The title of this dictionary implies that it is mainly concerned with soil and environmental science, but it covers a broader range of disciplines, including physical geography, geology, and meteorology. Readers needing brief but informative definitions will find it very helpful! Highly recommended for all libraries and all levels of users!

What a joy to read! I found myself nodding my head "Yes!" over and over again as I absorbed this book. Cheryl has written a warm, thoughtful and easy-to-understand book about subjects that can easily get confusing for most of us. It is easy to sense that she writes Soul Speak from her own experience, and directly from her heart. She says that there are several areas to be addressed if we want to be able to easily and naturally tap into our latent potentials as physical and spiritual Beings. These include examining our personal attitude, circumstances, history, health, and beliefs. Cheryl writes about each of them in a way that I find clear, direct and profound. She shows that learning to live in accord with Nature and Spirit is actually very simple and easy. She brings it all together with her personal story of her own awakening, demonstrating what is possible for every one of us. And that is the biggest message here - that the wonderful bliss, peace and contentment of living Soulfully is right here in front of us..... available right now.

An ordained minister, Animal Communicator, Medical Intuitive, conscious channeller, and Reiki II Practitioner, Cheryl Stoycoff draws upon her psychic abilities and experiences to share a kind of "blueprint" for spiritual transformation and understanding that will enable readers to access their own inner guidance, unlock intuitive abilities, understand and accept psychic abilities as a natural part of their humanity, tapping into the Divine wisdom of the soul and bringing that wisdom into every part of daily life. Soul Speak: Opening To Divine Guidance is a superb contribution to the growing library of New Age spirituality and metaphysical studies.

A theme in my studying this year has been, "How do we bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth?" Speaking of Faith is a testimony to how our lives do make a difference, here, now, expressing all that God has intented. Reading each person's journey motivates and strengthens my conviction to Bee-Courageous, Bee-Hold Your Purpose (from Barbara Dwyer's chapter). Reading Rev. Desiree Carter's story affirmed that Love, Faith, Believing, culminate into a wonderfully purposeful life right here on Earth. The stories continue and you can pick one a day, or sit down and take it in all at once. I'm using it as part of my devotional time and each day is a new insight as to how "on Earth as it is in Heaven" is being accomplished. I'm grateful to all who contributed to this wonderful book. Bless you.

Many people struggle to find a way to integrate their faith in their daily lives. Many of those same people even question if it is possible to live their faith in today's world. They also question the purpose of their life, why they're here and what, if anything, can one person do to affect mankind for the better.
To help people find the answers to these questions, David E. Wright, president of the International Speakers Network, conducted interviews with fourteen outstanding leaders of different faiths. From Jana Alcorn, a humanitarian and founder of Dream Builders Network and Hayley's House, an organization that cares for orphaned and abandoned children in Tanzania to Lonna Vopat, the founder of In His Grace Ministries and host of television talk show, Between Friends, each person answers probing questions about their faith, the trials and triumphs in their lives and how their deeply held faith helped them endure both the failures and the triumphs.
The following are short summaries of some of the interviews.
Nita Scoggan, who held weekly prayer sessions in the White House from 1984 through 1998, relates tales of redemption after cutting up and burning a kitchen witch at a friend's house and exorcising demons from a young woman who was both a witch and a vampire.
Victoria McArthur talks about growing up in a strict Baptist family with a mother who, unknown to anyone, was bipolar and suffered from schizophrenia. Victoria was not allowed to show any emotion in front of her parents, nor did she experience any of the small wonderful everyday things such as being tucked up in bed at night with a kiss. Pushed into a marriage at seventeen, Victoria soon divorced her first husband and continued on with her life.
Dave Dravecky, former major-league pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, talks about the cancer that ended his career when his arm had to be amputated to save his life and how his faith got him through this tough time. His faith was so inspiring to people facing similar and even worse changes in their lives that he founded the organization Outreach of Hope in 1991 that offers faith and encouragement to people battling cancer and other illnesses and even people who just need someone to talk to and, with God's help, give them the strength and courage to continue on their life's path.
"Speaking of Faith" is a wonderful book; you can feel each person's commitment to God on every page.

I've been using this simple key since I was a college student in Minnesota over forty years ago. Although I now own several large comprehensive keys, this is the first key I try, even though it may not be spring and I now live in Connecticut. It will usually send me quite easily at least to a family, probably to a genus, getting me through what might be the most annoying portion of my larger keys.

When the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan went into effect during the Clinton administration, Florida's great grassy wilderness garnered a host of national attention -- and has since become a breeding ground for environmental dispute. What does it take to "save" a forest? How can it be preserved?
Enter W. Hodding Carter. For an Outside magazine feature he's agreed to paddle the ninety-nine-mile waterway in Everglades National Park to examine the landscape from all angles -- physical, political, cultural, and very personal -- and get to the rock-bottom heart of the story. Stolen Water is the outgrowth of Carter's journey.
Through investigative research, eyewitness accounts, and interviews with key players in the conservation controversy, Carter offers a rare portrait of a national treasure. Utterly important, and at times downright hilarious, Stolen Water is a classic American adventure tale, and an environmental parable for our time.

Hodding Carter loves the Everglades and Stolen Water: Saving the Everglades from Its Friends, Foes, and Florida reflects this affection as much as it reflects arguments on both sides covering the management and utilization of the wilderness. From restoration plans for the Everglades to author Carter's own quest through the region to consider both its history and future, Stolen Water provides some hard-hitting facts about the real friends and foes of the area.

I have been taking stacks of books out of the library for my daughter, but I usually take most of them back after a few days. It is so hard to find a book that really engages toddlers. This book is different. She asks for it every day, several times a day, so I decided that we had to buy it. But I was worried that it would be out of print. Thank goodness I found it. About the worries of the professional reviewers above--I disagree with their comments about the lack of a page-turning experience for toddlers. The individual stories and activites may be condensed onto a page or two, but my daughter enjoys leafing around to find her favorites. It is good for strengthening her memory, because she tries to remember where "Maizy Mouse" or "Oops-a-Daisy" is located in the book. Also, it is not too thick for a toddler to navigate. The reviewers also said that the pages are too busy. This is only true for a few stories, and parents can point to where the child is to look. Once children get used to a story's progression on the page, they can follow it themselves. Another plus is the variety of levels in the book. As my daughter grows, she keeps finding new things she can do and understand in it. It's very educational and fun. I feel lucky to have found it.
Of all her books, THIS is the one she always wants!

My 1-1/2 old granddaughter has many books - and she is often to be seen looking at books by herself, not to speak of the times she requests an adult to sit with her. This is the book that she most often wants and is the book we'll have to replace as it's the most worn. A great collection of "nursery" poetry and pictures have a lot of appeal for the young.

I have read many of Rebecca Winters books and Strangers When We Meet happens to be one of her best, if not the best. It is a story of a woman who falls in love after her husband is presumed dead during Desert Shield. It takes her two years to finally accept Zach's proposal only to find out a few hours later that her husband, Nick was a POW and is now alive and coming home. This book is a real tear jerker, one I couldn't put down. This book could easily be a made into a made for TV movie. If you are a fan of Rebecca Winters this book is a must; if you aren't, you will be after reading this book.

I taught "They Knew How to Pray" to my women's Bible study group at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. The women loved it and found in each chapter great comfort and inspiration to pray. I especially liked the final chapter, "Your Prayer Life," because it addressed my needs the best. But I also loved the chapter on the prayer life of Samuel, which is called, "Practice a Ministry of Prayer." I highly recommend this book to a small or large group Bible study, or even to someone who wants to use it for personal daily devotion.
