A Wonderful Adventure Story!!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-06-04
I recently read The Wings of an Angel and found it to be a very good adventure story for all ages. The book is filled with wonderful characters and action packed hair raising plots. The story is very descriptive and I as the reader could almost visualize the different characters, in their story lines, trying to get out of the way of evil, by dualing evil demons in other dimensions, etc. This story remains me of a Harry Potter book, filled with the same type of action and with a moral philosophy undertone. It was some what of a surprise and refreshing to see the saintly, angelic, characters of the bible, which I grew up reading about and to have them come alive in a action filled story line, other than those in the bible, is a great way to get the word of God out to the masses. Finally,I really would love to see this story made into a Video Game and to see the Archangels Gabriel, Michael and the Angel of Death Jayco, in a sword, lighting bolt fight with the Horde Demons, would be awesome!!! I would love to play a game like that!!

in depth and specific - great winter gardening guide

When I first received the spiral bound book I must say I thought I was going to be disapointed. But once I started delving into the contents of the book I was more than happy that I had made the purchase. Coleman uses this book as an opertunity to offer updated information and further detail on winter harvesting for market with very specific varieties for each vegetable, methods and timelines for production and well outlined information on marketing and cold weather covers and high and low tunnels. I highly recommend this book as a permanent reference on every serious gardener's and small farmer's bookshelf.

A Gorgeous fashion book
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-23
This is a gorgeous book: the costumes are photographed in full color with large reproductions. Cincinnati obviously has many wonderful pieces in its museum. There are 43 full color (or should I say colour, to go with the title) of costume. A few are details of a costume shown in another plate, otherwise the plates most often contain one, but sometimes 2 or 3 costumes. The pictures have brief captions with them, and more detailed information is included towards the end of the book. There are, in addition, more than 20 black and white historic illustrations.

This has a more substantial text than many similar works. The are separate chapters on "Acquiring a French Wardrobe", "The Fabric Scrapbooks of Hannah Ditzler Alspaugh, "Healthful, Artistic and Correct Dress". the bulk of the text is a review of fashion from 1837-1912. The text is happily divided into shorter time periods for a more detailed and meaningful discussion. This modern reader smiled at seeing the styles for 1866-1868 described as "severe", although of course, in context that makes sense. The divisions are not be a set scheme, but according to what the author deems best giving the flow of fashion.

There is much additional factual material: a list of abbreviations, a list of sources cited, notes, a glossary, a bibliography and a detailed index. Not only eye-candy, but a good research source.

I'm glad that I didn't wear, or worse, have to clean this kind of clothing, but as always for this period, the dresses are swooningly beautiful.

The book has been very informative. As Secretary of a Homeowners Association I found information about committees and how to run our Association very useful. I would recommend this book to any Homeowner and member of the board of an association because it will help you to understand the importance of having a Homeowners Association and how important it is to participate in the management of the community in which you live.

Brent Coleman courageously exposes his personal odyssey
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2002-05-23
This is a somewhat autobiographical story of the author's life as a young man trying to find his way in a world that imposes itself on his inquisitive self. As part of this arduous journey, Mr. Coleman took up the pen and boldly tells a story that few would have the energy or strength to lay before the public eye.

In doing so he tells a tale that needs to be told of a gay boy who finds self acceptance and love as a gay man. The book is broken into the two major parts: The wounding years and the healing years. This is more than just a book of recovery from religious wounding, though. It is somewhat a story of philosophical journey. It is a story of the author's life told with humor and clarity and without reservation. I felt as though I were living the experiences with the author as I read the story. There may be other religious recovery books, and books about gay men finding themselves in an unsupportive culture; but I have yet to see a story of the two combined together in the way the author does here. He details the grueling psychological and emotional work that lies before the gay man who is lost in fundamental Christian thinking; and demonstrates that it can be done.

In exposing the inner workings of a man fighting many odds to gain his self, the author provides vivid images of conversations and experiences that helped him forge his way. He learns as he goes that the `truths' he learned as a youth may not necessarily be true; and that in order to find yourself you must be willing to take chances and challenge your own thinking (as well as the thinking around you). He wrote the book in three short months following the aftermath of the events of September 11. In doing so he shows us the courage and vulnerability it will likely take to forge a world that can live together peaceably.

As the author states, many have died in the name of God. I think he teaches us that if this is to change, we must all be willing to question those things we consider to be `Truth.' Perhaps his tale will help us realize that we need to challenge ourselves so we have the ability to live according to the Golden Rule genuinely from our hearts. I would like to thank him for telling his story and vividly reminding me of the tender moments in my own journey. Congratulations on a meaningful work, Mr. Coleman

This book is an excellent read. If you're looking for a little romance, a little drama, grab a glass of wine and cuddle up with yourself. This book has it all. Action, drama and love all intertwined with vision. Talk about keeping it real, I'm impressed. Who knew this could be done?

Great ideas for youth group events!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-08-22
This is a fantastic resource for church youth groups. It has fun and unusual games for crowd breakers and relationship building in the group. Has entertaining and thought provoking questionaires to use to get to know each other and to study the Bible. Some games/activities OK with elementary age kids, but really suited for mid and high schoolers. Based on 3 components of youth ministry - group building, spiritual understanding, and service/outreach. Can be used to plan a year long program that first empahsizes group building and then transitions more to spritual understanding and service. Or can be picked from when you just need ideas for activities, games or bible study.

This story is a must read. It's captivating descriptions make you feel right there with the characters. You can smell every scent, hear each song and feel every emotion! I could not put it down! Zapata's Horse became a real band and I want to play their records and hang out at one of the stops along their road of existance.
Worth every penny! I will be first in line to buy the next Joseph Coleman release!
