Master Tung's Western Chamber Romance is a lovely example of the vernacular story in traditional Chinese Literature. Written in stunning verse interspersed with prose, the story chronicles the seemingly ill-fated love affair of the scholar Chang and his love, Ying-Ying. The pair endure many of the same hardships as modern couples: miscommunication, forbidding mothers, and family influence among them. In addition to the lovers' travails, the story includes intrigue, an attempted attack by rebels, and deception, all told lilting verse and clever prose. The characters are well rounded for an older piece of Chinese literature, and story flows easily. Despite being several hundred years old, this piece from the 12th century has endured time and is still a lively, interesting and relatable story today.

This book was written by my mother when she was 14, I think. It started out as a school report and ended up at the publisher's. It is about a horse,(Meredith), owned by a knight, who was afraid of everything. One day an old woman gave him a pouch that would give him courage. Everything went wonderfully, fighting dragons and rescuing princesses, until one day the pouch disappeared...
Sure, I may be biased, but it is a very cute and pleasant story, and whimsically illustrated. I grew up loving it, as have many other children.

I found this book to be a compilation of great words put together with beauty, compassion, wit and above all, love.

The poems are easy to read, wonderfully written and delightful to peruse at any time.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a bit of a fantasy escape into an intelligent mind and deep, profound heart.

A Journey through Complexities

I enjoyed this book very much. It is an academic writing that gives deep exploration of the existing literature on the subject under study and provides fascinating insight into the complexities of migrations and migrants. It is also a literary work that is written in poetic style and fraught with endless philosophical thoughts.
Iain Chambers in this book successfully challenges the belief that we are living in a unitary world with linear history and homogenous culture. Reading this book is a journey that leads us through the diversities surrounding and defining us. Along the journey, we will be given many interesting perspectives to look at the fact that we have increasingly realized - we are living between worlds and cultures that are shaped by as well as shaping different migrants, languages, and histories.

Outstanding biography of jazz giant

A well-written and unbiased account of Miles Davis, the controversial jazz superstar. Davis stayed at the forefront of his art for so long that his biography reads like a history of jazz from bebop to fusion. A thoroughly annotated discography is woven through the text. Eric Nisenson, author of another book on Davis, says that Milestones is not just the best book on the subject, but perhaps the best biography of a jazz musician *ever*.

Window into a forgotten past

Dorothea Chambers Blaisdell, born in 1896, grew up in southeastern Turkey, daughter of a pioneer Congregational misionary couple. She left this manuscript when she died in 1985. Her son and daughter have now had it published. The world of Christian missions has changed dramatically since the early 20th Century. Its leisurely pace, with delightful summers in the mountains, is long gone. Dorothea's story is very personal, and in that is its delight. She tells relatively little of her father's work, but enough to know that he was a powerful man of faith.
One of the books great values is the heart-wrenching story of the persecution of the Armenians with which Nesbitt Chambers, her father, worked. That painful period of history is usually forgotten. Dorothea brings it to life.
Her story ends as a young adult. After being educated in America, she went back to Turkey as a YWCA worker, again to witness social disruption. Her story is sub-titled "Witness to the Fall of the Ottoman Empire." I highly recommend this very personal story of that tumultuous time in history.

Took his Corporate Finance Class

I had Professor Chambers last semester for Corporate Finance and we used this new edition of the book. I enjoyed it very much because he always explained every concept like it was part of a story and made it relevant to everyday things. He does an excellent job of explaining complex topics such as simple Options contracts.

Another important part of the book he stressed in class was the Capital Asset Pricing Model which he goes into much detail about.

An interesting thing I learned from him and this book was what a modern corporation actually consists of. A corporation is not about management or products, but exists as pieces of paper being traded for the benefit of the owners (shareholders). This is interesting because he goes into detail about a number of topics such as mergers, acquisitions, bankruptcy, etc. Maybe a little advanced for beginners but essential if Finance is of any interest.

He made the problems very interesting too because he related them to sports teams and celebrities.

This book is a one-stop information shop on West African Igbo culture in both Africa and America during the Middle Passage period. It explains, in great detail, Igbo West African culture and how those traditions were transplanted to and adopted in America. I loved the references to first person Igbo accounts that were coupled with archaeological findings. It is well written, easy to understand and has been extensively researched. It's worth the price.
