I really enjoyed this book. It is full of great photos and is a fun and easy read for kids (and adults too). It has a ton of interesting historical information and is perfect for any kid with an inquisitive mind and an interest in history and invention.

This features great songs for auditions that used to be common in auditions. They are perfect for today because most people have forgotten about them. Seesaw has great songs you can do a lot with and you might just be the only one at your audition who's doing it!

"This is the most impressive magazine debut I've come across in ages - and to have it be intelligent, rich, and detailed -- and about the blues -- is just plain remarkable. You need to read this!"
-- Dennis McNally
Author, A Long Strange Trip: The Inside History of the Grateful Dead
"This magazine is beautifully produced. Nice clear layout with professional graphics and literate writing. The designers and all involved are to be congratulated for an auspicious debut."
-- Sam Andrew Big Brother and the Holding Company, The Kozmic Blues Band
"Van Gogh's ear, Mrs. Annie's bread pudding, Levon Helm's drums and Buddy Guy's guitar. What do they have in common? You'll find them all in the impressive first issue of the high-tech and low-down Seventh Hour Blues."
-- radio host and jazz writer Jason Crane
"The world is tearing itself apart! War, volcanoes, tsunamis! And YOU publish a magazine about the BLUES?! THANK YOU!!
P.S.: I LOVED the piece about Van Gogh! Who knew?"

I stumbled across this book in the tiny library in Casa Grande, Arizona, during one of the roughest times in my life. Ms. Coleman's strength, vibrant images of the Southwest, and willingness to get out there and struggle to find a new self, were so inspiring and comforting for me.
This should be a "coming of age book" for every woman in that spectacular time in her life. It also needs to be shared with daughters.
I was working on the Pima Reservation at the time, and the author's descriptions of the mountains and the majestic landscape truly captured the stark beauty that is so captivating. One gentleman I worked with was disabled, but even with the intellect of a seven year old he could, with a box of crayons, reproduce the deep shadows and myriad colors that she so lovingly painted with words.
The book is a very quick read, but definitely a "keeper."

The year is 1866. Eleven-year-old Addy, along with the rest of her family, are absolutely thrilled to learn that Poppa's new boss, Mr. Radisson, has invited her family to live in a beautiful little house on his property, in Philadelphia's exclusive Society Hill. The neighborhood is elegant and breathtaking, and Addy is ecstatic to have the chance to occupy such a beautiful home. However, before Addy's family has even settled into their new place, they are accosted by a vicious policeman who accuses them of being thieves, and having no right to trek through the private community. The encounter leaves Addy, along with Momma, her younger sister, Esther, her older brother, Sam, and Poppa, upset at the way the world works, but does not make them forget where they are headed. The home is absolutely beautiful, and, for the first time in her life, Addy is able to occupy a lovely feather bed that is warm and comfortable, and Momma is able to find work along with Poppa. Addy hopes that her family will be able to stay on Mr. Radisson's property for a long time. But within just a few hours, Addy begins to realize that her new home holds some very dark, dangerous secrets. Secrets that could certainly turn Addy's family into the cold night, and leave Mr. Radisson's jaw hanging open. Addy is determined to discover just what is going on in Mr. Radisson's house. The mysterious lights she sees through the window, the strange colored woman she has seen walking around the property in the dead of night, the piece of paper she found with her name scrawled in large letters upon it. All of these things leave Addy frightened, yet curious. However, when her curiosity lands her in deep trouble, and she learns that one of the dangerous secrets at Mr. Radisson's place leads directly back to the plantation her family escaped two-years ago, back in North Carolina, where they were slaves, Addy realizes that maybe coming to Mr. Radisson's place wasn't the best thing for her family. In fact, with a little more searching, Addy soon begins to come to the conclusion that, perhaps, Mr. Radisson's home is the worst place for Addy and her family.
While I have read many AMERICAN GIRL books, I have never once read anything about Addy. Which is why I was so excited to learn that an Addy mystery, SHADOWS ON SOCIETY HILL, was being published. From the very first page, I found Addy to be a brave, heroic character, whose ability to toss her cares away, and put her life on the line for someone else - be it her family, her friends, or a stranger - is admirable. However, it's her sleuthing skills, and her determination to find civil rights for the colored people of the world that truly make her an appealing character. Addy's tale is engrossing, and full of suspense at every turn that truly keeps the reader hooked. Oddly enough, I usually am able to figure out mysteries before the end of the book. However, with SHADOWS ON SOCIETY HILL, Evelyn Coleman has woven such a tightly-knit mystery, that it is impossible to even figure out exactly what is hiding around the next bend. Coleman's ability to keep the reader guessing until the very last page is amazing, while her conclusion is utterly unexpected, and completely original. Coleman brings Addy, and civil rights to life in this riveting tale of suspense and intrigue!

The author has displayed a full knowledge of appropriate methodology and comprehensive approach to the subject.
Although the content is limited to the UK case, the book is full of overwhelming information for an expert who wants to compare the cases with other developments elsewhere.
It is an example of "country study" for the shopping centre industry that should be repeeated by other writers in other markets.
It could have been useful to have a c0-author specializing onthe economics-marketing side of the subject.

Later Sam Davis was asked to tell who gave him the secret documents that were found on him when he was captured. Davis refused to reveal ANY information to Gen. Dodge, saying,"I know, general, that I will have to die, but I will not tell where I got the information, and there is no power on earth that can make me tell. I am doing my duty as a soldier, and if I have to die I shall be doing my duty to God and my country."
This book, first published in 1947, provides a great summary of his life, as well as a section on monuments and tributes to Davis following the war. And it also has a detailed genealogy of Davis' family. There are also several great photos showing the interior and exterior of the Sam Davis home, which has thankfully been restored and remains open to the public to this day. I've visited and toured his home many times, and I highly recommend that any tourists traveling nearby (it's located in Smyrna, TN) take time to see that beautiful place.
Unfortunately, this book is out-of-print and has become quite rare. I myself have only seen two copies for sale, one for $27.00 (-the one I bought) and one for $75.00. However, this book is defintely worth searching for, as it is one of the few Sam Davis biographies that I know of. I also recommend "The story of Sam Davis" by W.B. Romine, "Lest we forget: Sam Davis" by William F. Currotto, and "Sam: the Civil War experiences of Private Samuel Davis" by Beverly A. Rude. This book is highly recommended for all history buffs.
