Ron's spiritual strength is a beacon of light, showing the way through the darkness to the Son. I've known Ron for over 12 years and have gone to him several times seeking his strength, wisdom and friendship. This book is a source of guidance and a useful tool for anyone during their spiritual walk with God in life. After reading the first few pages, I started looking at my life with God and what I was missing....

This book was a gift to me by my cousin, Margaret Maney on October 5, 1991. I found that not only my husband's family can be traced back to Carter County as one of the first permanent white settlers of Tennessee, but I can also. "About the time that William Been settled in the valley, probably a little earlier or a little later, Julius Dugger (my ancester)settled where the town of Butler is now located." The book is full of historical information and photographs. It has been a great resource for searching my geneology. Maybe you can find someone you are related to, also.

This is an obscure book long out of print which chronicles the history of American Military music from the Revolution up to World War II. It is a very good resource book for band and field music which I was fortunate to find a copy in the University of Connecticut Music Library.

Those who delight in the Lord Jesus Christ and a salvation by grace through faith alone will relish this incredibly thorough book (containing five volumes in one). d'Aubigne's style and his evident affection for his subject are truly compelling. It is as much a book on Theology as it is history, but at over 800 pages, there is room for the weaving together of both. d'Aubigne gives quite extensive quotations from both sides of the Reformation, but if you are of the Catholic persuasion, you'd better have thick skin. Get this book if you want to review the mighty dealings of God in history affecting your freedoms today.

Kurt shows us so much of the culture, and what it takes to survive - completely independantly of storeshed of cash! His brilliant humor is exemplified throughout.

I know Kurt personally. I can't believe he hung up his drumming / music career hopes to travel in this manner (he's quite an excellent multi-instrumentalist as well)! We're very happy he did, though.

This is truly a gem - a short, yet very interesting read! I dare you to put the book down once begun!

One of Australia's greatest living artists, Valamanesh was born in Iran and arrived in Australia in the mid 1970s. Since then he has forged a unique career, all the time maintaining his aesthetic simplicity and poetic vision in his paintings, collages, arte povera sculptures and installations and his land and public art.

This book features some of his best work, with superb colour reproductions. Although small in size, it is dense in content, with Paul Carter's usually incisive and imaginative prose engaging deeply with the artist's cultural position and creative method.

If you can pick up a copy, it is worth getting the Art Gallery of South Australia survey catalogue as well, which features more of his public art works from around the country and the globe and updates his art produced in the interim years.

THE source for information on Slavery in Delaware
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-02
Patience Essah's book is a landmark work on a seldom-studied area of American history: the question of slavery in Delaware. While books on slavery in larger states abound, and books on slavery nation-wide are myriad, neither truly addresses this issue in the First State, Delaware. What makes the subject so important, and what Essah illustrates so well, is that slavery in Delaware is slavery at the margin. Just south of the Mason-Dixon line, Delaware seemed more often to be drawn to Philadelphia than Baltimore or Richmond. As a state torn between these two powerful poles of attraction, Delaware featured the liveliest debate over slavery of any state in the Union. The Quaker and Methodist influences coupled with soil depletion served to make the preservation of slavery in Delaware precarious, and the political climate surrounding the peculiar institution, galvanic. Essah adequately portrays the struggle for emancipation in Delaware and gets to the heart of the anti-slavery struggle. The only criticism one could make is that she does not address the organization and methods of the pro-slavery forces as well as she does for the anti-slavery groups. A closer look at that side of the issue would lend greater understanding to the epic struggle between the forces of slavery and freedom in Delaware. All in all, a good book, and the best one available on the subject.

This is an extraordinary work of scholarship, quite in a league of its own in this field. Carter is sharp, informed and passionate. Her writing on the German woman in film is particularly insightful. Read.
