A fine book, but not for novices

This book is mainly a (large) collection of omelette recipes. I was hoping it would go into detail about exactly how to make an omelette, what kind of equipment to use. But it only has 2 pages that briefly touch on how to make one.

Bottom line is, if you're still trying to learn how to make the perfect omelette, look elsewhere.

I was introduced to Chamberlain thanks to the movie Gettysburg and later Gods and Generals, which made me go read the books by the two Sharaa's. Which in turn made me decide to see if he was a real person or not. When I discovered that he had existed I wanted to find anything and everything that I could find about him. Well this was the first.

I knew he was highly educated, but I didn't realize just how highly his education it was until I started reading. I came across words that I had to go look up. And he has areas where he'll throw in Latin with no translation provided, then again I don't think he ever intended to publish this.

This book is a great insight into what he went through from about the Battle of the White Oak Road on to the Disbandment of the Armies. He tends to go into the fine details of the battles with approximation of battle losses for both sides. He will also take a very highly negative view of General Sheridan and idolize General Warren, who would be removed from command of the Fifth Corps to which he was attached.

Over all I found it to be a great book and worthy for any Historian or History Buffs bookshelf.

It has some very good recipes, ranging from easy for a beginner to eastern european cooking to more complicated dishes that can please even the pickiest of palets. The varietys of foods from breads and soups to desserts and main courses were delightful. Other than being a thin paperback I was overall impressed and have actually mentioned it to many friends and associates.

How do you make an awful movie into a very funny book? The lesson here is to stay true to the original but take it from a really warped perspective. I laughed on nearly every page. And had even more fun watching the movie again (a DVD is included). A bizarre concept for a book, but really, really well done.

The OC is is one of those shows that when you try to tell your friends how smart it is, they give you the kind of look that suggests you're trying to write a thesis paper on social dynamics using the Smurfs as a case study (clearly Gargamel's desire to eat the Smurfs defines him as a mass consumer, a binary opposite to the self-sustained community that is Papa Smurf's ideal...). I love that the show "gets" itself, and I love that the author here gets the show. This book is as smart and loaded with references as Seth Cohen on Jolt cola - and tracing the OC's teen-drama roots was just plain brilliant.

Prepare for a younger sibling

Jim is a young boy who suddenly finds himself with a younger sister. His older sister is helping to take care of her but Jim is not pleased.

No one asked Jim if he wanted a new sister. Jim is lonely as everyone is too busy with the new baby. But when night falls, Jim has a chance to tell the crying baby what is what. But in the moonlight, little Jane smiles at Jim and the two become fast friends.

This is one of a number of "new baby" books our daughter read before she had a little brother. She still enjoys it even a year after his birth.

A fun story with fun lines and rhymes that deals with a real issue older children have to deal with when a new brother or sister arrives.

Great Miscarriage Of Justice

I read this book a few years ago and found it fascinating. Although it is a long book I found it to be easy to read and fairly well written.A young baby goes missing, carried off into the night by a dingo, never to be seen again. The parents are charged with her murder but the evidence is at best, absurd and the attitude of Australia at this time is outrageous! This book is a first hand version of what happened as it is written by the mother accused of killing her baby. She tells this story with sadness at the cicumstances her family found themselves in. The police and research work for this case was a total shambles and Lindy Chamberlain and family suffered greatly because of this.Even as you read this book you know yourself that something is wrong with the way things seem to be going.Lies, rumours, pettiness and hatred are directed at this family but no motive or reason is given why this woman should feel the need to kill her child. A sad tale of a family whose lives are ruined by the verdict decided long before the case was ever brought to trial.
