This is the first issue of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, which has been popular enough to continue even today, years after Asimov's demise. To start off with a bang, this first edition included works by some of the sci-fi fields best authors of the 20th century, including Arthur C. Clarke, Gordon R. Dickson, George O. Smith, John Varley, and Asimov himself. I recall buying this around the time Star Wars came out; I was already a sci-fi buff, and that was a great time for it!

As long as you don't get sucked into believing the hype that this is the only navigation/weather resource you will need, this book is an excellent buy. You definitely need a Pilot Chart and this is not the only one available, but you can't go wrong with it.

I bought this book for my 2 and a half year old twins, and it's just great. I have had trouble finding books for them at this age because so many books are too simple, and others have too many words and don't hold their attention. This book has adorable illustrations, and my girls love the flaps. There is a lot of information on each animal, but it is written in an interesting and fun way, not over their heads. They will be able to read it for a long time as they understand more of the text. I would highly recommend this book.

Dharmic Masterpiece

This book is a dharmic masterpiece and a brilliant exposition of the universal truths expounded since time immemorial. The sagacious and infinitely precious words of the eternal spiritual star, Gautama Buddha, are delicately and poignantly brought home again as it crosses through the illusory barriers of time and space through the pen of the Venerable Rahula Basnagoda. The relevance of this work to our contemporary world is the gift supreme that Sage Basnagoda is gifting to the world at large. For anyone interested in deepening the quest for inner peace and awakening, this book is a must. I consider it a treasure beyond measure.

A Culture of Gratitude
This poetic history of the Coast Salish peoples adds great understanding of the depth and resilience of the coastal tribal culture.
It is a beautifully bound, small book with heart-touching photos of Indian speakers and elders.
It is highly acclaimed by academic experts and by tribal leaders and elders.
The book is used in college and high school classes as a text reference in cultural history, but its main audience is with tribal and non-tribal people looking for the inspiration of the wisdom of the Pacific Northwest earliest people. People from countries all over the world have this book, and it has been used as a book reference in conferences with world leaders, such as,Nelson Mandela.
I recommend it as a beautiful gift book, and one that would be of interest to readers of books, such as, Radical Hope.

As my title would suggest, I normally read futuristic romances. I'm more than happy to venture into the current day with books written by this author.
J. A. Clarke's newest romance has an alpha male who will knock your socks off. Jackson Roarke is everything you could hope for in a hero. Tall, dark and handsome, he is a rugged, totally irresistible man who had me wishing he'd show up on my doorstep, let alone show me the wilds of Africa. The trip is outstanding because the author grew up in Africa and every detail in the book, from the marauding monkeys, to the hippo next door, make you feel you are there.
Kat Feldman, the feisty heroine, is totally out of her comfort zone, away from her big city life, but she falls in love with the exotic wilderness and the man. How in the world can these two very different people build a life together, when they return to their normal lives? J.A. Clarke keeps the tension up as her characters explore the thought of a future together. Humor and erotic situations spice up the story.
I highly recommend Beneath a Blazing Sun. Whenever I'm in the mood for a great romance with an exotic locale, I'll pull it off my keeper shelf and take a trip.

I just got the "hot off the presses" (so to speak) version of this annual; as always, it's an eclectic bag of tricks. I'm sorry, I just can't review without making BAD puns.
I particularly liked Carol Rosenfeld's "Art History 101" set (mostly) in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, with deeper levels about the roles people play to get other people to like them.
Other topics covered are grrls who pack and pass (as boys), one transgender story, a historical erotic tale (with Queen Elizabeth I no less!) and a couple of hot sci-fi reads.
This year's guest editor is Cheryl Clarke, and she does a great intro, along with series editor Tristan Taormino, who has discovered some hidden treasures that will wear well.
