This is our 5th David Carter "BUGS" pop-up book. My son loves these pop-up books since he was 6 months old (now 15 months)
and wants them all the time. They are evan better than "The Wheels on the Bus" book, but more compact. Not only are these
books alot of fun for both parent and child but educational as well. We have this particular one for our travel bag and
they are always a special treat, especially because our son can hold it in his little hands. They are nicely put together
and brightly colored. You will not be disappointed I guarantee!

The World of Design in One Inspiration-Filled Book

Creativity 33 is an excellent guide for anyone looking for a concise overview of contemporary design practices in a variety
of media.
As is often true with books edited by David Carter, the quality of the choices is only matched by their presentation on the page. Each oversize page contains three to eight reproductions of various types of print projects as well as online examples. Illustrations are large enough to teach meaningful lessons.
Samples are grouped by category. Printing and production values are high. The tinest details clearly emerge.
Thumbing through the book, one of my first impressions is the power that comes from the simplicity of the designs and the designer's use of color.
This book would make a great "sample book" for internal training of a design studios' staff, as well as a framework for a semester-long commercial graphic design course or workshop.

Criminal Justice Technology for the 21st Century. A book that was used as principle text for a graduate class at International
College. It should be required reading for all senior staff, Sheriff's, Chief's, and Police Officer Standards administrators.
Most justice agencies are not up to speed or close to industry standards in the way they compile and distribute meaningful
information. The text gives good examples and explains in detail successful projects that we can all benefit from. Highly
recommended. Lt. Gary L. Hoffman, Dir. of Training, Education and Spl. Projects Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, Punta Gorda,

I have not yet completed this little book which I received from a very perceptive friend! There are many kind of crooks from
physical disabilities in ourself to circumstances that appear out of no where in our life causing great sorrow. This book
beautifully declares the providence and sovereignty of God and shows us how and why we must accept what comes from His Hand,
give praise and gratitude and love to a great and holy God for all that enters our life! Many biblical examples are given
with the verses which clearly validate this really helpful book! This is a great book for yourself or for a friend who is
going through a really difficult time in their life!

What Maddie Hatfield learned from finding the perfect mate: Rule #1: Never date a coworker, just because Derek Newman is
every woman's fantasy, that doesn't mean he's husband material. Rule #2: After a string of dating disasters, avoid turning
to your coworker for comfort, you might find there's more to Derek than his baby blues. Rule #3: Don't fall in love with
your coworker, no matter how good it feels to be in Derek's arms. Rule #4: If rule 1-3 fail, refer to Planning the Perfect
Wedding.

David Remfry: Dancers

David Remfry's artistic career spans more than 30 years. A figurative painter born and trained in England, and now living
in New York, Remfry has a long-established reputation as a draftsman and watercolorist, having had over 50 solo exhibitions
in Europe and America. The most recent was curated by Alanna Heiss at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York City, a
Museum of Mordern Art affiliate.
Remfry works almost exclusively in watercolor, but not in the conventional way of small, polite landscapes. His watercolors are large; some single-figure pieces are practically life-size, and his subjects are decidedly urban.
This book, published on the occasion of an international touring exhibition originated by the Boca Raton Museum of Art, serves as a biographical and critical study of the work, with esays by Edward Lucie-Smith, Dore Ashton and Carter Ratcliff, and provides a definitive mid-career survey of an increasingly important and original figure in British and American Art.
The exhibition present a body of work begun in 1985 that Remfry refers to as the Dancers. It numbers over 80 paintings and drawings, most of which have not been exhibited before.

A Look at Criminal Justice in Late Wilhelmine Berlin
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.

Review Date: 2005-09-19
I found this to be just an extremely interesting and valuable book on a topic that has received relatively little attention
in this country. While there has been much speculation on the issue of whether the legal positivism of the late 19th and
early 20th centuries facilitated the Nazi co-opting of law, there have been few if any empirical studies in English of how
criminal justice operated in Wilhelmine Germany, and Berlin in particular. The focus here is on the culture of the criminal
courtroom, and how such influences as interest groups, an aggressive press, juries, the changing role of defense counsel,
public opinion, the use of experts, and sociological theories of crime all impacted on the process.
The book is very well structured to lead the reader through vauable background before getting to the heart of the analysis. Hence, such topics as the "free law movement", the German criminal code, the role of the judge, the three stages of a German criminal trial, the power of prosecutors, the quality of defense counsel, and the role of the new mass press are all discussed. One of the most interesting facets of the book (at least to me as a defense counsel) is how tame and even passive the few defense counsel were initially. Professional norms, backed up by the "Honor Courts" ensured that vigorous criminal defense was foreclosed, although this was to change in the early 20th century. This resulted in a particular disability for defendants, since false confessions were so prominent a feature of proceedings at this point.
But, as the author so cogently explains, much was to change in the period immediately prior to Weimar. More use of documents at trial became the norm; police procedures were reformed; mental disability as a defense was developed; expert witnesses began to limit the power of prosecutors, and a more vigorous defense bar emerged. The book examines several trials in detail affording a valuable empirical perspective on the changes infilitrating the criminal trial process.
Professor Hett's research is prodigious, and the extensive notes are extremely useful, though most sources are in German. His command of the material is superb, and, when coupled with his well-constructed discussion, this makes for an extremely valuable resource. An absolutely indispenable source for anyone, beginner or advanced student, interested in this fascinating topic.
