I had the honor of reading the original draft of this book and found it amazingly refreshing and highly entertaining. It is imgaginatively written, and entertains delightfully with every turn of the page. A rare jewel in a world of violence and copy cat productions, this is a truely unique and well thought out story that is sure to please all generations. The links to historical events, and the manner in which the author ties in details from Northwest lore keeps you turning the pages. A very satifying read that I would highly recommend that you read outloud to your children...

I agree with other reviews which claim that the book is well-written and informative. I used it as a reference for one of the chapters in my own book which is on the topic of SAP's Enterprise SOA.

If you are seeking guidance on the benefits for a process-centric corporation and what corporation need to do to become process centric, this is a good book on the topic. The book is well written, well organized, and the discussions reflect much wisdom.

An especially good section the writing on the proces-centric-versus the functional management style.

My only quible is that it is a bit expensive.

Very good entry to BPM

I've found the book very easy to go through. Comming from an IT backgroud, it does give you very good general background on BMP business past and current business trends.

The IT concepts described in the book are very well described for such a book.

References coverage in each chapter is the most valuable part. You can see easily the book is a result of several years of work.

Pistoulet, Villa della Luna & now Circle of Kindness are all sweet & tenderly written books that touch one's soul at a very deep level. Pistoulet is still my favorite. This series, much like life, is an endearing journey very artisticly painted by two extraordinarily gifted & creative authors.

This book is just as beautiful as Jana Koplen's other books. They make perfect gifts but I always buy one for myself too. It's just the thing to read when you're feeling a little down. "Pistoulet" was so wonderful, I ordered several of this one for Christmas. Everyone loved it and wanted to know if there were more in the series. You can even try the recipes if you have a little imagination and faith.

I now have two books by this author and highly recommend them. They are enchanting, they weave the story line around many 'extras' in the book, visually they are wondrous......... I throughly enjoyed this one - it was a pleasing read and also pleasing to the eye. A JOY!

This is a truly a delightful book. The story takes you on a journey that unfolds in a host of creative and clever ways for you to actually participate in the story. It's cards, and letters are tidbits of fun, while it's scrumptious recipes are little morsels of love. It is an inspirational story that lasts with you long after you read the last page.

In a sequel to The Secrets of Pistolet, Mademoiselle J leaves the French farmhouse of her friend, Nathalie, preparing to return home. Stopping by a tea shop to meet Nathalie before her departure, Mademoiselle J has her fortune told and receives a ticket (via Nathalie's generosity) to the Villa Della Luna, where "at every crossroads there will be a sign." The Villa is an unexpected delight, a place where Mademoiselle J is meant to "learn to dance with the moon" and discover her true self. Each experience at the Villa brings a lesson for the willing visitor, the elegant rooms, the wise people, the claming natural surroundings, all revealing the joy of personal growth and an awareness of one's perspective of the world at large.

Signora Graziella La Vecchia is the Villa's hostess; there is also a child, the lovely, if quiet Chiara. Each carries a message of timelessness and serenity, where beauty and elegance are part of every day, everyone and everything in harmony with nature. Even the food is meant to heal and inspire: "The Minestrone of Memories and Reflection", Pasta Vivante, "for those who are afraid of the passions of life", and "A Foccacia of Forgiveness and Release". Filled with page after page of beautiful photographs, charming illustrations, thoughtful recipes, gatefolds and secrets, this artful endeavor is the perfect gift for a special friend, an invitation "to dance with the moon." Eater's Digest: 400 Delectable Readings about Food and Drink, by Lorraine Bodger, is a fun and easy read for lovers of food trivia and history, but it is not for the expert. The passages are brief and filled with interesting information, but, as a foodie, I had already learned about half of the information included in this volume. For newcomers to the vast world of gastronomy it is of value, especially when shared with others.

I love this book. I say "love," in the present tense, because I've been sampling it every day, reading a few passages at a time to string out the enjoyment. While my husband is cooking, I read passages aloud to him so that we can enjoy it together. It's jam packed with fascinating information about every possible aspect food and eating: where marshmallows came from; which piece of silverware to use for the courses at a formal dinner; everything you wanted to know about Spam; the perils of marinating meat; what every pantry should stock on its shelves, etc., etc. Lorraine Bodger's voice is warm, funny and likable. Whether you're reading it aloud or to yourself, you have the sense that you're spending time with a very funny, very intelligent, and very talented friend. This is a gem.

CANINE LOVERS WILL GET MORE THAN A FEW CHUCKLES !

Dogs can do the craziest things at the most unsuspecting time. Others plan their day accordingly. I have an English Cocker Spaniel who all but leaps through the drive-through window of his favourite do-nut shop, and has been known to devour the bag with those little "bits" still inside! The staff all know him and he takes great delight in flaunting his fame, not to mention basking in all the attention he receives. A dog's life, as portrayed through this book, will bring a fair share of chuckles to your day. It's cute, amusing and sometimes just plain silly..but that's exactly what our little canine friends are, isn't it? Ahh, but to live a pampered dog's life!

This is a cute book with pictures of dogs doing funny things. Each page has a picture of a different dog. Perfect for a rainy day or if you don't feel like reading, just want to look at pictures. Could be used for many different things, even could be used to give you ideas for stories.

Too small, mistitled, but still a classic

This is another book review by Wolfie and Kansas, the boonie dogs from Toto, Guam. "Funny Dogs" may be the best photography book we have ever seen. The editor wisely used black-and-white pictures, for easier viewing by species that are somewhat color blind. The photographs themselves are uniformly outstanding. We have only two minor complaints about this book. First, the title is misleading. While many of the dogs who posed for this book display natural comedic ability, we found some of the pictures to be dignified rather than "funny". The pictures in this latter category would be "funny" only to some noncanine animals of primate derivation, not to a dog. Actually, we found that most of the humans pictured in this volume, including Red Skelton and Alfred Hitchcock, look just as funny as the dogs they are pictured with. Our other complaint is that this book is too small. Usually we prefer compact volumes that we dogs can easily carry in our mouths. However, the photos in this book are so wonderful that they should have been printed in a coffee table-sized edition. In conclusion, the humans at Amazon.com should choose this masterwork as a Book of the Day in either the Classic or Undiscovered category. Since they are only human, we are afraid they will probably name this a Wacky Book of the Day, but even that would bring this treasure to the attention of the wider audience it deserves.

I had picked this book up at a fundraiser for community gardens years ago and had forgotten about it--that is, until I finally got a spot in my local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) collective. I found my copy and was reminded as to just what a great guide to NYC Greenmarket produce this is. It's well-illustrated and has a guide to many of the items that you'll find, and how to use them.

You don't have to be a New Yorker to appreciate this book!

As someone who practically lives in the Union Square greenmarket, I greatly appreciate this very useful book. Perfect for both novice and gourmet chief alike (who frequently shop it the greenmarkets), it has excellent information about the selection, storing and preparation of the cornucopia of fruits and vegetables available in the greenmarkets. There are other useful sections about baked goods, cheese, flowers & houseplants, fish & seafood, honey & other bee products, milk & other dairy products, as well as poultry, meat & game. What I found very useful was the harvest calendar, located in the front of the book. Thanks to this book, I was able to prepare vegetables that I had never used before. The recipes are quite good too. This is a book that I often use, and it is one that should find a home on every kitchen shelf.

A wonderful handbook to selecting, cooking vegetables, etc.

Even if you don't live in New York, where Greenmarkets are THE place to buy the freshest and most delicious produce, you will use this book often. I frequently look up how to store different vegetables, and the photos help to figure out such things as which green is which. The recipes are simple, based as they are on being made from the best and freshest produce.

This book will inspire you toward a healthy use of vegetables.

Poignant and sublime photography

Brouws is one of my favorite contemporary photograper and this book proves why. HIGHWAY admirably displays his subtle use of color, elegant compositional eye, and an underlying elegiac tone which he captures, often depicting an American Dream gone awry. Many of the photos seem infused with a Hopper-esque quality; many Springsteen tunes come to mind as well. The inclusion of FSA photographs from the 1930s, and the well-wriiten essays by Polster and Patton, make for a compelling product. This book is a classic and highly recommended.

Although the book does have a few nice photographs in it and the book does, in fact, catch the "American Dream gone awry," I was disappointed with the book as a whole. This is not to say that it is a bad book. The problem I had was that even though the book is 10.8" x 9.8" many of the pictures are very small. Being a member of the visual generation this book failed to satisfy me with much optical gratification. I would have preferred a book with large images that would grab my attention and bring me back to the memories of days gone by.

a mundane revelation...best on the lot

Brouws seems to have acquired a photographer's eye that can look behind and around and through the grime and the dust of the highway's edge, and find an unheralded harmony in the play of concrete, neon, and metal. Looking at the photographs one can recognise what was always there, but always overlooked. These are the backdrops to our highway dreams, and so it makes good sense to see these without putting people into the foreground. The essays are cogent and work well as an introduction to the photos. Buy the book, and you'll be seeing the highway in a different light from then on.

I purchased this book to teach myself GIS, because the Graduate course I was taking did not explain GIS at all. The Book we used, Introduction to GIS by Keith C. Clarke was an old edition, and was written for elementary schoolers, not for a graduate level. The information was not good and my professor was terrible. This book saved me time and stress levels.

I got this book as a "bargain" book at another big name book seller (bn) for about [cheap]. I'm glad I did. Unfortunately, I have yet to use any of the ideas in it, but I have to wait until I get a bigger yard! The book's set up is nice, spiral bound w/fold out pages, great illustrations. The author makes it look so effortless. The instructions that I have read are very thorough, right down to the supplies needed. Over all a nice set up.

I love this little gem!
This succinct guide contains 20 first class photographed and illustrated projects. Often garden "project" books suffer an utter lack of grace and refinement to the extent of becoming downright gauche. The ideas herein are delightfully decorative and infinitely tasteful.

As an artist and former art director, I respect the quality of illustration, handy layout design, and talented use of resources.

Mr. Bird offered a practical construction idea for cages that provide protection from birds and squirrels. He has a project for fruit trees in pots. A pear "tunnel" - a pergola, or archway covered with pears as a romantic garden feature.

He offers ideas on a charming bean arbor, decorative beds and borders, ways to use PVC pipe in large planters to disburse irrigation water more efficiently; and he offers plans for a very attractive double-groined trellis structure constructed with simple re-bar and installed as an apple arch.

Richard Bird has an innovative "step-over apple hedge" suitable for smaller gardens that is jaw-droppingly elegant. It essentially is an espaliered apple tree with just one horizontal tier that like most of his projects; it is not difficult - but it does require patience, and rewards they that wait.

For a pittance, this is a real jewel of a garden book. I am impressed.

KITCHEN GARDEN by Richard Bird is one of the many books I've acquired about growing comestibles outside the back door. When purchasing a book, I look for well presented, novel, and useful ideas. KG was printed in China and contains less than perfect but colorful and informative photos, and plenty of useful information. The book includes sections on: 1) vegetable (potager, salad bed), fruit (strawberry bed), and herb plots (taste of Asia); 2) container-grown fruit and vegetables for rooftops and patios; 3) climbing fruit and vegetables (bean arbors and pear tunnels); and 4) decorative beds and borders (apple border, herb border).

Each section includes a photo of a project, such as a potager, printed on a foldout page. Associated with each foldout page is a diagram of the project and other pertinent information including illustrations of various tasks required to execute the project, tool lists, plant lists, and other items. Although some of the presentations require more space than others, even folks living in townhouses with a space no larger than a deck or patio can benefit from the ideas offered in this book.

One of my favorites sections is the `Patio container garden.' You might ask what could anyone say about container gardening that has not already been said, but the answer is plenty. For example, Bird shows you how to secure your recently planted container so that birds and animals don't disturb the contents. Having watched a squirrel roll around one of my containers yesterday (apparently playing, there was nothing in it but soil), I can attest to the random, senseless, and wanton destruction of run-amuck wildlife. Bird also shows in his patio container section how to irrigate a strawberry jar. In all the years I've reviewed books and plant catalogues, I have never seen his novel approach depicted.

If you're looking for a cookbook approach to kitchen gardening, as opposed to an encyclopedia of possibilities where you supply the creative combinations, Bird's book of clearly described and carefully planned projects is a good place to begin. For intermediate gardeners.
