Taking on Tansey's and Kleiner's Gardner's Art through the Ages can be a formidable task, for it goes into great depth about art from the prehistoric caves at Altamira and Lascaux through more modern work from artists like Pollock. This Study Guide helps the student learn art history and cut through the seemingly unimportant words. In answering the review questions, the reader actually is exposed to the prose of the text and does not realize that he is reading the book somewhat comprehensively. Adding to the success of this study guide are the discussion questions that provoke thought in the student and help train him to evaulate the art critically. I am a high school student in Advanced Placement Art History and hated studying. Now, with the study guide, art is a pleasure; I am even considering it as my major in college!

This is an excellent book for the jazz experts and for the ones who are only familiar with the more pop-jazz acts, like Sade. Well, I fall in the latter category and I found myself really getting into "Such Sweet Thunder." At fist I thought that the book would only appeal to the jazz pros, but I was proven wrong as soon as I read the first few chapters. I learned so much about this true American art form by reading Baszak's book. At the same time, "Such Sweet Thunder" enabled me to branch out of my pop-jazz comfort zone and begin to explore other aspects of jazz.

Lincoln, Clemenceau, Churchill and Ben- Gurion's stories are told in this work, especially in regard to their relation to the military under their command. All four were strong leaders who focused in war on military victory but did not allow themselves to become subordinate to or enslaved by their military leaders. All four had the great ability to concentrate on the ultimate goal, and put all their force behind it to achieve it. They too showed an ability to listen to and learn from subordinates. And as leaders of their respective nations knew how to inspire others to follow them. Cohen's study is magnificently insightful, always interesting , filled with understanding of the complexities of democratic rule. It will be of great value and great pleasure especially to those who take interest in military and political affairs.

This account of a woman's life is told from the heart of her granddaughter. It is written from the grandmother's perspective of her own life in a period of history that I knew very little about. She tells of the losses and horrors of war and the rebuilding of life. It's a true story of how the spirit endures. The artwork created to accompany the book is very moving. I wish I had known the woman in the story.

This is a worthwhile book written in a crisp style. Recipes are straightforward and simple. I strongly recommend this book for serious cooks

As far as the book's content is concerned, I knew what to expect. Frankfurt has long been one of the most rigorous, insightful, and engaging philosophers anywhere in contemporary philosophy. This is a great book for anyone interested in philosophy, whether continental or analytic. As far as the service, I could not be happier. The book arrived on time and in a very secure package.

I can't believe I'm writing the first review for a book that is so important to the field of sexuality and queer theory. Ed Cohen has created one of the most comprehensive discussions that focuses on the origins of sexuality in Victorian England. By focusing on the development of masculinity and manliness in Victorian England as predicated by Victorian terms, Cohen developes an acute sense of what it meant to be a "man" in England during the late 19th century. Later in the book he developes, in the Foucaultnian tradition, the response by the judicial system, the press, and society to "unmanliness". The Wilde trials become the focus for his discussion on the dissemination of discursive language from literature and the media. If there is anything to obtain from this review it is that you cannot possibly understand Victorian sexuality without purchasing this book. It is worth so much more than it costs.

very impressed; interesting,fresh,fun book. Has enough stats for stat freaks. I liked the criteria; Coach Cohen has balanced the numbers, era, reps, insight into ballparks & opinions of the players in an interesting way without getting bogged down or boring. Learned more about the Negro leagues than I ever knew.
Illustrations are excellent as well. The kind of book you can go back to repeatedly & enjoy.

Recap: A must read for baseball fans of all ages.

This is a compilation of art work done in therapy by patients with Multiple personality/ disassociation identity disorder. The contents may be sometimes beautiful, sometimes revealing and sometimes shocking. Here you learn how to detect Disassociation identity disoder in people through paintings and drawings that reveal the systems of their alters, memories of the abuse, their sense of shatterd self images etc through what is called systems pictures, abreactional pictures, Chaos pictures, threat, induction, trance and switching pictures. Some of the pictures in this book are quite shocking and disturbing( meaning the ones that tell of the abuse that lead to this condition) but learning how to diagnose this disorder through the art work of people is fascinating . The book was written and compiled by a couple of art therapist who encountered several cases of MPD/DID in their work and developed a system through art to detect DID. I highly reccomend this book for anyone who cares to understand the world of people with MPD.DID further. You learn so much through these pictures.
