Dated but still contains some useful information on collaborative concepts
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

This book is very dated now and the product-specific sections and case-studies do not hold much relevance in today's world. However the first third of the book does provide a good introduction to the (non-product specific) underlying concepts and theory behind collaborative solutions such as Email, Workflow, Document Management etc.

I love Gerry & the Pacemakers. I collect biographies and this one was definitely "lighter than air". Typically in a biography (especially a BAND biography) you get to read about the interaction with the bandmembers, how they met, how they fought, how they split up... we want dirt you know? The sex the drugs and the rock 'n roll? Well there's none of that here. Zippo. In all fairness this book is NOT about Gerry AND THE PACEMAKERS, it's about GERRY. In that sense, the book is fair. It's so one-sided though, it reads as if he's the only inhabitant of planet Earth. Perhaps it's a well-raised English characteristic that unless others want their lives published, we'll walk a wide berth around that topic, but there's no meat whatsoever here. He talks a little about his relationship with is manager (Brian Epstein) and he talks a bit about his friendship with Lennon; he tends to draw comparisons between his band and the Beatles, especially during the early `60's, and he talks a fair amount about his charity work, but as far as "others" are concerned, that's pretty much it. His personality bleeds through his writing, so that's neat, he covers his childhood fairly well - the jobs he held, his relationship with his parents... hardly a word on his own brother though, like he was never in the house or something. I dunno - I've read so much better as far as biographies go, I was really disappointed, both as a fan and as a collector of biographies. You know how much I PAID for this book? Something ridiculous like $80! You could say I was expecting a good return on my investment! All I got was a relatively slender hard cover book with two small segments of mostly black & white photos, and what I described earlier.

Check out his website, I say; save yourself a lot of money. It's probably just as informative as his book, and all the pictures that are in the book are on his webpage - it's a no-brainer.

This little booklet does have some cute fresh ideas for kids. However, because it is Australian some of the ingrediants, measurements and terminology are a little unfamiliar and confusing.

I should've paid closer attention to the age recommendation for this book, because this wasn't Joe Coleman, the underground comic artist and painter, but some other guy with the same name. What it is, though, is a nice little book about Greek Mythology that I'm sure your kid would enjoy.

Good storytelling and character development but ...

Maggie White wants nothing more than to sing country songs. Stardom isn't a necessity. She loves singing-and it's all she has ever wanted to do. However, breaking into the music isn't easy. Such is the premise for Chrissy Coleman's debut novel, Nashville Skyline.

Maggie has already found a job and a mentor in Nashville, but it's not enough. She needs a producer, someone with connections that will record her. As she makes the rounds, producer after producer confirms what she already knows: she had talent.

While the songs and the beat of country music has changed dramatically in the last fifty years, one tiny detail has not. If a girl wants to make it big, she's expected to put out. Maggie struggles with her upbringing that that isn't something a girl should do. Still. It seems that man after man uses Maggie, but never breaks her spirit when they don't help her.

That's one of the downsides of Nashville Skyline. The first hundred pages or so are weak sex scenes. Yet her spirit, that something compelling about Maggie White, kept me reading. Then Maggie meets Reggie. Reggie has a club and makes Maggie his weekend singer. And yes, there is a sexual price to pay. Reggie--a wealthy, transplanted New Yorker-takes her as his mistress. As her climb to the top begins, Maggie finds herself falling in love with him. And he with her.

Nashville Skyline's pacing and structure is well-done. Reggie's New York accent was annoying, but it has more to do with the character than any fault of Chrissy Coleman's. Besides the rather weak first third of the novel, one problem caused the book to be given three starts as opposed to four. That is the sloppy editing. It's prevalent throughout the 294 pages and kept pulling me out of the story. Yet, the character development kept tugging at me to read about Maggie and her quest to sing country songs. I'll be eager to see Coleman's second novel.

Armchair Interviews says: Another good story where poor editing detracts from the power of the story and characters.

A helpful survey of pilgrimage in world religions
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-02
The concept of 'Pilgrimage' is a universal one common to all the religions. As an outward expression of one's inner faith such sacred journeys are encourged in all the religions. This ritual also offers layers of meaning for an earnest pilgrim. The authors attempt successsfully to trace the origin and development of the theology and practice of such pilgrimages in the different world religions like Judaism, Islam, Christianity and Hinduism. A separate chapter is devoted most appropriately, to the Indian religions. A student would find the book very valuable and a pilgrim would be fascinated by the information. The book is illustrated with beautiful photographs from various parts of the world.

a careful guide on investing in emerging equity markets
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 7 total.

This book is a must for those seeking to diversify their portfolios. Mitchell Postner has shown the pros and cons of investing in emerging markets, such as the high currency and political risk and the high rewards that come in investing in companies that are poised to grow at a rate faster than what one would expect in North American markets.
