I bought this book for a class. I assumed it would be another "sterile" textbook. I have been really nicely surprised. The book is easily read and is full of applicable material to anyone in business. I highly recommend this book. But I won't be selling mine at the end of the semester.

This is a wonderful tape. I say the rosary everyday, often by myself, so it is nice to have a tape to follow and I feel I am saying it with someone. Well done, easy to listen to. I now can say it while I walk!

This is one of the best audio Rosary CD's I have heard. It has all 4 of the Mysteries, including the new Luminous Mysteries. There is beautiful Catholic music playing in the background, as you are saying this rosary. The narrator says the first part, then you finish the end of the prayer. It is a wonderful way to get prayer time in, as you go about your busy day...whether working in the house, riding in the car, etc. The wonderful speaking voices and music keep you focused on your prayers. I would highly recommend it to anyone, who enjoys reciting the Holy Rosary.

A BOOK OF MANY STORIES WRAPPED INTO ONE

The author really captures the imagination at every turn. I love that you can pick up the book and start at any point, each chapter is a story within itself and quite different from anything that I have read in a long time. The book has a
'Men In Black' 'Star Wars' 'Animal Farm' flavor with a twist.

From start to end, I was unable to put this book down.
The first chapter is definately a "hooker", meaning, you get hooked & wants to know what happens next.
If you're into Science Fiction, then, you're definately going to enjoy this wonderful book.
Also, lots of suggestions for natural 21st century healing remedies.
This book will make a great movie someday,(like a Star Wars movie) & when it does, I'll for sure go see.
Bottomline, this book is exciting, adventurous, thrilling, scary and everything that goes with a Sci-Fi flick.
Enjoy..

An Inspirational Wonderful Read

Rat Race Blues is a real find. This account of the life of Gigi Gryce was an inspiration to me. We read it in our library book club for January 2003, where it was a great hit with all our members.
I would recommend it to anyone who is curious about life and/ or music and particularly to young people, struggling against the odds of poverty and racism.

The book rediscovers Gigi Gryce, a name that appears on the records of numerous famous Jazz musicians,Cifford Brown, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Max Roach, Thelonius Monk, Donald Byrd, Art Farmer.... to name only a few.
The research done by Noal Cohen and Michael Fitzgerald is meticulous and sensitive. They manage to give us an insiders view of the Jazz scene in the 50's and early 60's, depicting Gigi's whole life from a strict and loving upbringing in Pensecola, Florida to his education at the Boston Conservatory; heady days in New York playing with all the greats and starting a family; his attempts to help musicians protect their publishing rights and finally his reinvention of himself as a teacher in the Bronx.
For the most part, the authors are in the background, letting the musicians, family and friends speak for themselves about their memories of Gryce. Some of the anecdotes are hilarious. There are also great photos, including one of a young Quincy Jones and Clifford Brown who worked with Gigi in the Lionel Hampton band.
Finding Gigi Gryce is akin to finding Zora Neal Hurston or more recently Henry Grimes.
Congratulations to the authors for a book that sets a high standard for biographies of musicians.

This book is the most complete discography you will ever find about the jazz great, GiGi Gryce. It is well-written and a very fascinating history of jazz, itself, revealing many "insider" type anecdotes about the old days in jazz history. There are many interviews with famous jazz greats but best of all, the story of a very talented and enigmatic gentleman, Mr. GiGi Gryce
Kudos to to Cohen and Fitzgerald for a Class A book destined to become a textbook reference on this period in jazz history.

This is a colorfully written collection of "snippets" about growing up, and observations about life in general. I took my time reading it...not doing so would be like trying to eat a lot of desserts in one sitting. One of my favorites was "Shoe Power", a very funny comment on airport security.

this book is an excellent collection of short stories, perfect for picking up anytime. the author grew up in philadelphia in the 1940's, and was in the army in the 1950's and tells 2-3 page short stories involving different colorful characters from his time in the army and also growing up as a boy in philadelphia and many other scenarios also. from "modoko gives a poker lesson" to "minnie's mantel memorial" this selection of tales depicts a slice of life with texture and detail that is uncommonly good.

After 55 years of intense and rabid anti-communism, most people can be excused for accepting the old cliches about American Communists: dour, unfeeling and fanatical in their devotion to Moscow's orders. This joint autobiography of Agnes (Sis) Cunningham and Gordon Frieson shows us that, instead, Communists tended to be pretty much like all of us. Driven by a desire to create a better America and repelled by the "everything's for sale" attitude of the two main political parties, they labored through poverty, blacklisting, lynch mobs and government sabotage towards that better America. And they did it all with a song on their lips and in their hearts. An excellent book for those who want to know more about a period when only the very brave questioned the government and the system we live under.

OKAY, I GAVE THIS BOOK 5 STARS, NOT BECAUSE IT WAS A GOOD BOOK, IT WAS NOT, BUT BECAUSE I REALLY WANT PEOPLE TO READ IT. I GREW UP WITH PEOPLE LIKE "SIS" CUNNINGHAM AND GORDON FRIESEN AND WAS MYSELF ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN MANY OF THE SAME MOVEMENTS DISCUSSED. I AM AN OLD MAN AND CAN LOOK BACK WITH SOME AMOUNT OF OBJECTIVITY. YES, WE HIT UPON CAUSES THAT WERE JUST AND MADE COMPLETE SENSE. WHO WOULDN'T TRY TO STOP LYNCHINGS, RACISM, CORRUPTION IN POLITICS AND CORRUPTION IN BIG BUSINESS AND THE OPPRESSION OF THE POOR, ESPECIALLY IN RURAL AREAS. AT THE SAME TIME THESE PEOPLE WERE IN EFFECT ORGANIZERS FOR THE COMMUNIST PARTY AND THEIR AVOWED PURPOSE, WHICH IS HISTORICAL FACT, WAS THE OVERTHROW OF THE CAPITALIST SYSTEM AND IN EFFECT THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. THEY WERE PROFESSIONAL TROUBLEMAKERS, NOT PARTICULARLY INTELLIGENT,OR HISTORICALLY CENTERED, WHO REALLY CARED MORE ABOUT THE "MOVEMENT" OR "REVOLUTION" THAN THE PEOPLE THEY PURPORTED TO BE HELPING. THEIR ETHICS WERE AT BEST AMORAL AND LYING OR CRIMINAL ACTS TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR ENDS WERE TOTALLY JUSTIFIED. I WAS THERE, I KNOW. IT IS A DREARY, BORING, DEPRESSING ACCOUNT OF SOCIAL MALCONTENTS AND MISFITS WHO PROJECTED THEIR OWN MISERY ON THE ENTIRE AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE. IMAGINE THESE PEOPLE BEING IN CONTROL AND IMAGINE HOW MUCH FUN IT WOULD BE TO LIVE IN A SOVIET STYLE STATE. READ THE BOOK, IT WILL SCARE YOU, OR AT LEAST IT SHOULD.

If you're looking for a good, cheap book on Marsh, this is the book for you. Reginald Marsh was a social-realist artist in New York during the 1930s. While at first glance, Marsh seems to work in the style of Daumier, as this book shows he also was influenced by the more traditional old masters, particularly Rubens.

This book is not your usual cheap Dover edition. The paper used is quality glossy, the images are sharply reproduced with very good value definition. The 44 page introduction by Marilyn Cohen is very well-wriiten, informative, and relates to the plates that follow. Cohen obviously knows a lot about Marsh and the times and people he lived in. She carefully explains the milieu and influences in which Marsh's paintings were developed. The care in which she presents her subject is evident in the footnotes to her introduction.

This book will be of special interest to the artist who is interested in how other artists get from idea to final painting. There are many preliminary sketches presented along with photos that Marsh took and subsequently developed into paintings. My only complaint is that there are only 4 color illustrations (and 2 of them are on the inside jacket covers and not very clear). But that's probably what keeps the cost down. All in all, an interesting book at a low, low price.

Honors the dead

This 119-page book honors the memory of 149 men and women and 19 children murdered in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995 when the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building was attacked.

Since the book's July 1995 publication, questions have been raised as to possible connections between this devastating 1995 attack and the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Concerning those, one can consult The Final Report on the Bombing of The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building April 19, 1995--conducted by the private Oklahoma Bombing Investigation Committee organized by Oklahoma State Representative Charles Key and Jayna Davis' more recent book, The Third Terrorist.

The Grand Jury which indicted Timothy McVeigh, along with "others unknown," including at least one subpoenaed Jordanian suspect, who had fled. The "others" were never found.

This book is a fine memorial for the victims, and its proceeds from its sale were donated to the family of victims.

I truly love the book and the author for her honesty in telling her story. It took a lot of courage to tell these private things about herself. She was down to earth in her details of what happened and that made it much easier to relate to her experience. Thank you for sharing Sylvia! I am sure your book will open the doors for many others to be honest about what happened to them in their lives when they were young adults. Doing this will help take you to the next level of maturity sooner.
