I love this book, an early David Carter work. The rhymes are really wonderful (see below) and the pop-ups are adorable too. They are clearly David Carter creatures, but these are all different pasta noodles instead of bugs. I'm sad this is out of print- they should bring it back!

Here are a few excerpts from my memory:
Ladies and gentlemen, guess what we've got?
A feast like no others- a show in a pot
Get ready, get set- now lift up the top!
-------------
Gertie Gemelli will flutter and flirt
and hula up high in a green noodle skirt.
---------
Stan Manacotti that great muscle man,
eats ravioli right out of a can.
------------
Barron von ziti- that fire eating clown
takes flaming fusilli and gobbles it down!
------------
Lena the limber linguine queen
will crank herself out of a pasta machine!

Eddie tubetti- he juggles spaghetti
he says when it sticks to the ceiling- it's ready

Ollie and twin sister Mollie farfalle
bring down the house with a sparkling finale

Novia Scotia Design Patterns
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 11 total.

Novia Scotia quilt designs often are hung (as a diamond, or herringbone shape) versus the early American tradition of sqares. So, the patterns listed, are often on this angle.

Patterns include: Nine-patch quilts, square and triangle variations, Windmill "hung" with herringbone, basket quilt, t-square quilt, jacob's ladder quilt, snowball quilt, whirligig quilt, giant tulip quilt (with appliqued stems), and rose of sharon wreath.

The full-size pattern pieces are included, with 1/4" seam allowance included (my preference).

I love how my grandkids get to see exactly what each number means, i.e. 3 = 3 items. Because they get to place the exact number of items that go with each number. This book is excellent for young children.

Cool Book (even if you're not a basketball lover).
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2000-09-20
This book is awesome. It talks about the past and present of a game they call "basketball." And, if you're a basketball lover, or you like watching basketball on TV, this is the book for you. It has directories of the front-office (like the GM) of each team and it has schedules of every game of every team. This is an awesome book, but if you just "hate" basketball, just get a biography of some famous basketball player and read it. You don't have to do whatever I say, but it works. I tried it on my sister. She hates basketball and I gave her a biography and she loved it. I also tried it on a couple of my friends. It works on them too. I also wouldn't get the book if you hate numbers. There are a lot of numbers in this book. Thanks for reading my review on a great "if your really bored" book!

I love this book and all books by this author. She is very old fashioned and if you like any books by Charlotte Bronte you will love this author. This story is about a young lady who is about to marry a rich man but does not like to do all he says. A man who is kinda a clergy man tries to show her that she has a need fotr God and take His helmet for protection.

A Pragmatic and Useful Manual of Judo Newaza
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-09
Straight to the point and informative, the book: 'OLYMPIC JUDO: Ground Work Techniques' (c. 1986) by Neil Adams & Cyril Carter, is a useful compilation of eight proven newaza techniques used by Neil Adams, a 1981 World Judo Champion, in 95 pages with clear black & white photographs.

'OLYMPIC JUDO: Ground Work Techniques' demonstrated entry methods into matwork, such as tai-otoshi into juji-gatame (p. 18); or Seoi-nage into Sode Goruma [sic] jime (p. 78). The book also demonstrated on page twelve the 'Rolling juji-gatame' the variation (kazure) on juji-gatame which the author used to win his 1981 World Championship.

Clearly demonstrating eight techniques with several variations and combinations from tachi-waza in a professional and objective manner, 'OLYMPIC JUDO: Ground Work Techniques' is an unusually instructive manual on matwork by a gifted Newaza practitioner. Chapter Seven, Variations on strangles, is particularly worth studying; and this insightful manual also contained two full chapters on Sankaku-jime and its variations.

World Judo Champion and author, Neil Adams, in his book: 'OLYMPIC JUDO: Ground Work Techniques' has produced a very good informative manual on Judo matwork and shared detailed descriptions of eight of his Tokui Waza which helped him become a successful Judo competitor. As a good Newaza companion to this work, please read: FIGHTING JUDO (c. 1985) by Katsuhiko Kashiwazaki, for further knowledge on the effectiveness of Judo matwork.

Great book on Seoul, Korea's Chosun Hotel
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-30
The book describes the history of the great Chosun Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. As the author stated in the book, "For five hundred years Seoul has been the center of Korea, its arts, culture and political machinations. For the last seventy, two buildings in the same site have witnessed the comings and goings of more of the famous and notorious than any other - the Chosun and the Chosun Hotel (now The Westin Chosun)." The book has been written by the renown Asian scholar Dr. Covell who has written extensively on the culture and arts of Korea and Japan. This is a great read for anyone interested in the history of Korea and in the hotel industry.

Robert Carter's book is of American History
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 3 total.

This book represents the viewpoints of a "policing" time for the United States of the North. Without some form of correctiveness, lawlessness and savageness would have ruled the day and Texas would not be a part of the nation today.
It is exciting, horrifying, glorifying, and it is sad at times.
This book must be pulled from the graveyard of literature for open forums to discuss the past. Without actual accounts of yesterday protrayed today, everyone will be able to re-write history to match their own personal or social, economical, and political viewpoints instead. An American treasure is being lost to the dusts of time...James L. Brown

Tremendous Breath of Fresh Air - Fantastic!
Helpful Votes: 28 out of 29 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-16
I read a lot of lesbian fiction. Many of the books I've read, even those written by seasoned authors, can't hold a candle to this one. Well-edited and eloquently written, Wings is a phenomenal first book and I can't wait for more.

Stacie Gillette is a newspaper reporter who thinks she's the cat's meow. She doesn't take her job seriously because she thinks it's beneath her. She sleeps with whomever she pleases, but won't let herself fall in love. She takes her best friend for granted, but doesn't realize it until it's too late. A series of unfortunate (yet avoidable) events lead to the loss of her job, her best friend, and her self-respect. Befriended by Cheryl Wright (an author who had denied Stacie an interview) and Estelle Vargas (editor of a local free paper), Stacie begins to understand she's not the center of the universe.

At 263 pages, this book is a real bargain. Even with its length, I finished it in one night (last night) and it stuck with me all day today. These characters have depth, they have personalities, and they deal with real-life issues. The author did a masterful job keeping this reader in suspense -- I couldn't tell until about 2/3 through who would finally capture Stacie's heart. I couldn't piece together the ending until I was almost there.

I can't say enough about the quality of this author's work. Three cheers for a tremendous new addition to the world of lesbian fiction!
