just an excellent explanation which helps reinforce REBT principles. One of my top 3 favorite REBT books.

Now understand why MOST self-help books DO NOT work. You read, you feel better -- but, do nothing to change your behavior. Tom unlocks the key to true behavior change. What has been holding you back? Why do you feel guilty, mad, sad? Tired of being manipulated? Tom will open the door to true power of your behavior and why you do what you do -- although you know it may not be the best. Thought provoking, irritating, maddening and incredible describe this book. Order it today.

The Book That Won't Let You Kid Yourself.
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-16
The problem with most self help books is that they can't make you study and apply them. If you were studying say geology, chemistry or sociology, you know that if all you did was just read the text book from cover to cover, you would have little hope of passing any exam. Yet that is what most people do when they want to help themselves.

The "Unfair Advantage" doesn't let you get away with this. You don't read this book, you do it. Have your pen or pencil ready, as you will be filling in a lot of spaces doing the exercises. The diagrams and exercises will unambiguously show you how and where you are doing yourself in. And how to rectify it. And some of those exercises are just plain cunning.

The book is based on the ideas of Albert Ellis's Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (i.e. it's not one of those business hype books, or some New Age spiritual awakening type book - it is legitimate psychology). It tackles problems of depression, anger, rage, inadequacy, embarrassment, anxiety, shyness, inferiority and hurt.

The only thing I didn't like about it was the title - the only "Advantage" is to yourself, and I can't see anything "Unfair" about it. The author states what the working title for the book was, "You're not a sh#t, and I can prove it". This equates with Ellis's ideas e.g. that shyness is a high class term for sh#thood.

I think the working title more accurately reflects the book's content. Perhaps it's time for a new edition, changing only the title of this amazingly well thought out book.

The author has put her heart and soul into this amazing book which covers just about everything you need to know to start a home business!

In all my years reviewing books, I have never come across one so packed with useful information on this topic. Although the subject matter is very broad, Vick breaks each topic down into manageable subjects offering insight and wisdom within each one.

Establishing the legal status of your business is an important first step and the options are explained very well. Of course, being an accountant myself, I was very interested in the chapter on business taxes which proved to be comprehensive and easy to read.

With the internet offering endless possibility for the business world, a large section of the book is dedicated to website strategies and promotion. Vick has obviously done her homework and compiled extensive resources for free website hosting, free internet access and free website submission services which provide an affordable way to get your business off the ground.

Profiles from successful professionals have been included offering both advice and encouragement as you enter this realm.

A fabulous book at an incredible price! I definitely recommend reading this book if you are considering the idea of working at home. You will not be disappointed!

I read about this book awhile back and ordered it online from Tom Laughlin's website. Well, after it finally arrived I sat down to read it and was pleasantly surprised as to just how insightful it was as to just what are the key ingredients that almost all successful movies, books, plays, etc. have in them.

Much like Joseph's Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces looks into the mythological archetypes and the hero's journey, this book - delving into Jungian archetypes - manages to break down into what makes a movie work or not work, and provides examples of each.

It's definitely changed my outlook into writing and will probably change yours too!

You would think that an entire industry spending billions in marketing feature length films for decades would have spent a few million to do research in to what makes a film a hit (or a bomb). But they don't, because if the studio heads knew what this book dispenses then they would look like the fools that they are or be laughed out of the board room!
I highly recommend this research for anyone, especially potential film investors!
If you are a producer looking for a hit screenplay, you need to know these elements when you pour through all the scripts and treatments to find that gem. If you don't know these secrets you risk gambling on a major loss, a negative return on your investment, which will sour you from being a part of the positive experience that is making films that will touch a persons heart.
If you're a screenwriter who wants to know all those "lies your film teacher told you" then buy this book now!
If you're an avid film goer, you might be interested in knowing what secrets got you to see a movie or not.
This is a multiple read. Get it!

I am an actor and independent producer in Hollywood. PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! I want to be the only one in Hollywood with the secrets to making blockbuster movies! What amazes me is that for all the movie marketing we have in Hollywood -- and don't let anyone kid you, they are marketing geniuses -- they don't pay attention to the market research that Tom has done because it didn't get passed down the chain from a studio head. Too bad -- but when I head my own studio I will pass it down and they'll think I'M a genius. Meanwhile, ssshhhhhh! Please! :) Leo Grillo

Tom Laughlin is the premier role model of the independent, maverick movie maker. This book analyzes the nine key ingrediants which yeilds a successful movie, TV show, or novel. Written by someone who is a legend in his own time, it not only explains in detail about the nine ingrediants, but how to use those ingrediants for maximum results. In case anybody doesn't know who Tom Laughlin is, he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in all of the Billy Jack movies. He has a proven track record in the industry. He is also one of the leading Jungian psychotherapists in the world, so you also get a lot of information on the psychologcial aspects of what makes a blockbuster movie, TV show, novel, etc. Should be required reading for anyone interested in film-making.

The intro book was excellent, so it was a no-brainer getting the advanced book. The advanced book provided excellent help for me as a new PowerBuilder user. As soon as you open the book, you're already learning plenty of tips that will help you later. Yes, this info is in PowerBuilder help, but here it's all in a nice, consise 'get-to-the-point' format. This book is used in the company's actual advanced class, so you also get a disk with exercises and solutions. The price may seem a little much for some, but for someone having to learn this quickly, which makes sense economically - 1)spend a couple of thousand in some 3 day 'quick' class or 2)spend a couple of hundred and get what you need without leaving your desk? This book is definitely worth it. The chapters on the datawindow report presentation styles (tabular, grid, etc) are excellent!
