The Cottonwoods of Titus Smithing is a book you will want to read as you follow the adventure of a retired Doctor who actually goes out in search of a very different and refreshing adventure. He wants to do something good for a deserving person. The adventure is full of humor, human stories mixed in with a bit of sad thrown in. There are several little surprises that will catch the reader a bit--a very refreshing read!

Are you ready for a new kind of hero? Would you like to have faith in the human soul again? Then you need to read "The Cottonwoods of Titus Smithing." The author presents to the reader an opportunity to connect with the salt of the earth - the hard workers of America. Through the use of vivid imagery and decriptive wording - you can visualize the "adventure" of Henry. The sentence structure is unique, but truly fits the characters he is protraying. There are moments when you'll laugh out loud, and others when you'll snicker to yourself. You find that you're crossing your fingers that everything will work out okay. I highly recommend you give this book a reading!

A great read for every person.

I purchased this book for my children for Christmas this year. We have had so much fun with it! The projects are perfect(I know by experience) for birthday parties or any time you have a house full of children! The projects are fun, easy, and best of all, inexpensive to do. My 8 year old son had no problem reading through the instructions making 'surprises' for our family members. He loved it most of all because he could pick out a project and 90% of the time we had everything needed to complete the project already on hand(everyday household items). This book is a must have for anyone with restless children!

This is hands down a brilliant commentary. I must begin by saying that I disagree with Marshall's rejection of Paul's authorship of the Pastorals. Despite that, he does an absolutely tremendous job and goes to a level of depth that is riveting, not boring. His treatment of the tough "women" passages in 1 Timothy 2 is brilliant. Those on all sides of that issue will have something to cheer about yet something to scratch their heads about and feel the need to rethink their positions. His exegesis gives such a fresh back-to-the-original-setting approach that our later encrusted, culturally-based views on such passages seem rather simplistic by comparison.

The number of in-depth, serious scholarly treatments of the Pastorals is dizzying: Towner's NIC, Johnson's new AB, Quinn & Wacker's ECC, Mounce's WBC, Collin's NTC, Knight's NIGTC and Marshall's ICC (not to mention the forthcoming Pillar and Baker Exegetical volumes). Few NT books can boast such a line-up of high quality commentaries. Marshall's ICC certainly holds it's own in this group, and may well be the best. I've used all of these but Knight and Towner. By the way, Towner was virtually Marshall's co-author on this ICC despite their differing opinions on authorship. I highly recommend this book.

The pastorals have been often overlooked. Finally a superb technical commentary from an evangelical. Some will quibble with major and minor points (though clearly evangelical, he denies Pauline authorship for starters), there is so much that is illuminating in these pages. A real window into early christianity!

A worthy commentary

I. Howard Marshall has labored to produce a wonderful commentary worthy of inclusion in any pastor and theologian's library. Following suit with the other members of the ICC family, Marshall goes about his exegetical task of taking the Greek and bringing forth meaning in a practical and academic manner. The healthy bibliography allows the student, pastor, and theologian equal access to the mountain of works applicable to a particular passage.

Though Marshall denies Pauline authorship, his arguments, as aforementioned by a fellow reviewer, are not convincing (though exhaustive of the issues confronting authorship.) A rather remarkable approach, Marshall places Titus at the front of the commentary in a bold step to bring to the face a usually neglected book. The commentary is better for this practice.

Having used Knight, Mounce, Quinn and Wacker, Debellious and Counzelmann, and several other competent commentaries in a exegesis course on the Pastoral Epistles, Marhsall's commentary was a steadfast primary resource in my studies. Though the pastor not educated in languages will not be able to follow this commentary easily, the educated clergy will find it invaluable in their pursuits of exegesis and exposition from the PE. Marshall has given us a staple for NT scholarship.

I don't usually like horror books, but I found this to be pretty unique; I thought the main character was one dimensional and unrealistic, but as you get deeper into the book there's just plain good story telling going on. The plot draws you in, as it continues to twist and turn on itself. I was also intrigued by the portrayal of the werewolves; definitely different from the traditional giant wolf figures, and eerily convincing. All in all, a good, quick, recreational read that's hard to put down.

I took a beginners' sewing class that taught me the basics of sewing, and as my first solo project, I decided to make curtains for my living room and kitchen. I got practically every book that the library had on the topic of curtain-making, and I can tell you that this was the best one for an extreme novice.

The authors make very few assumptions about the reader's sewing ability. They expect that you know how to operate a sewing machine, that you know what a seam is, and that's just about it. Everything else is explained in easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions. And, they cover a variety of different treatments, which is nice if you want to do something simple that doesn't just involve flat sheets of fabric hanging from your curtain rod.

I decided finally to buy this one, because I wound up checking it out from the library so often. Definitely worthwhile for any beginner sewer who wants to make curtains.

Beginners should be VERY encouraged after purchasing this book. The directions are written in plain english and the photographs are terrific step-by-step guides. Every project was presented in an easy-to-learn fashion, and they tell you exactly what you'll learn and what you'll need. A must for anyone who wants to learn and is frustrated by the lack of true beginner sewing books.

Enjoy.

Ian Kinncaid is working undercover. When he is hired to kill Elianya, an evil woman who thrives on destroying others, he discovers her sickening new business venture. Meanwhile, Rori, also known as the assassin The Raven, is contacted by Elianya to kill Ian. Rori decides that Ian doesn't seem like the usual mark and switches sides. As Ian And Rori save Elianya's young victim, another hit is put out on Ian. They have to flee to save their lives. Ian returns to his family in hopes that by hiding under his unknown true identity, they will be safe. But what Elianya's wants, Elianya gets, and she wants Ian to pay.

In Deadly Games we finally get to meet the mysterious Ian Kinncaid. Ian plays a small, yet crucial part, in the previous Kinncaid Brothers' books. Ian's story is well worth the wait. This suspenseful, action-packed, and thrilling story kept me on the edge of my seat. Rori is truly the only woman for Ian. Their similar backgrounds allow them to trust and
understand each other. Ian is a strong, hard man on the outside, and compassionate and loving on the inside. He is charming, sexy, and noble. The epitome of a knight in shining armor. Deadly Games is another excellent romantic suspense from Jaycee Clark.

This was the first book I read in the series. It hit every emotion, the characters personalities were consistent throughout and it was very easy to like the two characters and want to see them together.
The pace was fast and I liked the fact that the author let the physical tension build instead of them "getting together" immediately in the book.
I have already placed an order for the rest of the books (I had to go directly to the publisher website since for some reason Amazon isn't still selling them all).

A frank account of life in the fast lane.

Alan Clark was only a moderately successful politician, but he ranks with Harold Nicolson as one of the best British political diarists this century. Clark was a wealthy (but not aristocratic) Tory MP under Margaret Thatcher (whose ankles he praises) rising to Minsister of State for Defence Procurement frustatingly short of the Cabinet. His diaries record his hopes, fears, lusts, successes and failures (including memorably the occasion when he addressed Parliament when drunk). His account of Thatcher's fall is gripping. You need a good grasp of British politics in the 80's to understand all the nuances, but anyone can enjoy this candid record. Sadly his recent death may deprive us of volume 2.

Biting and hilarious

Alan Clark comes across as a bastard, but a stylish one at that. There is none of the self-serving drivel that even the best autobiographies normally serve up. Instead, you get raw, mostly unedited thoughts straight from the mind of the author. Of course only an English aristocrat would have the nerve to have diaries of such a nature published and not give a damn about what others think. Therein lies the charm of this enormously entertaining book.

Vivid, funny and disturbing stories of politics in the UK

This is funnier than "Yes Minister" and is a memoir of a real minister. Very incisive comments by Clark, critical of many, praising others. Makes a cabinet minister of pedigree and lineage look like a real person, showing the great difficulty of an elected official in changing the course of the "ship of state". It really appears that this is a private memoir now made public - seems totally fresh and honest. A very good read.

I found this book charming from the moment I picked it up. First off, the illustrations by Val Lawton are simple and light, just the sort of dreamy tone you want to set as you tuck your little one in to sleep with a tooth under their pillow. Coramarie Clark's story is also just right, perfect for children at an age when the pearly whites start to drop out. Of course, you'd want to get this book long before that, since the helpful chart in the back lets you plot the course of your child's teeth as they appear and finally depart. And it helps you answer the question almost every child has ever asked upon losing a tooth - what happens with it after the Tooth Fairy gathers it during the night?

This book is delightfully written and illustrated. Answers a basic question every child wants to know - What happens to my tooth after the toothfairy takes it? Love the tooth chart in the back that tells when children on average lose and get new teeth, with space to put the dates for your child. Great gift! The minute you see the cover, you know that you are in for the special treat with your child or grandchild. A keepsake to keep along with your child's baby book.

This review refers to the Unabridged Audio Cassette edtion of "The Essential Lewis and Clark" Landon Y. Jones, editor

These selections from the journals of Captains Lewis and Clark during their explorations in the early 1800's is not the complete text of their writings, but after 6 hours of listening you will come away with more then 'essential ' knowledge of what took place. The selections will take you the entire distance of this important and historical journey, and you will feel like you are part of it. Read by two great voices, Peter Friedman ("Brooklyn Bridge"), and Tom Wopat ("The Dukes of Hazzard"), each giving the Captains very individual and wonderful voices, and making it easy to know who's journals you are listening to.

Through the rivers and mountains, the Great Plains, you are there with them. It's not only an important piece of American History, but great adventures to get caught up in every step of the way, as they navigate unknown and untried routes, meet with native Americans, friendly and unfriendly, fight the elements, wild animals and mosquitoes that nearly ate them alive. So many adventurous episodes to savor in their words. They named the rivers, carved routes for the future, at times facing danger and hunger. I especially enjoyed hearing of their meetings and relations with the various tribes of Indians.

The selections read are unabridged and their every thought captured for us to savor. I found Lewis's writings to be very animated and lengthy detailed accounts of the journey. Clark's seemed more abbreviated, but, to the point. Both put you right there with them and are eloquently written. Exciting and adventurous as they are an important and treasured part of American History. There is also a narrator to set the scenes and follow the path.

Highly recommended not only for history buffs, but for those studying this part of American History in school. If I had had this audio edition 40 years ago in History class, I certainly would have paid more attention! The journals can't help but spark your interest. It is great for adventure story lovers.

There are 4 two sided cassettes with excellent sound quality.

Enjoy the read... I did...Laurie

... but the events described in the journals actually happened, and they are fascinating! Their means of travel, of survival, of communicating with the Indians, of hunting game and chasing and being chased by bears -- all described in such detail that you can easily picture it. In addition to being adventurers, these men were romantics and intellectuals. It is no wonder that once their journals reached the east, people started coming west in droves to see the beautiful lands and abundant game they described. The CDs are great for a long drive or the daily commute.

Are you a Lewis and Clark buff, just starting out? You've read "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen Ambrose, and perhaps a couple other Lewis and Clark books. It's time to read the journals, but you are daunted by the thought of all that early 19th century wordiness, spelling and such?

Me too.

This book is great. It's just what it says it is. All the good stuff from Lewis and Clark's copious journals, all the highlights, well edited. The value of this book is as a starting place, perhaps. It's short enought to be read easily over a few days. Like all good introductions, then, if you want more you know where to look, and you'll now know what to expect. Landon Jones provides all the accessibility; Lewis and Clark still provide the wonder.
