...not to mention pathologists might like it too. Each chapter is essentially as definitive as pathology texts dedicated to and serve as the definitive source on individual organs. High quality paper, clear and clinically relevant photos, and expertly written text. The passages are not so concise that you feel you are missing out on some trival, but possibly interesting information, yet they are not too lengthy either. The only thing I wish I could change would be color photos, but that would make this already extraordinarily expensive text beyond-comprehension-costly.

A multi-author book edited by two excellent clinicians (Emmet Keeffe, Stanford and Lawrence Friedman, Harvard), this is an excellent read for anyone involved in taking care of patients with liver diseases. It contains information in a succinct, often bulleted form that makes it easy to quickly go through a particular topic. The only thing lacking at this time is new and updated information, especially the management aspect. Overall, however, it is a great source to have. Kudos to the editors for this great handbook!

An essential book for all medical physicians, pharmacists, naturopaths and herbalists. It has comprehensive information about 100 of the most popular herbal and nutritional supplements and provides the latest evidence in a balanced way and a readable format. The ready reference drug-interaction section is the most extensive around and also has beneficial interactions in it. A real winner !!

This is a great collection of segments from Churchill's "History of the English Speaking People", read in a masterful manner by David Case. Case is particularly good at reading Churchill's most stirring speeches. This book chronicles both English and American heroes, including Washington and Lincoln. It is an amazing set of characters from an amazing man, Sir Winston Churchill.

If you were short changed on your history education, like most of us, this is a must read. This is the kind of reading the can make the casual reader, an avid reader of histories. Most people don't know that Churchill had to write to earn a living. Along with his works on the Duke of Marlborough, The World Crisis (WWI) and his 6 volume work on WWII, this series stands out. I covers a lot of ground and leaves you wanting to read more.

Read something BY Churchill instead of just ABOUT him

I sought out to find this set of books after reading several books about Winston Churchill. I was tremendously impressed by the man; his many experiences, hobbies, character and leadership. That he was a prize winning author intrigued me greatly. Surely he had something worthwhile to say in his books.

After five years and several readings, I believe that this is indeed true.

The underlying theme is the role of pivotal figures throughout history in a long and storied development of the government, legal system and character of the english speaking peoples. These systems and attitudes guide and impact our lives every day, yet do we understand where they came from?

I believe Churchill does a very credible job in throwing some light on the subject.

While absorbing the underlying story, I have met some fascinating historical characters in the context of their time. Most lives take but a chapter, but in this brief space of pages, their personalities shine forth. In volume 1 for example, you meet Alfred the Great, William the Conquerer, the sad figure of Henry VI, the brutal Richard III and a host of others. Powerful lives and people of action come to life on each page.

Another theme of book is that it is couched in action. Churchill was a man of action, and he portrays and judges his subject in terms of their actions. This makes the books quite readable and reinforces the 'story' aspect. Also, he reminds us to judge these people in the terms of their time. And I think this is much to his credit.

This is a set that is amenable to reading straight through or at random. Highly recommended. Thank you Sir Winston Churchill!

Any well-read Englishman will have devoured Winston Churchill's magnum when it was released shortly after WWII. Today it is considered somewhat dated, but as a period piece expressing the approach of cosmopolitan England of the middle part of the 20th century, it cannot be underestimated. Highly recommended not only for those interested in English history, but for those who enjoy history for its own sake.

This book explains everything pretty well. I don't know of any other manual except for online versions. It is good to have this right there with you when working on your bike.
