This book is very funny and a little bit romantic. Its about this girl named Tabitha Walsnott who is a major dob artist. She often tells her father, the school principal, what the bad things her school friends did and gets them punished. There was this boy in her class named Enrico Boldani (Boldy) whom she thought flattened her father's car tyre so she told the principal and got him in trouble. Boldy hated her eversince. Tabitha thought he was her worst enemy but he actually had secret feelings for her. The way he expressed them to her was really funny. You should read this book. The characters inside it will make you laugh your head off!

Clark Coolidge's writing is some of the most thoroughly modern I've ever known. With subjects ranging from plasticine to a bolas, & with another interesting collage thing (visual art, not the poetry, though the poetry is kind of like that too...), this is a great book to have.

I was suspect of a rating of condition as "very good" and yet the price was .72. I decided I could gamble on 72 cents plus shipping. I was pleasantly surprised when the book arrived in four days and the book is, indeed, in very good condition. I am enjoying learning Spanish with my tutor and using this as my text.

I first read this book in 1997 when I was making a report for school on the fall of Yugoslavia. At the time, there wasn't a lot of info about the subject - except that mass graves of murdered Muslims were being discovered. I ordered 2 copies of this book as it was the best book I read that accurately describes the history leading up to and the effects of the Serbian led genocide of thousands of Muslim men and rape of countless women. After WWII, I think the world felt that genecide could never happen again - how wrong we were. I am afraid that the massacre that occured in Bosnia is happening again in Darfur. I have donated the books on Bosnia to a school library in hopes that future generations will remember and maybe this time the past will not repeat itself.

Boston Bruins: Celebrating 75 Years is an incredible collection of photographs, anecdotes, history of the players and the arenas they played in, the Stanley Cup wins, and the hockey greats that have worn the spoked B. Any Bruins fan that has followed the team for years, or a new fan wanting to know the team's illustrious history should read this book. Divided into several chapters, each detailing different aspects of the organization, it is a very engrossing read, filled with tons of information for fans, young or old.

Maybe Lansdale's Best Book
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-28
I've read all of Joe Lansdale's novels, and a significant percentage of his short stories. I believe that "The Bottoms" may be his best book yet. This novel finds Lansdale exploring new narritive and stylistic territory while staying within many of his traditional themes. This may also be his most accesible book to date, and should gain him some new readers whose sensibilities might be too fragile for some of Joe's earlier horror novels.

"The Bottoms" is indeed a horror novel, a genre that Lansdale has not explored for a number of years. Really though, it might be more proper to call this a hybrid of the crime/detective, horror, and traditional literary forms. There are elements of all of these, but no single aspect is overemphasized.

The story is set in 1930's East Texas and centers around a family living in a small town called Marvel Creek. The narration is from the point of view of an old man, near death, telling the story from the point of view of himself as a teenager. The author's narrative execution is truly masterful. Lansdale manages to capture both the point of view of the teenage boy and the elderly man, so that we see everything through both aspects of the same person.

The story itself is also constructed with a master's touch. This is a longish novel (more than 400 pages), and the gradual buildup, climax, and denouement are perfectly paced and executed. Many people are primarily familiar with Lansdale through his Hap and Leonard books, but "The Bottoms" is a much different animal. The pacing is much slower, and there is an innocence and wonder that pervades the whole book. As always, though, the best thing about a Joe Lansdale novel is the characters. I feel like I know these characters. It's the characters that will grab you and keep you there for the whole book.

Lansdale never disappoints. It's amazing to me the variety that I always find in his novels. In recent months, I have read "Freezer Burn", "Waltz of Shadows", "Blood Dance", and "The Bottoms". Each of these books is totally different from the others, yet they all have that Lansdale quality. "The Bottoms" is some of Lansdale's best writing to date. Don't hesitate.

Fine economy of language, an ample dose of clever, yet more than that, these poems offer the reader a distinctive vision of both the everyday and the extraordinary. Some laughter and some insights in the same volume.

Book was exactly as described (former library edition with minor writing inside), it was in very good condition, and arrived very quickly. I would definitely recomend both this book (for anyone who is interested in the origins of brainstorming as used in American business), and I highly recomend this vendor for out of print books.
