As an aspiring teacher, I wanted many questions answered about the Atlantic Slave Trade. I wanted to know why, how, and 'how come' this happened. Dr. Clarke lays out the foundations and reasoing behind the whole thing. The text was easy to read and it kept me wanting more with each turn of the page. In the future I will require my students to read this book. It is informative and straightforward. A must read for EVERYone... of any ethnic background!

Cinderella Meets the Caveman by Dr. David E. Clarke is a scary Christian marriage guide. Scary because I swear the Clarke had video cameras in my house, and I really wish he hadn't shared my personal information with the world! :) The good doctor nails the communication problems in marriage square on the head. Most women fall into the Cinderella trap: we want our husbands to instinctively understand what we want and need without telling them. And men (at least mine) are Cavemen: as long as they have clothing, food, and sex they are happy. It seems simplistic, but it really is just that easy. I loved reading this book. I found myself laughing out loud so hard at some parts that Jesse insisted that I read them to him as well. We took turns blushing as Clarke nailed us to the wall with our flaws. The tone is humorous and he definitely gives it to each mate about how they fail at communicating with the other. I had never thought of communication as a problem in my marriage until I read this book. Once I started spotting mistakes I was making (that ended up escalating), I was able to use Clarke's suggestions to let Jesse know how I was feeling or what I needed. It was amazing to see the results work so quickly and so well. Jesse's currently reading the book now, and I'm passing it on to my newlywed best friend next. It's the rare Christian self-help book that gives such sound advice with so many belly laughs.

An invaluable guide to the world of wine

Mystified by Morgon ? Not sure whether you should keep that bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape or quaff it now ? Clarke and Spurrier have the answers in this easy to follow guide which covers the main wine producing countries. Its certainly a must if you're a channel hopping wine shopper. Wines are carefully described and each entry includes a list of the best years, the best producers and when the wine is ready to drink. Best of all, here's a book that's free of the old tea chests and tcp school of wine tasting, preferring instead to use straightforward, easy to understand descriptions of taste and colour. Taking it with us to France recently led to the discovery of several wines we hadn't tried before because we weren't sure what they were. Highly recommended.

Absolutely marvelous artwork. This is a facsimile reprint of the 1922 George G. Harrap original with 40 b&w and 12 full page colour plates by the inimicable Harry Clarke, macabre illustrator of Poe and Faust. It lends quite a twist to the old tales.

An addicting series - you can't stop after just one

Sixteen-year-old Argentine beauty, Alexa Veron, has been a practical joker for as long as she can remember. Which is the precise reason why her high school principal - along with her parents - recommend that she apply for an internship at the illustrious FLIRT Magazine in New York City - to prove that she is serious, determined, and ready to grow up, at least a little. So, when she informs her parents that spending the summer in New York City - practically alone - will make her feel more responsible, and give her a chance to buckle down and be serious, they can't refuse. Soon, Alexa is on American soil, traipsing around the Big Apple with a group of fashion forward girls - all FLIRT interns - as they work for Josephine Bishop - the epitome of fashion - and try to navigate their way through the big city, complete with cute guys, gorgeous clothes, and some not-so-truthful friends. However, Alexa is quickly realizing that just because she's escaped the piazzas of Argentina, and embraced the skylines of Manhattan, doesn't mean that her antics have been tamed - quite the opposite, in fact. Now, without parental supervision, Alexa has become wilder than ever, and, as she's armed with her trusty camera, she's doing the unthinkable - taking pictures of people and holding them for blackmail, as well as placing them on her new Blog. Alexa now has to prove that her immature side has been curbed - at least to a certain extent - and that she is truly interested in completing her FLIRT project; otherwise she'll be on a flight back to Argentina in a flash.
The first FLIRT novel, WRITE HERE, RIGHT NOW opened the door for the FLIRT interns, and gave readers a chance to get a feel for each of the characters living in the FLIRT loft. However, with CLOSE UP AND PERSONAL, introductions have been made, and the fun is just beginning. Alexa is an exciting character, whose often immature antics are hilarious nonetheless, and keep readers on their toes. While her interactions with the other FLIRT girls, as well as a cute coffee barista are true-to-life, and extremely identifiable - especially for those who have ever experienced a die-hard crush. Bringing the internship world to life, Nicole Clarke has proven that working at a magazine is not as easy as testing new beauty products, and wearing great clothes; but an all-around exciting experience that any girl would be lucky to have. An addicting series - you can't stop after just one.

The single best collection of SF short stories in existence

These are stories by Arthur C. Clarke mainly written during the "Golden Age of SF" during the 1940s through 1960s era. There are many in here which are simply classics, to which the discerning reader will return many times. Most of these stories are friends of my youth, and I spent many hours entertaining myself reading these stories, in a time when there were no computers, internet, and only three television channels (and only one TV in the house!)
The list of five-star classics in this rather large piece is too long to list here in its entirety. To name just a few, "Superiority," "Rescue Party," "The Parasite," The Songs of Distant Earth" (later made into a fine novel), "Dog Star" (have some tissue handy for this one!), and many others.
Clarke at his best probably mastered the short-story format better than most, or perhaps any, of the other giants of SF's Golden Age. The best of these stories have a wistful, poetic thread about them, coupled with Clarke's unbounding imagination and often startling speculations about technology and Mankind's future.
You don't want to miss this one. It belongs in every SF aficionado's library.

Clarke and Toogood's, 'The Complete Book of Plant Propagation is one among many in this field. Plant propagation is perhaps the most relevant issue for gardening/horticulture aficionados. The information is clear, with relevant illustrations, without embellishments of any kind. Is the most informative book on this subject I have seen anywhere. If you need a book covering all the aspects of plant propagation with a reasonable price, get it. If will provide years of pleasure.
